Welsh Owls Photography Workshop

For spring 2015, we are introducing a new workshop based exclusively on the owls that we have available to us at the venue that we use in Mid-Wales.

The NaturesLens Welsh Owls Photography Workshop is timed to, hopefully, allow the photography of the owls in bluebell woods. Accompanied by a dedicated falconer, this is a fantastic opportunity for photographers of all levels of ability to get up close & personal with some amazing & charismatic owls both perched & in flight.

Our highly experienced falconer who is always present, may even be able to accommodate special requests. We have access to plenty of beautiful backgrounds, natural perches, derelict buildings, fields, fencing and more to ensure a good variety of shots.

There will be a mix of flying & static shots – we will endeavour to make use of the following species Tawny Owl, Little Owl, Barn Owl, Long Eared Owl & a brief session with the Short Eared Owl, plus at the end of the day we will have allowed time for photography of the Great Grey Owl – for this magnificent bird, you will have the opportunity for both perched & in-flight shots.

The photography sessions will take place in a variety of locations, but should include derelict farm buildings, bluebell woodlands, old moss covered trees, fencing & farm gates covered with lichen, & usage of some props that we will place amongst cow parsley – these include fence posts & old rusted farm wheels.

You will be able to get incredibly close to most of these charismatic owls for some eye level frame filling portraits with natural backgrounds. But you are not limited to portrait shots alone, birds in their natural environment shots are also a key part of the workshop. Our falconer will do his best to hide the jesses to make the shots look as natural as possible.

We will meet at 9.30am, the Welsh Owls Photography Workshop will start at 10am & run through until 1pm, when we will take a quick lunch to avoid the harsh midday to early afternoon light. The session will resume at 2pm until 6pm to get some nice light.

All photos on this page were taken by NaturesLens & are representative of the opportunities available should you choose to join us on this workshop.

British Owl Photography in Evening Light

For those who would like to cram in as much photography as possible over the weekend, NaturesLens would like to invite you to join us for a few hours of Owl Photography in the late afternoon/early evening of the Saturday. This will be an intensive 2 – 2 ½ hour session with an indigenous British Owl in a variety of locations – this will either be a Long Eared Owl or Little Owl. The cost of this session is £80 per person. If you are interested in participating in our British Owl photography in evening light, please register your interest on our events page.

Non-photographic Spectators

We can accommodate a maximum of two spectators at the Welsh Owls Photography Workshop – they must be accompanying a paying photographer & will be charged at £60 per person
