An Adult Lesser Kestrel On The Farm Building Rooftop With A Freshly Caught Insect Photographed On The Estate Used For The NaturesLens Spanish Birds Of Toledo Photography Holiday
NaturesLens is pleased to offer a new wildlife photography tour to wildlife photographers of amateur & semi-professional ability, join David in escaping to the diverse landscape of the Castile-La Mancha region of Spain, you will spend many hours from dawn to dusk making use of an amazing custom-built hide network within the estate of El Taray, which includes ground-level, floating, water-level & sunken hides to capture images of bearded reedling, warblers, collared pratincole, sandpipers, iberian yellow wagtailkentish ploverkingfisherlapwing, grebes of various type, moorhenpin-tailed sandgrouseshelduckspotless starling, the brilliant stone curlewwater rail & more; & of course, the lesser kestrel , plus a variety of other species that are indigenous to the region. Making use of an astonishing network of custom-built hides, which are spread throughout the property, you will be provided with the best bird photography moments possible, capturing birds in flight, within their habitats & interacting with one another.
As usual, our small group size ensures that you have excellent use of the hides, allowing you to capture dramatic images from the best angles, with photography guidance provided by David where needed.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of a truly immense selection of birds found on & around the estate of Laguna del Taray, in Spain, during the The Fantastic Birds of El Taray photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 7 night/8 day duration on a Full Board with Drinks Included, Non-Shared basis & costs £2699  £2499 per participant.
A vast landscape, with a superb network of hides, the fantastic range of birdlife that co-exists within the estate of El Taray to be found in the Castile-La Mancha region of Spain, all contribute to an experience not to be missed. This photographic holiday is one which will add many species to your photographic portfolio. From the splendid Goshawks & Harriers to the diminutive lesser kestrels, all living side by side in the local ecosystem, which exists in this region. Castile-La Mancha is the region of Spain within which the action of the famous Spanish novel Don Quixote of Cervantes takes place; it is a symbol of the Spanish culture with sunflowers, windmills & El Quijote.
Our Spanish Birds of Toldeo photography holiday provides you with a week packed with hide sessions, where your photography will benefit from unparalleled access to locations; the hides are situated strategically within the landscape to provide the best opportunity to photograph a stunning range of bird species.
Additionally, you will have at least two hide sessions devoted to the photography of the lesser kestrel colony, from conceivably the best duo of lesser kestrel hides that we have ever seen!
One morning will see you undertake a photography session dedicated to the goshawk, assuming that the species remains present on the estate, & a during the afternoon a further session devoted to photography of the harriers, buzzards & kites.
Two sessions will be devoted to photography from floating hides, these sessions are a lot of fun & allow for unique photos of birds on the water to be captured, however, should this not be for you, we will adjust your itinerary so that this activity is replaced with a different, but equally exciting, hide experience.
In addition, there are hides for little owl, for wading birds where the hides are sunken into the ground, hides for endemic birds at a drinking pool, hides amongst reed beds for bearded reedlings, reed buntings & more – you will be able to make use of all of these during your 7 night Spanish birds photography holiday.
The estate of El Taray is found in the Province of Toledo & the Castile-La Mancha region, in the central part of the country, 100 km south of the capital Madrid.
The NaturesLens Spanish Birds of Toldeo photography holiday is a unique opportunity to photograph some of the estate’s varied & distinct birdlife, including various raptors, many of the indigenous Spanish species, plus of course the lesser kestrel colony &, hopefully, the Goshawk.
The beautiful landscape, filled as far as you can see with olive groves, offers keen wildlife photographers the ideal opportunity for capturing fabulous images of all the birdlife, but within the groves, particularly, we hope the little owl.
We provide full-board accommodation – with this being on the estate itself, this means no travelling in the morning or the evening back to a hotel, plus all the food is catered for the group – a light breakfast before heading to the hides & ending with a meal after the evening photography session, with a lunch in between. Everything is taken care of for you so that experiencing & photographing the species & their environment is all you need to consider.
This trip suits enthusiastic photographers with a passion to experience the magnificent birdlife that Toldeo has to offer; capturing editorial-quality images of a range of bird species to treasure for years to come. Places are minimal to ensure the best experience for every guest, so book early to avoid frustration.
One of the reasons that to date, NaturesLens had not featured the Goshawk on any Spanish photography holiday before this one was that all the locations that we found previously were “live-baited” … none of the species on the Spanish Birds of Toldeo photography holiday is live-baited; consequently, NaturesLens are now delighted to be able to offer Goshawk photography sessions to our clients.
Photographable Species: bearded reedling, bee-eater, black kite, blackbird, cetti's warbler, collared pratincole, common buzzard, common reed warbler, common sandpiper, crested lark, goshawk, great reed warbler, green sandpiper, hoopoe, iberian hare, iberian yellow wagtail, imperial eagle, jackdaw, kentish plover, kingfisher, lapwing, lesser kestrel, little grebe, little owl, magpie, marsh harrier, montagus harrier, moorhen, moustached warbler, nightingale, pallid harrier, pin-tailed sandgrouse, roller, savi's warbler, shelduck, spanish sparrow, spotless starling, starling, stone curlew, stonechat, tit, tits, tree sparrow, water rail, wild rabbit

