2022 – Birdlife of Texas Photography Holiday

An image typical of those that will be captured at the Laguna Seca Ranch during the NaturesLens Birdlife of the Rio Grande Valley Photography Holiday
Join David in the Rio Grande Valley, one of the premier areas in North America to view & capture images of the wildlife. The format of this 8 night trip will be to make use of three of the best ranches in the Rio Grande area, to enable you to get some stunning images of mammals, raptors & other birds that can be photographed from the hides.
As a bonus, for at least two of the days, we will be guided by Hector D. Astorga, who will be on hand to ensure that we make the best use of the photographic opportunities available to us.
The Rio Grande Valley is a well known hot spot for a large variety of bird species, some of which are unique to this area.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of the fantastic birdlife of Texas, in United States, during the Birdlife of Texas photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 8 night/9 day duration on a Half Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £3999  £3749 per participant.
The three ranches which we will make use of are:
Laguna Seca Ranch with their collection of elevated & ground level hides for photographing songbirds & raptors. The ranch is comprised of 700 acres of pristine brushland with hides that have been designed with photographers & their needs in mind. All the hides are located near water holes or areas where there are no trees within at least 100 feet, thereby ensuring perfect backgrounds.
Martin Refuge is located in 300-acre thick South Texan brush, rich with tremendous biodiversity of birds, mammals & reptiles. The hides have been professionally designed & are set back from small water holes, close to feeding areas to allow you to capture the wildlife as they wander in for refreshments. Some of the hides here have been sunk into the ground which gives you a perfect eye-level view of your subject, which, of course, is key to a great wildlife image. The Martin Refuge boasts some of the best raptor photography experiences, especially if you are hoping to add images of Crested Caracara & Harris Hawk to your portfolio.
Santa Clara Ranch is a 300-acre parcel of native South Texan brush where the wildlife roams freely, thanks to a conservation easement which prevents hunting & ensures that the native brush will remain untouched in perpetuity at the ranch. Water features & feeding stations have been placed throughout the property to attract wildlife which can be photographed from low-level & elevated hides positioned to optimise morning & afternoon light. The elevated hides are dedicated to raptor photography & in the past, have exceeded expectations with numerous raptors coming to perch just 35-40 feet away!
The price includes all ground transportation within Texas, comfortable accommodation on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis, all photography activities at the ranches, with the split being 3 days at Santa Clara Ranch, 2 at Laguna Seca Ranch, & 2 at Martin Refuge, plus guidance from our local guide, who is himself an accomplished & recognised Texan wildlife photographer.
Photographable Species: american kestrel, black vulture, cooper's hawk, crested caracara, golden-fronted woodpecker, great horned owl, green jay, harris hawk, indigo snake, leopard frog, oriole, painted bunting, red-tailed hawk, texas tortoise, thrasher, turkey vulture, western diamondback rattlesnake, white-tailed hawk

2022 – Greek Macro Wildlife of Kerkini Photography Holiday

Balkan Spoon Winged Lacewing photographed at the locations used for the NaturesLens Macro Wildlife of Kerkini Photography Holiday
For the past 6 years, NaturesLens has taken guests to Lake Kerkini to photograph the Dalmatian Pelicans during the winter months; in 2019, we added a new photography tour, to photograph the birds of the lake & it’s environs during spring, when new life & young birds were on the lake; for 2020, we are pleased to invite guests for a week of amazing macro photography – join Iordan for the Greek Macro Wildlife Of Kerkini photography holiday, which will offer fantastic photo opportunities as you venture in & around the surrounding lakes, mountains & meadows.
Lake Kerkini, in the Northeast of Greece close to the border with Bulgaria, is one of those scarce places in Europe where you can get up close to nature & bird life. Kerkini & the surrounding areas are wetlands like no other you have ever experienced before; the wetlands are home to a vast number of birds species, many of which have a status of endangered.
Since this photography tour is all about macro photography, you will find the amphibians, reptiles, insects & flowers to be incredible, with 100’s of varieties, for example, of moths & dragonflies.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of Macro Wildlife of Kerkini, in Greece, during the Greek Macro Wildlife of Kerkini photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 7 night/8 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £1999 per participant.
The area we will visit is rich in various habitats within a relatively small area, making it an excellent location for discovering this unique ecosystem. The habitats which are ours to explore are home to a wide variety of flora & fauna; therefore, a wide range of different & exciting macro possibilities will be on offer.
Our hotel is close to Lake Kerkini but nestled against the Belasitsa Mountains which provides a stunning backdrop. This hotel offers the perfect home for our week of photography, additionally allowing us to set up specific areas for evening moth photography. Finally, our view over the lake & back to the mountains will provide us with, conditions allowing, a stunning vista for at one or more evenings of Astrophotography.
Iordan will be on hand to advise on how to capture intimate & captivating portraits of frogs, toads, lizards, moths, butterflies, insects, flowers & other invertebrates in their natural habitats. Iordan will be available to provide tuition & guidance for all levels, including the basics of macro photography, working with both light panels & natural light & composing your macro shots.

