During early March 2018, David attended our Golden Eagles of the Swedish Winter photography holiday. We chose this time of year to visit Sweden because the Eagles are most active in cold weather. Also, Northern Sweden in winter is impressive with the clean snow providing a distinctive quality to the images.
As you can see from David’s photographs, he was blessed with impressive light & some strong eagle activity. Just look at the catchlight in the eagle’s eyes & the gorgeous golden tones in the feathers.

Sunrise also provided some gorgeous colours for some strong landscape photography. I always think that snow makes everything look prettier & the pink sky coupled with snow on the branches in the image below reminds me of a winter wonderland.

The Golden Eagles were the target species for our tour but the forest was full of wildlife such as siskins, magpies & red foxes. David captured this lovely moment of a pair of siskins throwing puffs of snow into the air as they squabbled. I also love his image of the fox staring at a magpie which is blissfully unaware of its presence.

One of the challenges of snow photography is making sure that the subject is sharp, especially when it is snowing. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has photographed a pin sharp snowflake instead of an in-focus subject!
David said “My trip with NaturesLens to photograph Golden Eagles in Sweden’s winter surpassed all expectations of seeing & photographing these fine birds in their natural wild state. Dan was an excellent guide, the accommodation was good & the eagles superb! We experienced a range of lighting & weather conditions which made the photography all the better. I would certainly book through NaturesLens again & am already contemplating my next trip.”