2022 – Wildlife Hides & Safaris of Kenya Photography Holiday

A group of elephant photographed from a helicopter - photographed at the lodge used for the NaturesLens Wildlife Hides & Safaris of Kenya Photography Holiday
The lodge that is the cornerstone for our Wildlife Hides & Safaris of Kenya photography holiday is family-owned & operates in the heart of the Kenyan wilderness on land responsibly leased from the local Maasai community. It is owned by people who have a love for wildlife & wilderness areas, who wanted to protect it, & then share it with the world.
The conservancy that we will be located in, is 25,000 hectares & shares a border with another conservancy which is 60,000 hectares. The lodge we are using is the ONLY lodge in the area & from there, we will have exclusive access to both conservancies. With such a large area to roam, it is rare to come across any other car on a game drive.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of the wildlife of an exclusive conservancy, in Kenya, during the Wildlife Hides & Safaris of Kenya photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 9 night/10 day duration on a Full Board with Drinks Included, Non-Shared basis & costs £5999  £5749 per participant.
The area is a wildlife paradise with impala, dik-dik, kudu, Grants gazelle, giraffe, elephant, lions, leopards, cheetah, aardwolf, striped & spotted hyena, colobus monkey, vervet monkeys, genet, wild cat, bush babies, porcupine, honey badgers & various mongoose. The list does go on with the only significant species you will not find in the conservancy is the rhino.
Birdlife at the lodge is excellent. The lodge has had a guest record of over 110 species of birds in three days whilst in camp from martial eagles, ostrich & secretary birds to greater & lesser flamingo, African spoonbills & pelicans in the lakes to the smaller weavers & sunbirds.
Since we will be staying in a private conservancy, our group will have full rights to drive off the road with no time limits on return to camp, allowing complete freedom to the wilderness at all times.
The neighbouring river is stunning for evening sundowners or just an afternoon with chairs in the river reading a book or watching the wildlife come to drink at various points.
We will be taking trips away from the conservancy to visit the nearby salt lakes, virtually guaranteeing Flamingo photography opportunities & lots of other salt lake birds.
We have also planned to take a trip to a Fig tree forest with huge tree canopies inhabited by Colobus Monkey families.
Unlike other areas around Africa, the night drives are incredibly productive, & because the lodge is located in a generally warmer area, the night drives are undertaken in a comfortable temperature, with guests going out in shorts & not feeling cold, adding a different dynamic to the safari experience.
There will also be the option (at additional cost) to do some aerial photography from a helicopter. There really is nothing is as remarkable as seeing the area from the skies in a helicopter due to the incredible patterns & colours on the nearby lakes. The lakes are like paintings & to appreciate them truly you need to get above them into the skies.
The crowning glory for the lodge, & indeed our Wildlife Hides & Safaris of Kenya photography holiday, is the underground photographic hide located in front of a waterhole. The lodge has had a waterhole in front of the camp from inception & the photographic hide has recently undergone some upgrades to make it even more comfortable. This hide will be used throughout the week for both day & night photography sessions.
The waterhole & underground photographic hide comprises of a 20 foot, air-conditioned container, complete with bar, fridge, library & wine rack! A lot of thought has gone into it, including carpeting the floors for soundproofing noise. The external lights can be controlled individually from within the hide, the lip of the waterhole has been remodelled to look natural as has the approach so that photographers can see the entire animal as it approaches & drinks from the pool. Being air-conditioned, it is very comfortable for photography, but also just for sitting & watching animals in the comfort of camp.
During the dry season, the hide is guaranteed daily action with visits from large herds of zebra, impala, vervet monkeys & baboon troops in the mornings & afternoons.
On almost every evening, the waterhole is active with guests having dinner & experiencing everything from lion, spotted & striped hyena, buffalo, aardwolf, leopard, giraffe, genets, & even on the auspicious occasion – porcupine! cheetah has been spotted at the waterhole during the late afternoon however this is rare & more commonly found on the plains. During 2020, wild dog have infrequently been observed coming through the area but this occurrence is becoming more frequent.
The waterhole & hide are the high point of this Kenyan photographic experience in our opinion. It is an experience that requires patience to camp out in the hide & wait, but the results are worth it when the animals do visit. The best part about this 8-night trip is that you will have 4 nights overlooking the waterhole from the hide!
Our Wildlife Hides & Safaris of Kenya photography holiday is an opportunity to undertake a genuinely exclusive experience, in an exclusive conservancy & lodge. Our trip is inclusive of a well-stocked bar, with top-shelf vodkas, gins, whiskies, rums, wines etc. all included in the rate.
Photographable Species: aardwolf, african spoonbill, bush baby, cheetah, colobus monkey, dik dik, elephant, genet, giraffe, grants gazelle, greater flamingo, honey badger, impala, kudu, leopard, lesser flamingo, lion, martial eagle, mongoose, ostrich, pelican, porcupine, secretary bird, spotted hyena, striped hyena, vervet monkey, wild cat

