2021 – Orcas, Eagles, Whales & Glaciers of Alaska Photography Holiday

Example of the Type of Image That You May Have Opportunities to Capture During the Natureslens Glaciers, Whales, Eagles & Bears of Alaska Photography Holiday
Southern Alaska boasts some of the most beautiful & dramatic scenery to be found in all of North America. This fabulous location is home to a diverse range of wildlife species, in the air, on the land & in the water, all these species thrive in the harsh, dramatic climate & the varied habitat that Alaska offers – this is the amazing setting for our Glaciers, Whales, Eagles & Bears of Alaska Photography Holiday.
Join Ian Roberts on an amazing photography experience, based in the heart of Alaska’s mountainous south. This photography tour includes a week packed with photographic opportunities in the area surrounding Juneau, southern Alaska. You will have the opportunity to capture images of the impressive bald eagle as it feeds at a creek that sees these impressive raptors grabbing salmon from the water, to photograph bears as they fish for salmon, spend time capturing images of humpback whales &, hopefully, orca during 3 days on our exclusively charted boat that takes us far out into the channels that surround Juneau &, finally, spend time travelling to the glaciers & fjords that have carved the mountainous landscape.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of amazing wildlife of Southern Alaska, in United States, during the Orcas, Eagles, Whales & Glaciers of Alaska photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 7 night/8 day duration on a Half Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £4499 per participant.
The wildlife, paired with dramatic snow-tipped mountains, salmon-filled creeks, glacier-fed water channels & more, ensures that there is no other setting & subject pairing for photography quite like this. Throughout the trip, you will have abundant opportunities to capture both “in the environment” & frame-filling images of bald eagle, black bear, brown bear, harbour seal, humpback whale, orca, sea lion.
You will spend 2 separate days – the first early in the week, the second on the final day – cruising down the Tracy Arm Fjord to see Alaska’s greatest combination of mountains, waterfalls, wildlife, glaciers & icebergs. The ice in Tracy Arm interferes with the sonar of whales, so it is the perfect place for hundreds of harbour seals to have their pups in the summer months.
The face of Sawyer Glacier is a little over half a mile wide & is an active tidewater glacier, which means it “calves” or breaks off. Pieces of ice ranging from the size of a small car to a cruise ship can fall off the face of the glacier, hitting the water with a thunderous roar.
The water at the end of the fjord is nearly 600 feet deep & when underwater calving takes place, the ice remains intact, creating Alaska’s largest icebergs. In other glacier areas, the calved ice generally crumbles but not here. Underwater calvings surface like giant submarines that rise over 250 feet & then settle into the water like large, blue ships! The icebergs are framed by sheer mountain peaks that reach over 7,000 feet.
You will also spend 3 days humpback whale watching in seas bordered by towering mountains with hanging glaciers as your backdrop. If you are lucky, you may also see sea lions, eagles & seals. Our exclusive chartered boat is skippered by the best captain in the Juneau area for whale watching. He will be in touch with all the other boats, so you have the most up to date locations of where the action is happening. With just 6 of us on the boat, there will be plenty of room to move around.
Pack Creek is the best place in Southern Alaska to see bears, during one day of the week, you will spend 5-6 hours exploring a half-mile of beach & a meadow where Pack Creek emerges from the mountains & forest to meet the sea, photographing the bears as they hunt, fish & play. This day will start with a scenic flight by floatplane to what is considered to be some of the most prime bear country on earth where dozens of salmon streams help maintain over 1,500 Alaskan brown bears.
The schedule for this trip has been designed to allow you to make the most of the photography opportunities available in the area. You will return with images of the bluest glaciers & the wildlife that lives on & adjacent to these towers of ice. Images of humpback whales &, hopefully, the transient orcas that feast on fish in the area; photographs of the bald eagles as they pounce on the salmon that swim in the cold waters of their creek & of course the bears as they attempt to fish for salmon in Pack Creek.
This is a photography holiday designed by photographers for photographers to ensure that every element of the experience enables you to achieve photographs that you will be proud to add to your portfolio.
Spaces are limited, so be sure to book early to avoid disappointment!

2019 – Welsh Puffins of Skomer Island Photography Holiday

An Atlantic Puffin Silhouetted On One Of The Headlands Photographed During The NaturesLens Welsh Puffins Of Skomer Island WIldlife Photograhpy Holiday
Join Ian & Victoria on wild Skomer, photographing the ‘clowns of the sea’; atlantic puffins, as they thrive within their unspoilt island habitat. We offer keen wildlife photographers the chance to spend 3 nights on the island, making the most of the scenic backdrop & varied light conditions that the island offers.
Over 3 days you will be led by Ian Roberts & Victoria Hillman members of the NaturesLens guiding team, navigating the island & using the best viewpoints to capture stunning images to add to your portfolio.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of the comical Atlantic puffin, in United Kingdom, during the Welsh Puffins of Skomer Island photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 3 night/4 day duration on a Half Board, Shared basis & costs £499 per participant.
Join Ian & Victoria on a remote wildlife adventure, getting up close to the atlantic puffin on the wild & unspoilt island of Skomer, where their population thrives. These special birds are considered by many to be a national treasure. Their behaviour & characteristics are hugely inspiring to photograph, such as their short wings that they use to dip & dive underwater, ‘flying’ to catch fish. The large population of puffins has been able to flourish here thanks to minimal disruption of the island environment by humans, as well as the lack of threat from native predators.
For the past 6 years, NaturesLens has been taking photographers to Skomer Island; we have perfected this trip to give individuals the best possible exposure to these island birds, spending hours navigating the few paths which exist on Skomer to capture stunning images of the puffins surrounded by dramatic cliffs & crashing waves. Staying overnight gives you the opportunity to photograph these birds in a wide variety of lighting conditions, & your photography will also benefit from the calm that falls when the day-trippers leave the island. This unrivalled access to the island environment provides opportunities to experiment with light & be more creative with your photography, as well as witness late night visits from Manx Shearwaters.
The island environment & surrounding coastline is home to a wide range of species other than puffins, including razorbills, guillemots, all of whom make their home in the cliffs & headlands which border the island. These contrast with the more sheltered inlets that border the island, which is home to seals & other mammal populations. You will have extensive opportunities to witness these additional species within their rugged & unspoilt island home, whilst maintaining the puffins as the focus of photography excursions.
We have taken care to make things as simple for you as possible to ensure you enjoy the trip. Therefore we organise the boat to & from the island, plus breakfast & dinner is provided. This trip gives individuals the chance to experience ‘off the grid’ living; to really escape from the modern world, relax, & become immersed within this unique & remote environment.
Spaces are limited so book early to avoid disappointment!

David will help you capture images of the Dalmatian Pelicans in both wide & close up shots; capturing them in movement while feeding & fighting for fish, interacting with each other or in flight with the impressive backdrop provided by the lake & surrounding snow-capped mountains.
Our group numbers are strictly limited to allow for the highest quality experience for everyone involved, & as this photography is seasonal, we can only offer this trip to a small number of lucky individuals each year. Book early to avoid disappointment!
