One Of The Lesser Kestrels From A Large Clony Living In A Derelict Barn Photographed During The Spanish Birds Of The Calera Plains Photography Holiday
Join David on an exciting photography excursion suited to wildlife enthusiasts, photographing the diverse bird species that inhabit the plains of Calera. With a wide selection of comfortable hides throughout the area at our disposal, we will provide you with the best bird photography opportunities possible, capturing them in flight, within their habitats & interacting with one another.
Working from dawn ’til dusk watching this wonderful range of species in action, this is an experience you won’t want to miss!
Join NaturesLens to capture images of owls, kites & other endemic Spanish birdlife, in Spain, during the Spanish Birds of Calera photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 8 night/9 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £2499  £2299 per participant.
We have been capturing images in this region of Spain, using these hides for the past 7 years, & we can honestly say that the range of bird species which thrive in Calera is a sight to behold. From the Little Owl to Black & Griffon Vultures, their characteristics & common behaviours are diverse, but they all live side by side making up a large proportion of the delicate local ecosystem which exists in this region. Birds can provide some of the most exciting wildlife photography opportunities, as their quick, unpredictable behaviour keeps us on our toes & enables captivating movement & in-flight imagery to be captured.
Our 8 night/9 day excursion to Calera offers opportunities to photograph a huge range of native species, including the Bee Eater, Little Owl, Great & Little Bustard, Black & Griffon Vultures, Lesser & Common Kestrel, Hoopoe, & the Black Winged Kite, as well as many others. We offer an all-inclusive accommodation & meal package to ensure that all you need to worry about is taking unique & mesmerising photographs.
Sunrise & sunset are often considered the prime times of day for creative photography, so unlike other holidays & tours, we ensure that our photography sessions make the most of these times of the day. This provides unrivalled exposure to the variety of species & the environment which inhabit this region.
NaturesLens provides 7 days of hide sessions, & on most days you will have the opportunity to use different hides in the morning & afternoon to photograph different species. This trip works on a rotation basis so that each member of the group gets the opportunity to take photographs from a variety of hides. The region is home to a wide range of Iberian Southern European specialities, & we will do our best to tailor your schedule if you make us aware of your target species, photography guidance is provided by David where needed.
The freedom we provide with the times of day for photography is important, as many of these bird species are very wary & cautious around humans, & it may, therefore, be necessary to arrive under the cover of darkness. It will also be advisable to approach slowly, & keep noise at a minimum whilst in the hides so as not to startle the birds, as well as to optimise your chances of photographing the birds whilst they are unaware of your presence.
The weather can vary between different times of day in this region at this time of year, so we advise that you bring layers & prepare for somewhat unpredictable weather conditions.
Join NaturesLens for a wildlife photography holiday you will never forget.
Places are limited, so book today!

2021 – Comical Puffins of Skomer Island Photography Holiday

An Atlantic Puffin Silhouetted On One Of The Headlands Photographed During The NaturesLens Welsh Puffins Of Skomer Island WIldlife Photograhpy Holiday
Join Victoria on wild Skomer, photographing the ‘clowns of the sea’; atlantic puffins, as they thrive within their unspoilt island habitat. We offer keen wildlife photographers the chance to spend 3 nights on the island, making the most of the scenic backdrop & varied light conditions that the island offers.
Over 3 days you will be led by Victoria Hillman a member of the NaturesLens guiding team, navigating the island & using the best viewpoints to capture stunning images to add to your portfolio.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of comical Atlantic puffin, in United Kingdom, during the Comical Puffins of Skomer Island photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 3 night/4 day duration on a Half Board, Shared basis & costs £549 per participant.
Join Victoria on a remote wildlife adventure, getting up close to the atlantic puffin on the wild & unspoilt island of Skomer, where their population thrives. These special birds are considered by many to be a national treasure. Their behaviour & characteristics are hugely inspiring to photograph, such as their short wings that they use to dip & dive underwater, ‘flying’ to catch fish. The large population of puffins has been able to flourish here thanks to minimal disruption of the island environment by humans, as well as the lack of threat from native predators.
For the past 7 years, NaturesLens has been taking photographers to Skomer Island; we have perfected this trip to give individuals the best possible exposure to these island birds, spending hours navigating the few paths which exist on Skomer to capture stunning images of the puffins surrounded by dramatic cliffs & crashing waves. Staying overnight gives you the opportunity to photograph these birds in a wide variety of lighting conditions, & your photography will also benefit from the calm that falls when the day-trippers leave the island. This unrivalled access to the island environment provides opportunities to experiment with light & be more creative with your photography, as well as witness late night visits from Manx Shearwaters.
The island environment & surrounding coastline is home to a wide range of species other than puffins, including razorbills, guillemots, all of whom make their home in the cliffs & headlands which border the island. These contrast with the more sheltered inlets that border the island, which is home to seals & other mammal populations. You will have extensive opportunities to witness these additional species within their rugged & unspoilt island home, whilst maintaining the puffins as the focus of photography excursions.
This trip gives individuals the chance to experience ‘off the grid’ living; to really escape from the modern world, relax, & become immersed within this unique & remote environment.
Spaces are limited so book early to avoid disappointment!
Photographable Species: atlantic puffin, little owl, short-eared owl

