2022 – Wildlife Hides & Safaris of Kenya Photography Holiday

A group of elephant photographed from a helicopter - photographed at the lodge used for the NaturesLens Wildlife Hides & Safaris of Kenya Photography Holiday
The lodge that is the cornerstone for our Wildlife Hides & Safaris of Kenya photography holiday is family-owned & operates in the heart of the Kenyan wilderness on land responsibly leased from the local Maasai community. It is owned by people who have a love for wildlife & wilderness areas, who wanted to protect it, & then share it with the world.
The conservancy that we will be located in, is 25,000 hectares & shares a border with another conservancy which is 60,000 hectares. The lodge we are using is the ONLY lodge in the area & from there, we will have exclusive access to both conservancies. With such a large area to roam, it is rare to come across any other car on a game drive.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of the wildlife of an exclusive conservancy, in Kenya, during the Wildlife Hides & Safaris of Kenya photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 9 night/10 day duration on a Full Board with Drinks Included, Non-Shared basis & costs £6599 per participant.
The area is a wildlife paradise with impala, dik-dik, kudu, Grants gazelle, giraffe, elephant, lions, leopards, cheetah, aardwolf, striped & spotted hyena, colobus monkey, vervet monkeys, genet, wild cat, bush babies, porcupine, honey badgers & various mongoose. The list does go on with the only significant species you will not find in the conservancy is the rhino.
Birdlife at the lodge is excellent. The lodge has had a guest record of over 110 species of birds in three days whilst in camp from martial eagles, ostrich & secretary birds to greater & lesser flamingo, African spoonbills & pelicans in the lakes to the smaller weavers & sunbirds.
Since we will be staying in a private conservancy, our group will have full rights to drive off the road with no time limits on return to camp, allowing complete freedom to the wilderness at all times.
The neighbouring river is stunning for evening sundowners or just an afternoon with chairs in the river reading a book or watching the wildlife come to drink at various points.
We will be taking trips away from the conservancy to visit the nearby salt lakes, virtually guaranteeing Flamingo photography opportunities & lots of other salt lake birds.
We have also planned to take a trip to a Fig tree forest with huge tree canopies inhabited by Colobus Monkey families.
Unlike other areas around Africa, the night drives are incredibly productive, & because the lodge is located in a generally warmer area, the night drives are undertaken in a comfortable temperature, with guests going out in shorts & not feeling cold, adding a different dynamic to the safari experience.
There will also be the option (at additional cost) to do some aerial photography from a helicopter. There really is nothing is as remarkable as seeing the area from the skies in a helicopter due to the incredible patterns & colours on the nearby lakes. The lakes are like paintings & to appreciate them truly you need to get above them into the skies.
The crowning glory for the lodge, & indeed our Wildlife Hides & Safaris of Kenya photography holiday, is the underground photographic hide located in front of a waterhole. The lodge has had a waterhole in front of the camp from inception & the photographic hide has recently undergone some upgrades to make it even more comfortable. This hide will be used throughout the week for both day & night photography sessions.
The waterhole & underground photographic hide comprises of a 20 foot, air-conditioned container, complete with bar, fridge, library & wine rack! A lot of thought has gone into it, including carpeting the floors for soundproofing noise. The external lights can be controlled individually from within the hide, the lip of the waterhole has been remodelled to look natural as has the approach so that photographers can see the entire animal as it approaches & drinks from the pool. Being air-conditioned, it is very comfortable for photography, but also just for sitting & watching animals in the comfort of camp.
During the dry season, the hide is guaranteed daily action with visits from large herds of zebra, impala, vervet monkeys & baboon troops in the mornings & afternoons.
On almost every evening, the waterhole is active with guests having dinner & experiencing everything from lion, spotted & striped hyena, buffalo, aardwolf, leopard, giraffe, genets, & even on the auspicious occasion – porcupine! cheetah has been spotted at the waterhole during the late afternoon however this is rare & more commonly found on the plains. During 2020, wild dog have infrequently been observed coming through the area but this occurrence is becoming more frequent.
The waterhole & hide are the high point of this Kenyan photographic experience in our opinion. It is an experience that requires patience to camp out in the hide & wait, but the results are worth it when the animals do visit. The best part about this 8-night trip is that you will have 4 nights overlooking the waterhole from the hide!
Our Wildlife Hides & Safaris of Kenya photography holiday is an opportunity to undertake a genuinely exclusive experience, in an exclusive conservancy & lodge. Our trip is inclusive of a well-stocked bar, with top-shelf vodkas, gins, whiskies, rums, wines etc. all included in the rate.

