Join David & Pui Hang in Sri Lanka for the new 15-night Sri Lankan Wildlife Photography Safari to capture images of the diverse & varied birds, mammals & marine life of Sri Lanka. Over 60 different species of mammal call this South Asian island home, in addition, Sri Lanka currently contains 183 species of reptiles, 122 species of amphibians, 227 species of birds & the surrounding waters are home to 28 species of Cetaceans.
Sri Lanka is an island paradise lined with amazing golden sandy beaches & turquoise blue waters. The oceans are rich with life, & amazing coral reefs. The deeper waters are home to marine giants such as the Blue Whale, the largest animal to have ever lived. It is a country that boasts a rich natural heritage, with amazing wildlife & biodiversity & incredibly, for an island of its size can boast of iconic megafauna such as leopards, elephants & sloth bears. Sri Lanka is also regarded as a biodiversity hotspot teeming with endemic birds, reptiles, amphibians as well as plant species found nowhere else on earth.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of amazing wildlife of Sri Lanka, in Sri Lanka, during the Wildlife of Sri Lanka photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 15 night/16 day duration on a Full Board, Shared basis & costs £7499  £6749 per participant.

Our Sri Lankan Wildlife Photography Holiday will be of 15 nights/16 days duration in order to see the best of what this incredible country has to offer, from safaris to Yala & Wilpattu for leopards & sloth bears; Udalwe for jungle cats & Asian elephants; boat trips to see the super pods of Spinner Dolphins & also pods of Sperm Whales, Orcas, Short Finned Pilot Whales, Pink Dolphins & other beautiful cetaceans. We’ve even arranged to take a floatplane out to sea to do aerial photography of blue whales!  And if this wasn’t enough, we will also spend one-night photographing sea turtles as they come ashore to lay their eggs.

This photography holiday truly is the ultimate Sri Lankan Wildlife Safari experience!

We spend several days on the West Coast, the first in search of the elusive Indo-Pacific Humpbacked Dolphin, also known as the Pink Dolphin. The following day, we set out early to sea to look for more marine mammals including the massive super pods of Spinner Dolphins. These acrobatic cetaceans are a sight to behold. Further deeper into the ocean, & you will have the opportunity to see pods of Sperm Whales & possibly Orcas, Short Finned Pilot Whales, Risso Dolphins, Brydes Whale & other species.
Over four days in Wilpattu, we will be taking jeep safaris to spot Leopard & Sloth Bear. Other larger animals seen regularly include Asian Elephant, Jackal, Mugger Crocodile, Sambar, Spotted Deer & Buffalo. A variety of raptors such as Crested Serpent, Changeable Hawk & White-Bellied Sea Eagles, Brown Fish Owl can also be seen here along with a large number of water birds & waders. Two of these days are full-day safaris.

Our lodge in Yala is located at a completely different entrance from the main entrance & so it is far less crowded. We will enter the core leopard areas first where most sightings are great with little crowds. Other residents in the park include Sloth Bear, Asian Elephant, Jackal, Sambar, Spotted Deer & Grey Langur. In Yala, we will experience some spectacular game viewing across 6 early mornings & afternoon game drives.

Upon leaving Yala, we drive to the South Coast for a spectacular river cruise where you will be able to photograph giant Saltwater Crocodiles at eye level. These saurian remnants of the prehistoric era can be found in numerous numbers on this riverine ecosystem, from young hatchlings barely a few inches long to giant males who exceed 15 feet!

Whilst the following day sees us up early for a whale watching tour in the deep ocean to look for the Blue Whale, Spinner Dolphins, Bryde’s Whale, Sperm Whale, Orca, Risso Dolphin, Bottlenose Dolphin & Striped Dolphin. Afterwards, we return to dry land & head back to the hotel for a late lunch.

As dusk arrives, we will head to the beach for a nighttime spotting of sea turtles. Five of the world’s seven species of sea turtles have been recorded coming ashore to lay their eggs at the beach we will be visiting. The Green & Olive Ridley Turtles are the most routinely encountered species, while the Hawksbill, Leatherback & Loggerhead Turtles are also seen intermittently.

After seeing the marine life at sea level, the next day sees you boarding a seaplane to fly over the ocean to photograph blue whales from the air. This is the best way to photograph these enormous leviathans! The flights are 45 minutes per round trip on average, & the plane can take 3 people per flight. After the whole group have taken their flights, we will get back on the road & head towards the lowland rainforests.

