Making use of an astonishing network of custom-built hides, which are spread throughout the property, you will be provided with the best bird photography moments possible, capturing birds in flight, within their habitats & interacting with one another.
As usual, our small group size ensures that you have excellent use of the hides, allowing you to capture dramatic images from the best angles, with photography guidance provided by Alan where needed.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of a truly immense selection of birds found on & around the estate of Laguna del Taray, in Spain, during the Spanish Birdlife of Toledo photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 7 night/8 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £2499  £2249 per participant.
A vast landscape, with a superb network of hides, the fantastic range of birdlife that co-exists within this estate to be found in the Castile-La Mancha region of Spain, all contribute to an experience not to be missed. This photographic holiday is one which will add many species to your photographic portfolio. From the splendid Goshawks & Harriers to the diminutive lesser kestrels, all living side by side in the local ecosystem, which exists in this region. Castile-La Mancha is the region of Spain within which the action of the famous Spanish novel Don Quixote of Cervantes takes place; it is a symbol of the Spanish culture with sunflowers, windmills & El Quijote.

Our Spanish Birds of Toldeo photography holiday provides you with a week packed with hide sessions, where your photography will benefit from unparalleled access to locations; the hides are situated strategically within the landscape to provide the best opportunity to photograph a stunning range of bird species.
One Of The Marsh Harriers, Mantling Over Food, In Front Of One Of The Hides Photographed On The Estate Used For The NaturesLens Spanish Birds Of Toledo Photography Holiday
Additionally, you will have at least two hide sessions devoted to the photography of the lesser kestrel colony, from conceivably the best duo of lesser kestrel hides that we have ever seen!
One morning will see you undertake a photography session dedicated to the goshawk, assuming that the species remains present on the estate, & a during the afternoon a further session devoted to photography of the harriers, buzzards & kites.
Two sessions will be devoted to photography from floating hides, these sessions are a lot of fun & allow for unique photos of birds on the water to be captured, however, should this not be for you, we will adjust your itinerary so that this activity is replaced with a different, but equally exciting, hide experience.
In addition, there are hides for little owl, for wading birds where the hides are sunken into the ground, hides for endemic birds at a drinking pool, hides amongst reed beds for bearded reedlings, reed buntings & more – you will be able to make use of all of these during your 7 night Spanish birds photography holiday.
The estate that we will make use of is found in the Province of Toledo & the Castile-La Mancha region, in the central part of the country, 100 km south of the capital Madrid.
The NaturesLens Spanish Birds of Toldeo photography holiday is a unique opportunity to photograph some of the estate’s varied & distinct birdlife, including various raptors, many of the indigenous Spanish species, plus of course the lesser kestrel colony &, hopefully, the Goshawk.
The beautiful landscape, filled as far as you can see with olive groves, offers keen wildlife photographers the ideal opportunity for capturing fabulous images of all the birdlife, but within the groves, particularly, we hope the little owl.
Accommodation is provided on a half-board basis – a light breakfast before heading to the hides & ending with a meal after the evening session in the hides. Everything is taken care of for you so that experiencing & photographing the species & their environment is all you need to consider.
This trip suits enthusiastic photographers with a passion to experience the magnificent birdlife that Toldeo has to offer; capturing editorial-quality images of a range of bird species to treasure for years to come. Places are minimal to ensure the best experience for every guest, so book early to avoid frustration.
One of the reasons that to date, NaturesLens had not featured the Goshawk on any Spanish photography holiday before this one was that all the locations that we found previously were “live-baited” … none of the species on the Spanish Birds of Toldeo photography holiday is live-baited; consequently, NaturesLens are now delighted to be able to offer Goshawk photography sessions to our clients.
Photographable Species: bearded reedling, bee-eater, black kite, blackbird, cetti's warbler, collared pratincole, common buzzard, common reed warbler, common sandpiper, crested lark, goshawk, great reed warbler, green sandpiper, hoopoe, iberian hare, iberian yellow wagtail, imperial eagle, jackdaw, kentish plover, kingfisher, lapwing, lesser kestrel, little grebe, little owl, magpie, marsh harrier, montagus harrier, moorhen, moustached warbler, nightingale, pallid harrier, pin-tailed sandgrouse, roller, savi's warbler, shelduck, spanish sparrow, spotless starling, starling, stone curlew, stonechat, tit, tits, tree sparrow, water rail, wild rabbit