The photography safaris & hide sessions all take place within a pristinely preserved wildlife reserve, which provides the animals with a protected habitat while allowing photographers to come & observe these animals thrive, & capture awe-inspiring images.
The Zimanga wildlife reserve offers 6000 hectares of unspoilt sub-tropical bushveld, fever tree forests & hilly terrain, providing you with opportunities to capture the best images of birds & wildlife alike from every possible angle. The reserve has a huge diversity of South African wildlife including mammals such as black-backed jackal, buffalo, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, hippo, impala, kudu, leopard, lion, nyala, rhino, spotted hyena, waterbuck, wildebeest & zebra; & birds such as babbler, barbet, bee-eater, firefinch, fish eagle, hamerkop, kingfisher, lemon breasted canary, mousebird, plover, Rudd’s Apalis, sandpiper, twinspot, vulture & waxbill. You will also benefit from the solar-powered air conditioning & comfortable interiors within the hides; included to make your wildlife experience as comfortable & enjoyable as possible.
Two birdbath hides in the heart of the reserve offer you the opportunity to photograph the wide variety of bird species which inhabit the region, including the pink-throated twinspot, kingfishers, barbets & mousebirds to name a few. But that’s not all. These hides may also give you the opportunity to photograph other visiting species, such as warthog, banded mongoose & monkeys.
A final pair of hides are provided for night photography sessions. which you will use one of each on two nights, providing you with a completely different experience of the reserve, observing a variety of species as they carry out their nighttime activities. The overnight hides are furnished with a kitchenette, flushing toilet, beds & wi-fi to ensure maximum comfort while gaining unrivalled exposure to the wildlife & their behaviours at night.

2023 – Wildlife of Namibia’s Waterholes Photography Holiday

NaturesLens offers keen wildlife photographers the chance to capture images of the impressive wildlife of Etosha National Park, you will be photographing the wildlife of this massive area as they thrive in their natural habitat; the waterholes offer the area’s best opportunities for both large & small game sightings.
Etosha National Park is home to some of the most common & at the same time some of the rarest wildlife species. Etosha means “place of dry water” & refers to a flat pan of about 5000 square kilometres which can be seen from space!
Join NaturesLens to capture images of Wildlife of Namibia, in Namibia, during the Wildlife of Namibia’s Waterholes photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 8 night/9 day duration on a Full Board with Drinks Included, Non-Shared basis & costs £4249 per participant.
The massive pan, that makes up Etosha National Park, provides a stunning, parched, silver-white backdrop of shimmering mirages to an area of semi-arid grassland & large camel thorn trees mixed with Mopani trees.
The park boasts numerous waterholes, including both natural springs & fountains & others fed by human-made boreholes. During the dry winters, the wildlife relies on these waterholes scattered throughout the park, so sightings are far more reliable than anywhere else in Africa. Extensive treks of zebra & springbok can be seen mingling with oryx & bathing elephants at the larger waterholes. If we are lucky, we may even see rhino, elephant & lion drinking from the same pools.
Four of the Big Five can be seen amongst the Wildlife of Namibia within Etosha National Park. The areas with thicker vegetation are home to elephants, black rhino & even leopard. The lions are camouflaged in the pale-golden colour of the savannah.
The fleet-footed cheetah, rare black-faced impala, hyena, jackal, bat-eared fox, warthog & giraffe are just some of the other species that can be found here.
We will stay in an intimate tented camp that is a study in contrasts. Textures such as stone, suede, linen & steel have been used to create a setting that is sleek & modern but also inherently of the earth. All the tents are situated around a busy waterhole, where the wildlife come to quench their thirst directly in front of your tent.
The surrounding nature lends itself to long lazy afternoons spent relaxing on the sofas in the lounge watching the wildlife go by. When things heat up, cool down in the sparkling rim-flow swimming pool.
With a stunning main building & just seven luxury tents with en-suite bathrooms providing private, exclusive accommodation for our guests, coupled with the warmest of hospitality, sumptuous meals & first-class guides, this is the perfect trip for photographers wishing to capture images of the wildlife of Namibia.
The activities will be a mixture of traditional safari game drives & use of their fabulous water-level hide which has been placed in front of a waterhole offering a pretty impressive viewpoint & some fantastic photography of the wildlife of Namibia that comes to visit.