2022 – Dalmatian Pelicans of Kerkini Photography Holiday

One Of Kerkini's Dalmatian Pelicans Drifts Serenely Across The Waters Of The Lake Photographed During The NaturesLens Dalmatian Pelicans Of Greece WIldlife Photograhpy Holiday
NaturesLens offer keen wildlife photographers the chance to encounter the impressive Dalmatian Pelican, photographing the population of this species as they thrive in their picturesque natural habitat; Lake Kerkini in northern Greece.
We have designed an all-encompassing photography experience, ensuring that internal travel & comfortable accommodation are organised for you to ensure that you can focus on making the most of opportunities to capture editorial quality images. Our trips fill up quickly, so ensure that you book early to avoid missing out!
Join NaturesLens to capture images of the charismatic Dalmatian Pelicans, in Greece, during the Dalmatian Pelicans of Kerkini photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 3 night/4 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £799  £749 per participant.
Since 2014, NaturesLens has been taking photographers to Lake Kerkini; in 2022, join David, one of the co-founders of NaturesLens, for a unique wildlife experience, getting up close & personal with the beautiful prehistoric bird that is the Dalmatian Pelican; capturing them on camera within their natural habitat of beautiful Lake Kerkini in northern Greece. This 3 night trip encompasses four full days spent getting to know this unique landscape, offering extensive opportunities to photograph these incredible birds, as well as neighbouring wildlife such as the Pygmy Cormorant & the majestic Greater Flamingo.
The Dalmatian Pelican is, by a small margin, the largest of the Pelican species, as well as one of the largest living bird species on earth. These magnificent birds have been in decline in recent years, partly due to habitat destruction on the part of us humans, but thankfully the population at Kerkini has prevailed & still thrives within this perfect haven.
This trip is best suited to those of you with mid-level to advanced photography skills looking for a new challenge. We pride ourselves in offering something special to clients in comparison to other trip providers, so we have coordinated this itinerary to allow you to capture these magnificent birds at sunrise & sunset.
Highlights of the trip include daily boat trips on to the lake, daily shoreline feeds offering you the chance to get up close to the Dalmatian Pelicans & witness their feeding behaviours, & cosy accommodation in a nearby hotel as an oasis from the harsh winter conditions. All the details are taken care of for you so that you can relax & enjoy this unique wildlife photography adventure.