2020 – Welsh Puffins of Skomer Island Photography Holiday

An Atlantic Puffin Silhouetted On One Of The Headlands Photographed During The NaturesLens Welsh Puffins Of Skomer Island WIldlife Photograhpy Holiday
Join Victoria & Ian on wild Skomer, photographing the ‘clowns of the sea’; atlantic puffins, as they thrive within their unspoilt island habitat. We offer keen wildlife photographers the chance to spend 3 nights on the island, making the most of the scenic backdrop & varied light conditions that the island offers.
Over 3 days you will be led by Victoria Hillman & Ian Roberts members of the NaturesLens guiding team, navigating the island & using the best viewpoints to capture stunning images to add to your portfolio.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of comical Atlantic puffin, in United Kingdom, during the Welsh Puffins of Skomer Island photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 3 night/4 day duration on a Half Board, Shared basis & costs £499 per participant.
Join Victoria & Ian on a remote wildlife adventure, getting up close to the atlantic puffin on the wild & unspoilt island of Skomer, where their population thrives. These special birds are considered by many to be a national treasure. Their behaviour & characteristics are hugely inspiring to photograph, such as their short wings that they use to dip & dive underwater, ‘flying’ to catch fish. The large population of puffins has been able to flourish here thanks to minimal disruption of the island environment by humans, as well as the lack of threat from native predators.
For the past 6 years, NaturesLens has been taking photographers to Skomer Island; we have perfected this trip to give individuals the best possible exposure to these island birds, spending hours navigating the few paths which exist on Skomer to capture stunning images of the puffins surrounded by dramatic cliffs & crashing waves. Staying overnight gives you the opportunity to photograph these birds in a wide variety of lighting conditions, & your photography will also benefit from the calm that falls when the day-trippers leave the island. This unrivalled access to the island environment provides opportunities to experiment with light & be more creative with your photography, as well as witness late night visits from Manx Shearwaters.
The island environment & surrounding coastline is home to a wide range of species other than puffins, including razorbills, guillemots, all of whom make their home in the cliffs & headlands which border the island. These contrast with the more sheltered inlets that border the island, which is home to seals & other mammal populations. You will have extensive opportunities to witness these additional species within their rugged & unspoilt island home, whilst maintaining the puffins as the focus of photography excursions.
We have taken care to make things as simple for you as possible to ensure you enjoy the trip. Therefore we organise the boat to & from the island, plus breakfast & dinner is provided. This trip gives individuals the chance to experience ‘off the grid’ living; to really escape from the modern world, relax, & become immersed within this unique & remote environment.
Spaces are limited so book early to avoid disappointment!
Photographable Species: atlantic puffin, little owl, short-eared owl

2019 – Eleonora’s Falcons of Sardinia Photography Holiday

One of the Eleonoras Falcons perched against the cliff photographed on Sardinia the location for the Eleonoras Falcons of Sardinia Photography Holiday
Join NaturesLens, for the Eleonora’s Falcons of Sardinia photography holiday, alongside our guide, Alan. You will find that Sardinia in September offers unique photographic opportunities with the unusually small Eleonora’s Falcon that, despite its size, bears the name of one of the most powerful & important judges of Sardinia, & Sardinia’s most famous heroine.
Eleonora d’Arborea fought against the King of Aragon for the independence of her island, Sardinia, &, while she governed – at the end of the fourteenth century & the beginning of the fifteenth century – she enacted various protective regulations for raptors in the face of the activities of falconers, traffickers & merchants.
In honour of such an outstanding pioneer of bird conservation, this sea hawk was named after the last ruler of the island.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of these tiny Falcons of Sardinia, in Italy, during the Eleonora’s Falcons of Sardinia photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 4 night/5 day duration on a Half Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £1099 per participant.
The marine cliffs of Sardinia harbour one of the largest breeding populations of this small hawk. Since they can only be seen in this part of the continent, it is one of the best places in the world to photograph this species. Our photography holiday is timed to coincide with the mating & nesting season of Eleonora’s Falcon, which occurs at the same time as the autumnal migration of thousands of passerine birds, which form a large part of the diet of the tiny falcon.
Here in single or two-person hides, you will photograph this beautiful bird of prey in the reserve that the Lega Italiana Protezione Uccelli has on this small island. LIPU, the Lega Italiana Protezione Uccelli is an Italian charitable organisation, founded in 1965 & devoted to the protection of the country’s wildlife with a particular focus on birds.
More than 200 pairs of Eleonora’s Falcon nest in the impressive limestone cliffs. Their desire to revisit the cliffs where they hatched makes this area one of the most critical sites for Eleonora’s Falcon. It is also one of the most accessible locations where you can photograph the birds without causing them any distress.
Each day, we will have the assistance of a member of the Lega Italiana Protezione Uccelli, who will show us the best places to photograph this beautiful raptor.
If time permits, we may photograph the Falcons drinking & bathing in a small trough that will be built for its use, getting almost unseen footage of this species.