2022 – Africa’s Big Five of the Timbavati Photography Holiday

A hippo in a waterhole within the Timbavati Reserve the type of image that you will be able to capture during the NaturesLens Africas Big Five of the Timbavati Photography Holiday
The Timbavati Game Reserve was formed in the 1950s when a group of conservation-minded private game park owners decided to pool their resources for their mutual benefit & that of the wildlife in the area. The individual farms were joined to form a wilderness area that is today privately owned by 48 individual members.
The reserve is situated on the Western boundary of the Kruger National Park & lies between the Klaserie, Umbabat, Manyeleti & Sabi Sands Reserves. The fences separating Timbavati from the Kruger National Park were removed to form a pristine wilderness area of approximately four million hectares.
Our base for this 8 night South African wildlife adventure is a beautiful, classic African safari camp, situated in the heart of the Timbavati, offering our guests a vast sanctuary of more than 10,000 ha of the unspoilt African wilderness.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of Africa's Big Five, in South Africa, during the Africa’s Big Five of the Timbavati photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 8 night/9 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £3999  £3499 per participant.
Our itinerary is designed to offer you the best wildlife photography opportunities when the African light is at its very best. The morning game drives will commence at dawn when the wildlife are at their most active. The evening safaris will leave in the late afternoon to take advantage of the warm African light. At some point, you will stop for “sundowner” drinks in the middle of the bush before continuing with your night safari.
The local guides are expert rangers who will keep you informed & entertained with their extensive knowledge of all the animals, including Africa’s Big Five, everything large & small & flora found in the reserve. These rangers are also highly skilled trackers who will go out of their way to bring you closer to nature.
There will be opportunities to have close encounters with some of Africa’s Big Five, plus giraffes & zebra, providing you with an impressive portfolio of wildlife images.
Upon your return to camp, you will be treated to pre-dinner drinks in a traditional boma around the fire, followed by a delicious dinner either in the candle-lit dining room or out in the open riverbed surrounded by flares & cauldron fires.
Experience the real magic of Africa in this South African photography holiday, offering intimate & thrilling wildlife encounters & a chance to reconnect with nature in one of Africa’s world-renowned, unspoilt wilderness reserves.
For photographic direction, David & Pui Hang will be on hand, leading the trip & spending time in the vehicles to ensure that you get the most from this holiday.

The animals live side by side in an almost self-contained ecosystem, with both predators & prey relying on this environment to survive. This is the first reserve of its kind; one which has been specifically designed for photographers, while allowing the animals to live as naturally as they would in the wild with some added protection.
Our Wildlife Hides & Safaris photography holiday in the Zimanga reserve offers you five traditional game viewing drives from open safari vehicles, with no more than two photographers per row to ensure maximum comfort & access to the best angles for photography. These are not limited to tracks so that off-roading will give you maximum photography opportunities. You will also have at your disposal a range of water-level hides, which are perfectly positioned to capture images of the animals at eye-level. These hides have been created with the photographer in mind, providing the optimum structure & positioning throughout the park.
One way glass means you will be invisible to the animals, enabling you to photograph their entirely natural behaviour within the reserve.
Accommodation & transfer to & from Durban airport is included within the price of the trip & Pui Hang & David will provide photography guidance as needed.