You will be on the lake before the sun comes up to see the Pelicans at first light, & after the morning’s activities, will break for a warming lunch as a much-needed break from the cold, discussing what the rest of the day will hold. As a group you will then embark on an afternoon of further exciting photography opportunities, remaining on the shoreline of the lake through to early evening to make the most of the changing light conditions. When the day comes to an end, you will return to the comfort of the hotel to relax in front of a roaring fire, freshen up & discuss your achievements from the day.

During this 3 night photography holiday, David, one of our photography guides, will lead you throughout this photography tour, providing guidance & advice as needed & helping you develop your skills. David will help you capture images of the Dalmatian Pelicans in both wide & close up shots; capturing them in movement while feeding & fighting for fish, interacting with each other or in flight with the impressive backdrop provided by the lake & surrounding snow-capped mountains.

Our group numbers are strictly limited to allow for the highest quality experience for everyone involved, & as this photography is seasonal, we can only offer this trip to a small number of lucky individuals each year. Book early to avoid disappointment!

You will also benefit from the solar-powered air conditioning & comfortable interiors within the hides; included to make your wildlife experience as comfortable & enjoyable as possible.
Two birdbath hides in the heart of the reserve offer you the opportunity to photograph the wide variety of bird species which inhabit the region, including the pink-throated twinspot, kingfishers, barbets & mousebirds to name a few. But that’s not all. These hides may also give you the opportunity to photograph other visiting species, such as warthog, banded mongoose & monkeys.
A final pair of hides are provided for night photography sessions. which you will use one of each on two nights, providing you with a completely different experience of the reserve, observing a variety of species as they carry out their nighttime activities. 2022 – Birdlife of Texas Photography Holiday

An image typical of those that will be captured at the Laguna Seca Ranch during the NaturesLens Birdlife of the Rio Grande Valley Photography Holiday
Join David in the Rio Grande Valley, one of the premier areas in North America to view & capture images of the wildlife. The format of this 9 night trip will be to make use of three of the best ranches in the Rio Grande area, to enable you to get some stunning images of mammals, raptors & other birds that can be photographed from the hides.
As a bonus, for at least two of the days, we will be guided by Hector D. Astorga, who will be on hand to ensure that we make the best use of the photographic opportunities available to us.
The Rio Grande Valley is a well known hot spot for a large variety of bird species, some of which are unique to this area.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of the fantastic birdlife of Texas, in United States, during the Birdlife of Texas photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 9 night/10 day duration on a Half Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £4249 per participant.
The three ranches which we will make use of are:
Laguna Seca Ranch with their collection of elevated & ground level hides for photographing songbirds & raptors. The ranch is comprised of 700 acres of pristine brushland with hides that have been designed with photographers & their needs in mind. All the hides are located near water holes or areas where there are no trees within at least 100 feet, thereby ensuring perfect backgrounds.
Martin Refuge is located in 300-acre thick South Texan brush, rich with tremendous biodiversity of birds, mammals & reptiles. The hides have been professionally designed & are set back from small water holes, close to feeding areas to allow you to capture the wildlife as they wander in for refreshments. Some of the hides here have been sunk into the ground which gives you a perfect eye-level view of your subject, which, of course, is key to a great wildlife image. The Martin Refuge boasts some of the best raptor photography experiences, especially if you are hoping to add images of Crested Caracara & Harris Hawk to your portfolio.
Santa Clara Ranch is a 300-acre parcel of native South Texan brush where the wildlife roams freely, thanks to a conservation easement which prevents hunting & ensures that the native brush will remain untouched in perpetuity at the ranch. Water features & feeding stations have been placed throughout the property to attract wildlife which can be photographed from low-level & elevated hides positioned to optimise morning & afternoon light. The elevated hides are dedicated to raptor photography & in the past, have exceeded expectations with numerous raptors coming to perch just 35-40 feet away!
The price includes all ground transportation within Texas, comfortable accommodation on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis, all photography activities at the ranches, with the split being 3 days at Santa Clara Ranch, 2 at Laguna Seca Ranch, & 2 at Martin Refuge, plus guidance from our local guide, who is himself an accomplished & recognised Texan wildlife photographer.

