Throughout this wildlife photography holiday, we hope to be able to photograph Iberian Lynx, Red Deer, Red-legged Partridge, Iberian Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Sardinian Warbler, Robin, Crested Tit, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Hawfinch, Rock Bunting, Dunnock & more besides.
The highlight though is the possibility of spotting the elusive Iberian lynx – the world’s rarest cat.
As well as 4×4 safaris
, we will make use of hides that have been established within the areas. One hide is located by a waterhole & species which have been photographed here include Iberian Lynx, Red Deer, Red-legged Partridge, Iberian Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Sardinian Warbler, Robin, Crested Tit, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Hawfinch, Rock Bunting, Dunnock plus more. Another hide has been placed for birds of prey & the lynx. Species which have been photographed at this hide include Northern Goshawk, Common Buzzard, Griffon Vulture, Black Vulture, Spanish Imperial Eagle & of course, the Iberian Lynx.
This wildlife photography holiday is perfect for photographers who wish to photograph one of the rarest cats in the world, the Iberian lynx. The typically small guest group size ensures that we have the best chance for encounters
with this elusive cat. In addition to the hides, during the 4×4 safaris, we also search for the Iberian lynx both on public & private land.
Thanks to colossal conservation efforts, the Iberian Lynx is back from the edge of extinction
; however, only 900 individuals exist in the wild, the bulk of these are concentrated in the rugged & unspoilt regions of Southern Spain.
The Iberian Lynx is about twice as big as a large house cat, its hind legs are slightly longer than the front legs. The tail is short & has a black tip. The brown fur typically is made up of many tones.
Please do be aware that the Iberian Lynx is a rare & shy animal so quiet & patience is required. The chance of success is estimated to be reasonable but not in any way guaranteed.
For this reason, our itinerary will be flexible with regards to the hide sessions & 4 x 4 safaris to give you the best chance of success.
All participants must be aware that these animals are timid & do not show themselves for long.
All that said, if you manage to photograph the Iberian Lynx, then this will be amongst the top wildlife encounters that you can experience & one that you will never forget because the Iberian lynx is genuinely, in our opinion, the most beautiful & rarest cat on our planet.