Join NaturesLens to capture images of varied African wildlife, in South Africa, during the Zimanga Wildlife Hides & Safaris photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 7 night/8 day duration on a Full Board, Shared basis & costs £2999 per participant.
NaturesLens invites amateur & semi-professional photographers on a wildlife adventure which will take you into the heart of African bushveld territory, photographing a wide range of native species including impressive predators; such as leopards, elephants & cheetahs, as well as magnificent elephants & over 400 bird species. The photography safaris & hide sessions all take place within a pristinely preserved wildlife reserve, which provides the animals with a protected habitat while allowing photographers to come & observe these animals thrive, & capture awe-inspiring images.
The Zimanga wildlife reserve offers 6000 hectares of unspoilt sub-tropical bushveld, fever tree forests & hilly terrain, providing you with opportunities to capture the best images of birds & wildlife alike from every possible angle. The reserve has a huge diversity of South African wildlife including mammals such as black-backed jackal, buffalo, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, hippo, impala, kudu, leopard, lion, nyala, rhino, spotted hyena, waterbuck, wildebeest & zebra; & birds such as babbler, barbet, bee-eater, firefinch, fish eagle, hamerkop, kingfisher, lemon breasted canary, mousebird, plover, Rudd’s Apalis, sandpiper, twinspot, vulture & waxbill. The animals live side by side in an almost self-contained ecosystem, with both predators & prey relying on this environment to survive. This is the first reserve of its kind; one which has been specifically designed for photographers, while allowing the animals to live as naturally as they would in the wild with some added protection.
Our Wildlife Hides & Safaris photography holiday in the Zimanga reserve offers you five traditional game viewing drives from open safari vehicles, with no more than two photographers per row to ensure maximum comfort & access to the best angles for photography. These are not limited to tracks so that off-roading will give you maximum photography opportunities. You will also have at your disposal a range of water-level hides, which are perfectly positioned to capture images of the animals at eye-level. These hides have been created with the photographer in mind, providing the optimum structure & positioning throughout the park.
One way glass means you will be invisible to the animals, enabling you to photograph their entirely natural behaviour within the reserve. You will also benefit from the solar-powered air conditioning & comfortable interiors within the hides; included to make your wildlife experience as comfortable & enjoyable as possible.
Two birdbath hides in the heart of the reserve offer you the opportunity to photograph the wide variety of bird species which inhabit the region, including the pink-throated twinspot, kingfishers, barbets & mousebirds to name a few. But that’s not all. These hides may also give you the opportunity to photograph other visiting species, such as warthog, banded mongoose & monkeys.
A final pair of hides are provided for overnight use which you will use one of each on two nights, providing you with a completely different experience of the reserve, observing a variety of species as they carry out their nighttime activities. The overnight hides are furnished with a kitchenette, flushing toilet, beds & wi-fi to ensure maximum comfort while gaining unrivalled exposure to the wildlife & their behaviours at night.
Accommodation & transfer to & from Durban airport is included within the price of the trip & Pui Hang will provide photography guidance as needed.

A White tailed Eagle perches above the ice cold seas photographed at the locations used for the NaturesLens Winters White tailed Eagles of Norway photography holiday
NaturesLens offer keen wildlife photographers the chance to join Victoria & take opportunities with the White-tailed Sea Eagles of Smøla; Smøla has the highest breeding density in the world for this species; you will spend 5 nights capturing images of the population of this species as they thrive in their picturesque natural habitat, both on land & above the frozen waters that surround the island.

The islands of Hitra & Frøya lie to the northeast, Skardsøya & Ertvågsøya to the southeast, Stabblandet & Tustna to the south, & the open Norwegian Sea to the west & north.

Join NaturesLens to capture images of White-tailed Sea Eagles, in Norway, during the Winter’s White-tailed Sea Eagles of Norway photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 5 night/6 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £2399 per participant.

Our trips fill up quickly to ensure that you book early to avoid missing out!
The white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) is an enormous eagle widely distributed across Eurasia. As are all eagles, it is a member of the family Accipitridae (or accipitrids) which includes other diurnal raptors such as hawks, kites, & harriers. One of up to eleven members in the genus Haliaeetus, which are commonly called sea eagles, it is not infrequently also referred to as the white-tailed sea-eagle.
This trip is best suited to those of you with mid-level to advanced photography skills looking for a new challenge. We pride ourselves in offering something unique to clients in comparison to other trip providers, so we have coordinated this itinerary to allow you to capture these magnificent birds at sunrise & sunset.
Highlights of the trip include alternating days between boat trips on to the frozen waters to photograph the White-tailed Sea Eagles in the best light available as the swoop & dive above the seas, & two days capturing images from a hide offering you the chance to get up close to these magnificent birds & witness their feeding behaviours. Cosy accommodation nearby provides an oasis from the harsh winter conditions. All the details are taken care of for you so that you can relax & enjoy this unique wildlife photography adventure.
The boat trips are conducted on a specially designed boat with sides that can be lowered, this allows for photography just a few centimetres above the water-line; whilst the hide, shown in the photo above, has been sunken into the ground next to an eagle drinking pool with medical-grade clarity glass, heating & a toilet.
Victoria, one of our photography guides, will lead you throughout this photography tour, providing guidance & advice as needed & helping you develop your skills. They will help you capture images of the White-tailed Sea Eagles in wide-angle & close up shots; capturing them in movement while feeding & fighting for fish, interacting with each other or in-flight with the impressive backdrop provided by the sea & surrounding snow-laden landscapes.