2022 – African Wildlife of the Maasai Mara Photography Holiday

201703 Kenya 6734 Arnfinn Johansen
NaturesLens is proud to offer keen wildlife photographers the chance to join David & Pui Hang & take opportunities with the fabulous & diverse wildlife of Africa’s Maasai Mara. Here you will find lions, leopards & cheetahs & all the other iconic animals of Africa like elephants, buffalos, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, hyenas, jackals, warthogs, baboons, zebras, wildebeest & other antelopes such as Thompson’s gazelles, impalas, grants & topis – among many other species.  The black rhino is more tricky, but can sometimes be spotted in the Mara Triangle & if you are lucky, you may even see the serval cat. The Maasai Mara is also super-rich with birdlife including eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, vultures, kingfishers, cranes, hornbills, the Secretary bird, ostrich, to name but a few.
The Maasai Mara National Reserve is an area of preserved savannah wilderness in southwestern Kenya, along the Tanzanian border. It is one of the best parks for big cats, but sightings of smaller predators like bat-eared fox, black-backed jackal & spotted hyena are also rewarding.
We have designed an all-encompassing 10 night photography experience, ensuring that splendid safaris & comfortable accommodation are organised for you to ensure that you can focus on making the most of opportunities to capture editorial quality images.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of wildlife of the Maasai Mara, in Kenya, during the African Wildlife of the Maasai Mara photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 10 night/11 day duration on a Full Board, Shared basis & costs £6599 per participant.
Our base is located within a genuine Maasai village, where you will also have the unique opportunity to experience the Maasai people’s traditional & famous culture. This will give you the extraordinary chance to get to know the proud Maasai people & their culture from the inside. Their hospitality is great – when you arrive, the children come running to greet you; Jambo!
Our drivers & naturalists are highly skilled & respected. More importantly, they understand what it means to work with professional & demanding wildlife photographers, & always work hard to give you the best opportunities to get your shots whether it is from inside the car, or from the ground or on foot – from the early mornings to the late evenings. They are exceptionally good in finding animals, reading what will happen & positioning the vehicle optimally for photography.
Our base, an eco safari camp, is located in Mara North Conservancy, just five minutes’ drive to the border of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Accommodation is offered in spacious safari tents furnished with en-suite bathroom including shower, washbasin & flush toilet. There is also a dining tent where the camp’s chef & staff will serve us with delicious food. In the dining tent, we will also be able to charge camera batteries, phones & computers.
Breakfast & lunch will be taken on the game drives so that you can enjoy full day safaris with picnic breakfast & picnic lunch on the open savannah, in the shade under a tree or by the Mara or Talek rivers overlooking hippos & crocodiles.
The full-day safaris mean you will be out before sunrise & until after sunset, photographing in the very best light. There will also be opportunities to photograph from outside the car on foot or from the ground. Driving off road is also possible, subject to the appropriate licences being obtained.
This trip is best suited to those of you with mid-level to advanced photography skills looking for a new challenge. We pride ourselves in offering something unique to clients in comparison to other trip providers, so we have arranged for the game drives to be carried out in safari vehicles which have been specially modified for wildlife photography.
The safari vehicles, based on 4WD Toyota Landcruiser Long Edition, have been modified for the purpose of giving the best working conditions for photographers. They allow you to stay low & get strong & powerful low-angle shots of the wildlife, shooting both ways from the vehicle. They have no back doors, & the floor is extended to 180 cm in width & covered with a soft rubber mat making it comfortable to lie on. Also, the wide-open sides with shallow window frames, no bars & no glass are very convenient for panning & action photography. The vehicles have a pop-up roof, so shooting from the roof, for instance, birds, a leopard in a tree or a cheetah hunting is very convenient. The pop-up roof also provides shade from the sun. Last but by no means least, the cars also have 4-6 power outlets for charging cameras, phones, laptops etc. on the go.
We will have exclusive use of these vehicles & with our driver/guides, we can go where we like, stop & have the car positioned as we like, waiting for as long as we like & be in the right place in the early mornings, catching the sunrise, or wait for the right moment & the best light in the evenings. What’s more bean-bags will be provided.
David & Pui Hang, cofounders of NaturesLens, will lead you throughout this photography tour, providing guidance & advice as needed & helping you develop your skills. They will help you capture images of the diverse wildlife in both wide-angle & close up shots; capturing them in motion or static, interacting with each other or with other species all with the impressive backdrop provided by the African landscape.
Photographable Species: african elephant, cheetah, giraffe, hippo, hyena, leopard, lion, vulture, wildebeest, zebra