During our last two days, our naturalist & local tracker will show us the wide variety of endemic flora & fauna to be found in the main forest reserve. 28 of Sri Lanka’s 34 endemic species may be found here, including the recently discovered Serendib Scops Owl & other rarities such as the Sri Lanka Spurfowl, Chesnut-backed Owlet & White-faced Starling. Other species we may encounter during our rainforest walks include Purple-faced Leaf Monkey, Giant Squirrel, Kangaroo Lizard, Hump-nosed Lizard & Sri Lanka Keelback. We will also be keeping an eye out for reptiles such as Green Pit Viper & Hump Nosed Lizard.

Photographable Species: Asian Elephant, Blue Whale, Bottlenose Dolphin, Brydes Whale, Changeable Hawk Eagle, Chesnut-backed Owlet, Giant Squirrel, Green Pit Viper, Grey Langur, Hump-nosed Lizard, Humpbacked Dolphin, Kangaroo Lizard, Mugger Crocodile, Pink Dolphin, Purple-faced Leaf Monkey, Risso Dolphin, Saltwater Crocodile, Sea Turtle, Serendib Scops Owl, Short Finned Pilot Whale, Sperm Whale, Spinner Dolphin, Sri Lanka Keelback, Sri Lanka Spurfowl, Striped Dolphin, White-Bellied Sea Eagle, White-faced Starling, brown fish owl, buffalo, crested serpent eagle, elephant, jackal, leopard, orca, sambar, sloth bear, spotted deer

2022 – Welsh Puffins of Skomer Island Photography Holiday

An Atlantic Puffin Silhouetted On One Of The Headlands Photographed During The NaturesLens Welsh Puffins Of Skomer Island WIldlife Photograhpy Holiday
Join Robin on wild Skomer, photographing the ‘clowns of the sea’; atlantic puffins, as they thrive within their unspoilt island habitat. We offer keen wildlife photographers the chance to spend 3 nights on the island, making the most of the scenic backdrop & varied light conditions that the island offers.
Over 3 days you will be led by Robin Lowry a member of the NaturesLens guiding team, navigating the island & using the best viewpoints to capture stunning images to add to your portfolio.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of comical Atlantic puffin, in United Kingdom, during the Welsh Puffins of Skomer Island photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 3 night/4 day duration on a Half Board, Shared basis & costs £599 per participant.
Join Robin on a remote wildlife adventure, getting up close to the atlantic puffin on the wild & unspoilt island of Skomer, where their population thrives. These special birds are considered by many to be a national treasure. Their behaviour & characteristics are hugely inspiring to photograph, such as their short wings that they use to dip & dive underwater, ‘flying’ to catch fish. The large population of puffins has been able to flourish here thanks to minimal disruption of the island environment by humans, as well as the lack of threat from native predators.
For the past 7 years, NaturesLens has been taking photographers to Skomer Island; we have perfected this trip to give individuals the best possible exposure to these island birds, spending hours navigating the few paths which exist on Skomer to capture stunning images of the puffins surrounded by dramatic cliffs & crashing waves. Staying overnight gives you the opportunity to photograph these birds in a wide variety of lighting conditions, & your photography will also benefit from the calm that falls when the day-trippers leave the island. This unrivalled access to the island environment provides opportunities to experiment with light & be more creative with your photography, as well as witness late night visits from Manx Shearwaters.
The island environment & surrounding coastline is home to a wide range of species other than puffins, including razorbills, guillemots, all of whom make their home in the cliffs & headlands which border the island. These contrast with the more sheltered inlets that border the island, which is home to seals & other mammal populations. You will have extensive opportunities to witness these additional species within their rugged & unspoilt island home, whilst maintaining the puffins as the focus of photography excursions.
This trip gives individuals the chance to experience ‘off the grid’ living; to really escape from the modern world, relax, & become immersed within this unique & remote environment.
Spaces are limited so book early to avoid disappointment!