2022 – Spanish Birds of Calera Photography Holiday

One Of The Lesser Kestrels From A Large Clony Living In A Derelict Barn Photographed During The Spanish Birds Of The Calera Plains Photography Holiday
Join Dan Trim on an exciting photography excursion suited to wildlife enthusiasts, photographing the diverse bird species that inhabit the plains of Calera. With a wide selection of comfortable hides throughout the area at our disposal, we will provide you with the best bird photography opportunities possible, capturing them in flight, within their habitats & interacting with one another.
Working from dawn ’til dusk watching this wonderful range of species in action, this is an experience you won’t want to miss!
Join NaturesLens to capture images of owls, kites & other endemic Spanish birdlife, in Spain, during the Spanish Birds of Calera photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 8 night/9 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £2499 per participant.
We have been capturing images in this region of Spain, using these hides for the past 8 years, & we can honestly say that the range of bird species which thrive in Calera is a sight to behold. From the Little Owl to Black & Griffon Vultures, their characteristics & common behaviours are diverse, but they all live side by side making up a large proportion of the delicate local ecosystem which exists in this region. Birds can provide some of the most exciting wildlife photography opportunities, as their quick, unpredictable behaviour keeps us on our toes & enables captivating movement & in-flight imagery to be captured.
Our 8 night/9 day excursion to Calera offers opportunities to photograph a huge range of native species, including the Bee Eater, Little Owl, Great & Little Bustard, Black & Griffon Vultures, Lesser & Common Kestrel, Hoopoe, & the Black Winged Kite, as well as many others. We offer an all-inclusive accommodation & meal package to ensure that all you need to worry about is taking unique & mesmerising photographs.
Sunrise & sunset are often considered the prime times of day for creative photography, so unlike other holidays & tours, we ensure that our photography sessions make the most of these times of the day. This provides unrivalled exposure to the variety of species & the environment which inhabit this region.
NaturesLens provides 7 days of hide sessions, & on most days you will have the opportunity to use different hides in the morning & afternoon to photograph different species. This trip works on a rotation basis so that each member of the group gets the opportunity to take photographs from a variety of hides. The region is home to a wide range of Iberian Southern European specialities, & we will do our best to tailor your schedule if you make us aware of your target species, photography guidance is provided by Dan where needed.
The freedom we provide with the times of day for photography is important, as many of these bird species are very wary & cautious around humans, & it may, therefore, be necessary to arrive under the cover of darkness. It will also be advisable to approach slowly, & keep noise at a minimum whilst in the hides so as not to startle the birds, as well as to optimise your chances of photographing the birds whilst they are unaware of your presence.
The weather can vary between different times of day in this region at this time of year, so we advise that you bring layers & prepare for somewhat unpredictable weather conditions.
Join NaturesLens for a wildlife photography holiday you will never forget.
Places are limited, so book today!