2022 – Spanish Birds of Calera Photography Holiday

One Of The Lesser Kestrels From A Large Clony Living In A Derelict Barn Photographed During The Spanish Birds Of The Calera Plains Photography Holiday
Join Dan Trim on an exciting photography excursion suited to wildlife enthusiasts, photographing the diverse bird species that inhabit the plains of Calera. With a wide selection of comfortable hides throughout the area at our disposal, we will provide you with the best bird photography opportunities possible, capturing them in flight, within their habitats & interacting with one another.
Working from dawn ’til dusk watching this wonderful range of species in action, this is an experience you won’t want to miss!
Join NaturesLens to capture images of owls, kites & other endemic Spanish birdlife, in Spain, during the Spanish Birds of Calera photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 8 night/9 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £2499  £2249 per participant.
We have been capturing images in this region of Spain, using these hides for the past 8 years, & we can honestly say that the range of bird species which thrive in Calera is a sight to behold. From the Little Owl to Black & Griffon Vultures, their characteristics & common behaviours are diverse, but they all live side by side making up a large proportion of the delicate local ecosystem which exists in this region. Birds can provide some of the most exciting wildlife photography opportunities, as their quick, unpredictable behaviour keeps us on our toes & enables captivating movement & in-flight imagery to be captured.
Our 8 night/9 day excursion to Calera offers opportunities to photograph a huge range of native species, including the Bee Eater, Little Owl, Great & Little Bustard, Black & Griffon Vultures, Lesser & Common Kestrel, Hoopoe, & the Black Winged Kite, as well as many others. We offer an all-inclusive accommodation & meal package to ensure that all you need to worry about is taking unique & mesmerising photographs.
Sunrise & sunset are often considered the prime times of day for creative photography, so unlike other holidays & tours, we ensure that our photography sessions make the most of these times of the day. This provides unrivalled exposure to the variety of species & the environment which inhabit this region.
NaturesLens provides 7 days of hide sessions, & on most days you will have the opportunity to use different hides in the morning & afternoon to photograph different species. This trip works on a rotation basis so that each member of the group gets the opportunity to take photographs from a variety of hides. The region is home to a wide range of Iberian Southern European specialities, & we will do our best to tailor your schedule if you make us aware of your target species, photography guidance is provided by Dan where needed.
The freedom we provide with the times of day for photography is important, as many of these bird species are very wary & cautious around humans, & it may, therefore, be necessary to arrive under the cover of darkness. It will also be advisable to approach slowly, & keep noise at a minimum whilst in the hides so as not to startle the birds, as well as to optimise your chances of photographing the birds whilst they are unaware of your presence.
The weather can vary between different times of day in this region at this time of year, so we advise that you bring layers & prepare for somewhat unpredictable weather conditions.
Join NaturesLens for a wildlife photography holiday you will never forget.
