10 images showing why you should be photographing the Atlantic Puffins of Fair-Isle in 2023

Robin will once again be leading our Atlantic Puffins of Fair-Isle trip in 2023. Following the rebuild of the Fair-Isle Bird Observatory after the terrible fire that destroyed the previous structure. Over the years, we have seen some fantastic images coming from this trip. One guest, Sunil Gopalan, won the Animal Behaviour category in the British Wildlife Photography Awards with his dramatic photo taken on our 2017 trip.

We are frequently asked why we run trips to Skomer & Fair-Isle to photograph puffins. The answer is quite simple – because each location offers different photographic opportunities & the experiences are entirely different from one another.
The Fair-Isle Bird Observatory will be a fantastic lodge that provides hearty meals at breakfast, lunch & dinner. All the rooms in the Fair-Isle Bird Observatory have en-suites & there are also single rooms available for guests who don’t want to share a room. Some have described this trip as “Skomer but with all your creature comforts!” However, the main advantage this trip has over Skomer is the lack of day-trippers.
Our guests on the previous trips have been blessed with fantastic weather from gorgeous light to rain – yes, rain! The rain gave rise to stunning images being captured against dramatic skies & on another occasion, an incredible pink sky!
2023 will see Robin champing at the bit to show our guests the island, the coastal birds & how to capture some stunning imagery, you can find more details of our offering to photograph the Puffins of Fair-Isle here.
