Our holiday in the Scottish Highlands combines rolling hills & epic scenery with classic wildlife & the promise of warming food after a long day behind the lens – what could be more perfect? Explore the ancient Caledonian pine forest & the quintessential moorland before ascending to the high tops of the mountains. From the forest floor to the soaring peaks, the most beautiful scenes of Scottish wildlife await.
You will be collected from
Inverness Airport if you are flying in, or
train station if travelling by rail & taken to the hotel that we are making use of; with each guest having their single occupancy room – unless you are part of a photographic couple – & warming food at the end of each day, this is the ideal base for the week.
The surrounding nature lends itself to days of photography both within the area known as the Black Isle & further afield. The holiday
itinerary will be driven by James & you, the guests. The first full day of photography will be spent capturing squirrel images. After that, the trip itinerary will be set daily, taking advantage of the conditions. For example, if the next day will be picturesque for the mountain hares, that is what James will suggest the group undertakes.
You will be transferred from location to location using transport that we provide unless you wish to provide your own for social distancing purposes.
Our Wildlife of the Scottish Highlands holiday takes in fabulous mammals such as the cheeky red squirrel, confiding mountain hare, majestic red deer & birds such as red grouse, ptarmigan & the punk rocker of the bird world, the crested tit. This wintry tour of the Scottish Highlands allows you an extraordinary glimpse of some of the country’s unique & beautiful wildlife.
Whilst we hope for snowy conditions, we cannot promise this. In recent years, temperatures have varied between spring-like one-day & a snowy gale the next. We will, of course, send a comprehensive trip briefing pack to each participant, stating what you will need to take with you.
In addition to the standard requirements of suitable clothing, camera, tripod & other requirements,
should social distancing requirements still be in place, we will require you to have a supply of masks & hand sanitiser, plus James will take temperatures using a
contact-less thermometer each morning.
These measures are in place to ensure the safety of the entire group.