Making use of an astonishing network of custom-built hides, which are spread throughout the property, you will be provided with the best bird photography moments possible, capturing birds in flight, within their habitats & interacting with one another.
As usual, our small group size ensures that you have excellent use of the hides, allowing you to capture dramatic images from the best angles, with photography guidance provided by David where needed.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of a truly immense selection of birds found on & around the estate of Laguna del Taray, in Spain, during the Spanish Birdlife of Toledo photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 7 night/8 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £2499 per participant.
A vast landscape, with a superb network of hides, the fantastic range of birdlife that co-exists within the estate of El Taray to be found in the Castile-La Mancha region of Spain, all contribute to an experience not to be missed. This photographic holiday is one which will add many species to your photographic portfolio. From the splendid Goshawks & Harriers to the diminutive lesser kestrels, all living side by side in the local ecosystem, which exists in this region. Castile-La Mancha is the region of Spain within which the action of the famous Spanish novel Don Quixote of Cervantes takes place; it is a symbol of the Spanish culture with sunflowers, windmills & El Quijote.
Our Spanish Birds of Toldeo photography holiday provides you with a week packed with hide sessions, where your photography will benefit from unparalleled access to locations; the hides are situated strategically within the landscape to provide the best opportunity to photograph a stunning range of bird species.
Additionally, you will have at least two hide sessions devoted to the photography of the lesser kestrel colony, from conceivably the best duo of lesser kestrel hides that we have ever seen!
One morning will see you undertake a photography session dedicated to the goshawk, assuming that the species remains present on the estate, & a during the afternoon a further session devoted to photography of the harriers, buzzards & kites.
Two sessions will be devoted to photography from floating hides, these sessions are a lot of fun & allow for unique photos of birds on the water to be captured, however, should this not be for you, we will adjust your itinerary so that this activity is replaced with a different, but equally exciting, hide experience.
In addition, there are hides for little owl, for wading birds where the hides are sunken into the ground, hides for endemic birds at a drinking pool, hides amongst reed beds for bearded reedlings, reed buntings & more – you will be able to make use of all of these during your 7 night Spanish birds photography holiday.
The estate of El Taray is found in the Province of Toledo & the Castile-La Mancha region, in the central part of the country, 100 km south of the capital Madrid.
The NaturesLens Spanish Birds of Toldeo photography holiday is a unique opportunity to photograph some of the estate’s varied & distinct birdlife, including various raptors, many of the indigenous Spanish species, plus of course the lesser kestrel colony &, hopefully, the Goshawk.
The beautiful landscape, filled as far as you can see with olive groves, offers keen wildlife photographers the ideal opportunity for capturing fabulous images of all the birdlife, but within the groves, particularly, we hope the little owl.
We provide full-board accommodation – with this being on the estate itself, this means no travelling in the morning or the evening back to a hotel, plus all the food is catered for the group – a light breakfast before heading to the hides & ending with a meal after the evening photography session, with a lunch in between. Everything is taken care of for you so that experiencing & photographing the species & their environment is all you need to consider.
This trip suits enthusiastic photographers with a passion to experience the magnificent birdlife that Toldeo has to offer; capturing editorial-quality images of a range of bird species to treasure for years to come. Places are minimal to ensure the best experience for every guest, so book early to avoid frustration.
One of the reasons that to date, NaturesLens had not featured the Goshawk on any Spanish photography holiday before this one was that all the locations that we found previously were “live-baited” … none of the species on the Spanish Birds of Toldeo photography holiday is live-baited; consequently, NaturesLens are now delighted to be able to offer Goshawk photography sessions to our clients.
Photographable Species: bearded reedling, bee-eater, black kite, blackbird, cetti's warbler, collared pratincole, common buzzard, common reed warbler, common sandpiper, crested lark, goshawk, great reed warbler, green sandpiper, hoopoe, iberian hare, iberian yellow wagtail, imperial eagle, jackdaw, kentish plover, kingfisher, lapwing, lesser kestrel, little grebe, little owl, magpie, marsh harrier, montagus harrier, moorhen, moustached warbler, nightingale, pallid harrier, pin-tailed sandgrouse, roller, savi's warbler, shelduck, spanish sparrow, spotless starling, starling, stone curlew, stonechat, tit, tits, tree sparrow, water rail, wild rabbit