2017 02 20_10 04 20
NaturesLens invites you to spend this 14 night/15 day tour travelling throughout the wonderfully diverse landscapes of Japan, specifically Central Honshu & Northern Hokkaido, getting up close to a wide range of native species which thrive in harsh winter conditions. Our Japanese Winter Wildlife photography holiday, which we have been leading for the last 6 years, covers a variety of areas, providing you with unique opportunities to undertake wildlife photography of the highest quality.
Guided by David, you will visit Central Honshu & Northern Hokkaido & gain an insight into the variety of landscapes & wildlife which exists throughout the country, made even more photogenic by dramatic winter conditions. The photographic opportunities on our Japanese Winter Wildlife photography tour are always without parallel – with opportunities to photograph the red-crowned cranes, Steller’s sea eagles, white-tailed sea eagle, whooper swans, & of course, the Snow Monkeys, during this photography holiday.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of varied winter wildlife including the red-crowned cranes, Steller’s sea eagles, white-tailed sea eagle, whooper swans, & of course, the Snow Monkeys, in Japan, during the Winter Wildlife of Hokkaido & Japan photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 14 night/15 day duration on a Half Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £5749 per participant.
Join David to travel deep into stunning snow-covered landscapes, capturing beautiful images of wildlife which thrives during harsher seasons in Japan. Our group will travel throughout several different regions, including the mountainous area around Yudanaka in central Japan, & north of the mainland to the island of Hokkaido, giving you an insight into the variety of landscapes & wildlife which exists throughout the country, made even more photogenic by dramatic winter conditions.
A Pair Of Sika Deer On One Of The Penninsulas Photographed During The Winter Wildlife Of Japan Photography Holiday
Our trip offers enthusiastic wildlife photographers the opportunity to rise early for two dawn visits to the famous red-crowned crane roosting sites of the Tsurui region of Hokkaido; spend two days at the Akan red-crowned crane feeding centre; & spend two days observing the beautiful whooper swans which inhabit Lake Kussharo, a frozen caldera lake in the eastern region of Hokkaido.
Not only this, but our trip is unique in offering six boat trips on the drift ice of the Nemuro Strait to photograph Hokkaido’s fabulous Steller’s sea & white-tailed eagle populations as they fly, feed, dive for fish & fight over scraps. These excursions will give you unique access to the native wildlife at each location, providing ample opportunity to obtain incredible images.
Our tour begins in Tokyo; from there we immediately transfer to Hokkaido, the most northerly island of Japan, which holds the most remote & only true wilderness in Japan. North of the island, the Shiretoko Peninsula is recognised for its world heritage site status, as the landscapes of dramatic coastline & soaring mountains are stunning, giving you the perfect backdrop to achieve editorial quality images of the wildlife inhabitants. As we travel across the island, you will have the opportunity to photograph a vast selection of Japanese Winter Wildlife, including red-crowned cranes, black-eared kites, whooper swans as well as white-tailed & Steller’s sea eagles as we cruise through drift ice environments which surround the island & across additional feeding sites on the Nemuro Peninsula to the east of the island.
A Trio Of Japanese Cranes In The Mist Rising Off The River At Their Roosting Site Photographed During The Winter Wildlife Of Japan Photography Holiday
We will then move onward to Yudanaka & spend two days at the Jigokudani snow monkey site with the Japanese Macaque, also known as the Snow Monkey, in the mountains, at their thermal spa, as they bathe & feed in the area. We give you the second day here so that you have the chance to fine-tune your photography having become more familiar with the environment & the behaviour of this species. After spending the morning with the snow monkeys of Jigokudani Yaen Koen, we will travel to Lake Yamanaka.
Lake Yamanaka is a new location for 2020, & now the last stop on our Japanese Winter Wildlife photography holiday is Lake Yamanaka; Lake Yamanaka is located in the village of Yamanakako in Yamanashi Prefecture near Mount Fuji, Japan. Lake Yamanaka is the largest of the Fuji Five Lakes in terms of surface area, & is the highest of the Fuji Five Lakes in terms of elevation. Due to its high altitude & its relatively shallow water depth, Lake Yamanaka often freezes completely in the winter.
The view of Mt. Fuji across Lake Yamanaka is breathtaking with the mountain forming its distinctive shape – all making for an iconic image. From mid-October to February, a beautiful phenomenon called Diamond Fuji occurs when the rising or setting sun aligns with the peak of Mt. Fuji, causing Mt. Fuji to shine bright like a diamond, hence its name. Winter is actually the best season to see Mt. Fuji from this location as the weather conditions are more stable & the mountain is covered with snow.
Japan is an extraordinary country, & our Japanese Winter Wildlife photography holiday provides wildlife photographers with unrivalled opportunities to capture uniquely beautiful photographs.
