For photographers looking for the ultimate African wildlife holiday with a difference, look no further than our full board nine-night African Wildlife by Night & Day photography holiday, which takes place in Kenya’s Rift Valley. With direct access to the surrounding wildlife conservancies, Lentorre Lodge, which provides the base for this holiday, is a unique accommodation experience that combines luxury, adventure & a chance to take spectacular photographs of wildlife within the African landscape.
Lentorre Lodge, which we reserve exclusively, is what we consider to be one of the best safari lodges in Africa & offers a luxurious oasis in the heart of the Great Rift Valley, known as the cradle of humankind. Guests can experience the beauty of Kenya‘s diverse landscape, including breathtaking views of hills, mountains, lakes & valleys. From each villa’s private balcony, our guests can enjoy a stunning sunset to the sound of the birds & animals in the area.
Lentorre Lodge also provides binoculars, books, & even a telescope for birders & amateur astronomers to enjoy to add to the safari atmosphere. The beauty of Lentorre Lodge is that it not only couples luxury with incredible photographic opportunities but is also a perfect base for exploring the nearby wildlife conservancies.
An introduction to our ultimate African Wildlife Holiday
Nestled within the heart of the Olkirimatian Conservancy, Lentorre Lodge offers an exclusive oasis of luxury surrounded by the stunning wilderness of the Great Rift Valley. Composed of multiple villas, which combine to provide a maximum capacity of just 16 guests, the private villas range from double or twin bed configurations to family villas.
Each separate, standalone structure still offers the same unadulterated view of the surrounding landscape, including the Shompole Mountain. In each villa, guests will find the added luxuries of their dedicated plunge pool, a powerful shower, & some with a lush bathtub.
Unique Photography Opportunities with African Wildlife
This photography holiday offers a unique & exclusive experience not available anywhere else. Our guests will spend a minimum of four nights in an exceptional sunken hide specially designed for wildlife photography. With air conditioning, soundproofing, professional lighting, & the best glass for photography, this hide is the perfect place to capture extraordinary images of animals in their natural habitat.
The wildlife in this region is unparalleled in East Africa, & visitors have the opportunity to photograph animals such as Leopard, Striped Hyenas & Caracal at the waterhole. The best time to experience the overnight activity is between September & October or February & March; however, the exact times may vary due to local rainfall.
In contrast to other photography holidays, which provide night photography of African wildlife, our holiday offers a unique benefit – the ability to go into the hide every night! For the best experience, we typically split the guests into two groups, letting them visit every other night; however, we are not limited to this & they can come as often as they would like – however, we do not recommend this as it is thoroughly exhausting!
The Photography Hide at Lentorre Lodge
After years of planning & development, the Lentorre Hide opened in September 2020 & is an incredible experience for wildlife photographers! The underground location of the hide on the edge of the waterhole puts visitors at eye level with the animals & allows them to capture their behaviour from a unique perspective, while the animals are oblivious to their presence. The front area of the photography hide has two beds, while behind it is a further room with several additional beds that can be used by overnight guests.
There are a large number of species to be found in the region surrounding the lodge & you may have the opportunity to capture images of striped hyenas & caracals as well as leopards, zebras, giraffes & many other animals. The best time of year to use the hide is during the dry months of September & October & February & March, but this can vary due to rainfall.
In addition to the hide experience, our guests can take twice-daily game safaris when not in the hide, enhancing this unforgettable experience.
Bird Photography within the Olkirimatian Conservancy
The Olkirimatian Conservancy is an excellent haven for avian life, boasting a population of over 350 species of birds, ranging from long-distance migrants to those that inhabit the area year-round.
The two soda lakes, Magadi & Natron, are popular destinations on the migratory path, creating a unique & diverse ecosystem that many species rely upon.
Guest Accommodation at Lentorre Lodge
Lentorre Lodge’s accommodation is nothing short of fabulous; each villa is separate & unfenced, providing an un-spoilt view of the wilderness towards Shompole Mountain; the lodge & villas are built on the foothills of the Nguruman escarpment in the heart of the Olkirimatian Conservancy. Each villa has a plunge pool, & power shower, whilst some have a luxurious bathtub. Our stay is on a full board basis, with the dining experience at Lentorre Lodge being as exceptional & contributing to making this what we consider the best luxury safari in Africa.