Join NaturesLens to capture images of the charismatic Dalmatian Pelicans on Lake Kerkini, in Greece, during the Dalmatian Pelicans of Greece photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 5 night/6 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £1499 per participant.
For the past 6 years, NaturesLens has been taking photographers to Lake Kerkini; in 2019, join David, one of the co-founders of NaturesLens, for a unique wildlife experience, getting up close & personal with the beautiful prehistoric bird that is the Dalmatian Pelican; capturing them on camera within their natural habitat of beautiful Lake Kerkini in northern Greece. This trip encompasses four full days spent getting to know this unique landscape, offering extensive opportunities to photograph these incredible birds, as well as neighbouring wildlife such as the Pygmy Cormorant & the majestic Greater Flamingo.
The Dalmatian Pelican is, by a small margin, the largest of the Pelican species, as well as one of the largest living bird species on earth. These magnificent birds have been in decline in recent years, partly due to habitat destruction on the part of us humans, but thankfully the population at Kerkini has prevailed & still thrives within this perfect haven.
This trip is best suited to those of you with mid-level to advanced photography skills looking for a new challenge. We pride ourselves in offering something special to clients in comparison to other trip providers, so we have coordinated this itinerary to allow you to capture these magnificent birds at sunrise & sunset.
Highlights of the trip include four boat trips on to the lake on consecutive days, four shoreline feeds offering you the chance to get up close to these magnificent birds & witness their feeding behaviours, & cosy accommodation in a nearby hotel as an oasis from the harsh winter conditions. All the details are taken care of for you so that you can relax & enjoy this unique wildlife photography adventure.
You will be on the lake before the sun comes up to see the Pelicans at first light, & after the morning’s activities, will break for a warming lunch as a much-needed break from the cold, discussing what the rest of the day will hold. As a group you will then embark on an afternoon of further exciting photography opportunities, remaining on the shoreline of the lake through to early evening to make the most of the changing light conditions. When the day comes to an end, you will return to the comfort of the hotel to relax in front of a roaring fire, freshen up & discuss your achievements from the day.
David, one of our photography guides, will lead you throughout this photography tour, providing guidance & advice as needed & helping you develop your skills. They will help you shoot these birds in wide & close up shots; capturing them in movement while feeding & fighting for fish, interacting with each other or in flight with the impressive backdrop provided by the lake & surrounding snow-capped mountains.
Our group numbers are strictly limited to allow for the highest quality experience for everyone involved, & as this photography is seasonal, we can only offer this trip to a small number of lucky individuals each year. Book early to avoid disappointment!