Join Pui Hang for this five-day trip which will take place in the Catalonia region in north-east Spain & will focus on that region’s most emblematic species, the Bearded Vultures (Lammergeier) & Golden Eagle.
You will have the opportunity to photograph Lammergeiers feeding on the ground & in flight, with the spectacular mountains of the Pre-Pyrenees as your backdrop. The Lammergeier is a rare & magnificent bird that is in decline throughout most of its ancient European habitats. The 90 Lammergeier territories in the French & Spanish Pyrenees represents more than 75% of the total European population of this extraordinary bird.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of Lammergeier & Golden Eagle, in Spain, during the Spanish Golden Eagle & Lammergeier photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 4 night/5 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £1899 per participant.
Using a series of hides, you will have the chance to photograph up to 20 different individuals, in their natural habitat.
In this magnificent location, the Lammergeiers are the kings of the mountain.
The hides have been designed by professional photographers to take advantage of the best light & the best backgrounds. They are located at a height of approximately 1400 m in the Pre-Pyrenees near Lleida in Catalonia. Large, one-way windows enable you to capture stunning images of the Bearded Vultures (Lammergeier) & other scavengers as they perch on the ground & in flight.
The hides can accommodate up to a maximum of three photographers. There is a chemical WC & a folding bed for those rare moments when nothing is going on. The windows can be opened from the inside & cleaned should it rain (although you should pull down the blind first in order not to scare the birds). There are also shelves & hangers for storing bags, lenses & other pieces of equipment.
Accommodation is provided in a rural hotel located just a short walking distance from the hides.
During these three days of intensive photography, it will be possible to photograph the eight different plumages presented by the Bearded Vulture & obtain images of more than 20 different individuals.

This photography holiday is of 14 night/15 day duration on a Half Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £6499  £5999 per participant.
Join David & Ian to travel deep into stunning snow-covered landscapes, capturing beautiful images of wildlife which thrives during harsher seasons in Japan. Our group will travel throughout several different regions, including the mountainous area around Yudanaka in central Japan, & north of the mainland to the island of Hokkaido, giving you an insight into the variety of landscapes & wildlife which exists throughout the country, made even more photogenic by dramatic winter conditions.
Our trip offers enthusiastic wildlife photographers the opportunity to rise early for two dawn visits to the famous red-crowned crane roosting sites of the Tsurui region of Hokkaido; spend two days at the Akan red-crowned crane feeding centre; & spend two days observing the beautiful whooper swans which inhabit Lake Kussharo, a frozen caldera lake in the eastern region of Hokkaido.
Not only this, but our trip is unique in offering six boat trips on the drift ice of the Nemuro Strait to photograph Hokkaido’s fabulous Steller’s sea & white-tailed eagle populations as they fly, feed, dive for fish & fight over scraps. These excursions will give you unique access to the native wildlife at each location, providing ample opportunity to obtain incredible images.
Our tour begins in Tokyo; from there we immediately transfer to Hokkaido, the most northerly island of Japan, which holds the most remote & only true wilderness in Japan. North of the island, the Shiretoko Peninsula is recognised for its world heritage site status, as the landscapes of dramatic coastline & soaring mountains are stunning, giving you the perfect backdrop to achieve editorial quality images of the wildlife inhabitants. As we travel across the island, you will have the opportunity to photograph a vast selection of Japanese Winter Wildlife, including red-crowned cranes, black-eared kites, whooper swans as well as white-tailed & Steller’s sea eagles as we cruise through drift ice environments which surround the island & across additional feeding sites on the Nemuro Peninsula to the east of the island.
We will then move onward to Yudanaka & spend two days at the Jigokudani snow monkey site with the Japanese Macaque, also known as the Snow Monkey, in the mountains, at their thermal spa, as they bathe & feed in the area. We give you the second day here so that you have the chance to fine-tune your photography having become more familiar with the environment & the behaviour of this species. After spending the morning with the snow monkeys of Jigokudani Yaen Koen, we will travel to Yamanakako. Our final location is on the shores of  Lake Yamanaka; the view of Mt. Fuji from the lake is breathtaking & has a distinctive shape – making for an iconic image to complete your Japanese Winter Wildlife photography holiday.
Japan is an extraordinary country, & our Japanese Winter Wildlife photography holiday provides wildlife photographers with unrivaled opportunities to capture uniquely beautiful photographs.
In order to present the best photographic opportunities the majority of locations that we make use of throughout this photography holiday are rural or remote in nature, as such food is often based on seafood & is traditional Japanese in style – westernised menus are frequently not available – if you wish to discuss this further prior to booking please contact us.
Group size is limited to between 4 & 6 participants, this is due to the nature of the photography excursions & the type of hotel that we prefer to make use of, so booking early is essential.