2022 – Hummingbirds & Wildlife of Ecuador Photography Holiday

Join David on a nature photography trip to Ecuador where you will encounter one of the highest diversity of birds in the world. The number of different bird species, especially Hummingbirds, is simply mind-boggling.
Ecuador means ‘equator’ & it runs through this country attracting birds from both the northern & southern hemispheres. Some people refer to the climate in Ecuador as eternal spring, as there is little variation in the annual daily temperature, making the climate very comfortable. The Andes mountain range provides a variety of elevations for photo opportunities including beautiful valleys & majestic active volcanoes.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of Wildlife of Ecuador, in Ecuador, during the Hummingbirds & Wildlife of Ecuador photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 15 night/16 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £4749  £4499 per participant.
This nature photography adventure is designed to visit very safe tourist areas in the provinces of Pichincha, Napo & Orellana which are some of the best places for bird photography & far away from the areas highlighted by the Foreign Office. In addition, David & our local guide are always looking for new places to provide the best photography experience.
With 1600 different birds species, Ecuador is a mega-diverse country & one for the bucket list for any bird photographer.
There will be opportunities to photograph hummingbirds on feeders & visit a refuge famous for its rare birds such as the Cock-of-the-rock (yes, it is a bird!!), Rufous-fronted Wood-Quail, Yellow-breasted Antpitta, Moustached Antpitta, Ochre-breasted Antpitta & Choco Trogon. If you are lucky, you may even witness a Cock-of-the-rock lek!
In Ecuador’s rainforests, you can see flocks of oropendolas, aracari, tanagers & euphonias as they roam the forest canopy in search of fruit. Plum-throated Cotingas glow from the treetops & raptors perch on vantage points to dry off in the morning sun while White-browed Purpletufts & Crowned Slaty Flycatchers sally for insects. If there is a fruiting tree nearby, you may even see numerous parrots & macaws fly by or drop-in, & many other species flying past.
Our first stay will be at Mindo Loma; Mindo Loma is a great place for photography of Hummingbirds & Tanagers at feeders & is located approximately 1 ½ hours from Quito in the middle of the Cloud forest on the west slope of the Andes. This will be our base & the starting point for all the photography locations & lodges that we will visit this side of the Andes Cordillera.
While staying in Mindo Loma, we will visit Mashpi, a location that is a significant area for bird photography. Mashpi is part of the Chocó area, in the Amagusa reserve. Many species arrive to feed at the banana laden feeders. Species we hope to be able to photograph at this location include Glistening-green Tanager, Moss-backed Tanager, Lemon-rumped Tanager, Golden-collared Honeycreeper, Green Honeycreeper, Purple-bibbed Whitetip Hummingbird, White-throated Quail-dove.
Another location we will visit while staying in Mindo Loma is Refugio Paz de las Aves. Here, we should be able to capture images of the Andean Cock-of-the-rock, Ochre-breasted Antpitta, Rufous-breasted Antthrush, Giant Antpitta, Moustached Antpitta, Yellow-breasted Antpitta, Orange-breasted Fruiteater.
Moving on from Mindo Loma, we head to an area of the country dedicated to conservation & eco-tourism. The area has the highest likelihood of being able to observe & photograph the Umbrellabird. Aside from the Umbrellabird, we hope to be able to photograph Black Solitaire, Long-wattled Umbrellabird, Rufous Motmot, Chocó Toucan, Pale-mandibled Araçari, White Necked Jacobin Hummingbird, White-whiskered Hermit Hummingbird, Green Thorntail Hummingbird, Green-crowned Brilliant Hummingbird, Green-crowned Woodnymph Hummingbird, Rufous-throated Tanager, Silver-throated Tanager, Golden-winged Manakin, Club-winged Manakin.
Next, we find ourselves at Yanacocha, a Reserve of the Jocotoco Foundation & is at 3200 – 3400 meters above sea level. This is the only forest on the West Andean Slope that has feeders available, & of course, we will make the best use of these opportunities.
We will spend several days undertaking photography in the Ecological Reserve of Antisana located in the East Andean Slope with an excellent opportunity to find Condors, & the area has several lakes which we may make use of to obtain images of some of the region’s aquatic birds.
We will make use of the grounds of the Guango Lodge, located near to the hot springs of Papallacta & a paradise for a variety of species of hummingbird. It is a fantastic location to capture images of these tiny birds.
Our next location is Puerto Misahualli near the Napo River. Misahualli is a community that is located next to the Napo River, one of the main tributaries of the Amazon River. Next to this community is the Paikawe lagoon, which is an excellent environment for photography of a wide variety of species. We will spend the night at Wildsumaco Bird Lodge.
The Andes’s Eastern Foothills is currently encountering severe problems. The rainforest in the renowned birding locale of Sumaco is rapidly being logged & converted into farmland. Habitat for birds & other animals requiring primary forest is being lost, but small reserves are being established to halt this devastation.
In this rainforest, we hope to be able to photograph Wire-crested Thorntail Hummingbird, Violet-headed Hummingbird, Violet-fronted Brilliant Hummingbird, Black-throated Brilliant Hummingbird, Gould’s Jewelfront Hummingbird, Golden-tailed Sapphire Hummingbird.
While staying at the Napo Cultural Center, we will take boat trips to three amazing destinations, to photograph the parrot clay licks or saladeros. During these boat trips, we hope to see the most beautiful natural spectacle with more than 11 different species that show up in these locations.
Our final location is the Cabañas San Isidro which is located in the East of the Andean Cordillera, in the foothills close to the Amazon. Cabañas San Isidro has Hummingbird feeders & natural trails. Upon our arrival in the morning, we will have the possibility of seeing different species of insects feeding.
We will also be taking opportunities with macro subjects such as frogs & reptiles, butterflies, other mammals & literally anything else that crosses our path during the 16 days.
Photographable Species: andean cock-of-the-rock, andean condor, andean coot, andean gull, andean teal, andean tit-spinetail, black solitaire, black-billed mountain-toucan, black-capped tanager, black-chested buzzard-eagle, black-chested mountain-tanager, black-faced ibis, black-mandibled toucan, black-throated brilliant hummingbird, black-winged ground-dove, blue-backed conebill, blue-crowned manakin, blue-winged mountain-tanager, bronzy inca, brown inca hummingbird, capped heron, carunculated caracara, chestnut breasted coronet, chocó toucan, club winged manakin, collared inca hummingbird, empress brilliant hummingbird, fawn-breasted brilliant hummingbird, flame- faced tanager, giant antpitta, glistening-green tanager, glowing puffleg hummingbird, golden- collared honeycreeper, golden-breasted puffleg hummingbird, golden-headed quetzal, golden-napped tanager, golden-tailed sapphire hummingbird, golden-winged manakin, gould’s jewelfront hummingbird, great potoo, great sapphire-wing hummingbird, green honeycreeper, green thorntail hummingbird, green-crowned brilliant hummingbird, green-crowned woodnymph hummingbird, hoatzin, hooded mountain tanager, inca jay, lacrimose mountain-tanager, lemon-rumped tanager, long-wattled umbrellabird, macaw, magpie tanager, moss-backed tanager, mountain-tanager, moustached antpitta, ocellated tapaculo, ochre-breasted antpitta, orange-breasted fruiteater, orange-eared tanager, pale-mandibled araçari, parakeet, parrot, pavonie quetzal, powerful woodpecker, purple-backed thornbill hummingbird, purple-bibbed whitetip hummingbird, páramo ground tyrant, rainbow-bearded thornbill hummingbird, red-billed parrot, rufous antpitta, rufous motmot, rufous-breasted antthrush, rufous-throated tanager, scarlet- bellied mountain-tanager, shining sunbeam hummingbird, silver-throated tanager, silvery grebe, stripe-headed brush-finch, sword-billed hummingbird, swordbill hummingbird, torrent duck, toucan barbet, tourmaline sunangel hummingbird, turquoise jay, velvet-purple coronet hummingbird, violet-fronted brilliant hummingbird, violet-headed hummingbird, violet-tailed sylph hummingbird, wattled guan, white capped dipper, white necked jacobin hummingbird, white-capped tanager, white-throated quail-dove, white-whiskered hermit hummingbird, wire-crested thorntail hummingbird, yellow-billed pintail, yellow-breasted antpitta

The photography safaris & hide sessions all take place within a pristinely preserved wildlife reserve, which provides the animals with a protected habitat while allowing photographers to come & observe these animals thrive, & capture awe-inspiring images.
The Zimanga wildlife reserve offers 6000 hectares of unspoilt sub-tropical bushveld, fever tree forests & hilly terrain, providing you with opportunities to capture the best images of birds & wildlife alike from every possible angle. The reserve has a huge diversity of South African wildlife including mammals such as black-backed jackal, buffalo, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, hippo, impala, kudu, leopard, lion, nyala, rhino, spotted hyena, waterbuck, wildebeest & zebra; & birds such as babbler, barbet, bee-eater, firefinch, fish eagle, hamerkop, kingfisher, lemon breasted canary, mousebird, plover, Rudd’s Apalis, sandpiper, twinspot, vulture & waxbill. These hides have been created with the photographer in mind, providing the optimum structure & positioning throughout the park.
One way glass means you will be invisible to the animals, enabling you to photograph their entirely natural behaviour within the reserve. From the splendid Goshawks & Harriers to the diminutive lesser kestrels, all living side by side in the local ecosystem, which exists in this region. Castile-La Mancha is the region of Spain within which the action of the famous Spanish novel Don Quixote of Cervantes takes place; it is a symbol of the Spanish culture with sunflowers, windmills & El Quijote.
Our Spanish Birdlife of Central Spain photography holiday provides you with a week packed with hide sessions, where your photography will benefit from unparalleled access to locations; the hides are situated strategically within the landscape to provide the best opportunity to photograph a stunning range of bird species.
Additionally, you will have at least two hide sessions devoted to the photography of the lesser kestrel colony, from conceivably the best duo of lesser kestrel hides that we have ever seen!
One morning will see you undertake a photography session dedicated to the goshawk, assuming that the species remains present on the estate, & a during the afternoon a further session devoted to photography of the harriers, buzzards & kites.
In addition, there are hides for little owl, for wading birds where the hides are sunken into the ground, hides for endemic birds at a drinking pool, hides amongst reed beds for bearded reedlings, reed buntings & more – you will be able to make use of all of these during your 7 night Spanish birds photography holiday.

The NaturesLens Birdlife of Central Spain photography holiday is a unique opportunity to photograph some of the estate’s varied & distinct birdlife, including various raptors, many of the indigenous Spanish species, plus of course the lesser kestrel colony &, hopefully, the Goshawk.
The beautiful landscape, filled as far as you can see with olive groves, offers keen wildlife photographers the ideal opportunity for capturing fabulous images of all the birdlife, but within the groves, particularly, we hope the little owl.
We provide full-board accommodation – with this being on the estate itself, this means no travelling in the morning or the evening back to a hotel, plus all the food is catered for the group – a light breakfast before heading to the hides & ending with a meal after the evening photography session, with a lunch in between. Everything is taken care of for you so that experiencing & photographing the species & their environment is all you need to consider.
