A thriving hub of avian predator life, the various eagle & raptor species co-exist in Sierra de San Pedro, Spain, facilitating stunning action shots as different sizes, species & colours fill the air. From the splendid Bonelli’s Eagle to the diminutive lesser kestrels, all living side by side in the local ecosystem, which exists in this region.
Our Eagles of Extremadura photography holiday provides you with a week packed with hide sessions, where your photography will benefit from unique access to locations; the hides are placed strategically within the landscape to provide an optimum opportunity to photograph a stunning range of bird species. Additionally, you will have two hide sessions dedicated to the photography of the Bonelli’s Eagle, a session dedicated to Golden Eagle photography & a further session dedicated to photography of the other raptors of the estate, such as Buzzards, Red & Black Kites. Places are highly limited to ensure the best experience for every guest, so book early to avoid disappointment.
One of the reasons that to date, NaturesLens had not featured the Bonelli’s Eagle on our photography holidays before this one was that all the locations that we found previously were “live-baited” … none of the species on the Eagles of Extremadura photography holiday is live-baited, hence NaturesLens now being happy to offer this species to our clients.

2022 – Birdlife of Texas Photography Holiday

An image typical of those that will be captured at the Laguna Seca Ranch during the NaturesLens Birdlife of the Rio Grande Valley Photography Holiday
Join David in the Rio Grande Valley, one of the premier areas in North America to view & capture images of the wildlife. The format of this 9 night trip will be to make use of three of the best ranches in the Rio Grande area, to enable you to get some stunning images of mammals, raptors & other birds that can be photographed from the hides.
As a bonus, for at least two of the days, we will be guided by Hector D. Astorga, who will be on hand to ensure that we make the best use of the photographic opportunities available to us.
The Rio Grande Valley is a well known hot spot for a large variety of bird species, some of which are unique to this area.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of the fantastic birdlife of Texas, in United States, during the Birdlife of Texas photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 9 night/10 day duration on a Half Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £4249  £3999 per participant.
The three ranches which we will make use of are:
Laguna Seca Ranch with their collection of elevated & ground level hides for photographing songbirds & raptors. The ranch is comprised of 700 acres of pristine brushland with hides that have been designed with photographers & their needs in mind. All the hides are located near water holes or areas where there are no trees within at least 100 feet, thereby ensuring perfect backgrounds.
Martin Refuge is located in 300-acre thick South Texan brush, rich with tremendous biodiversity of birds, mammals & reptiles. The hides have been professionally designed & are set back from small water holes, close to feeding areas to allow you to capture the wildlife as they wander in for refreshments. Some of the hides here have been sunk into the ground which gives you a perfect eye-level view of your subject, which, of course, is key to a great wildlife image. The Martin Refuge boasts some of the best raptor photography experiences, especially if you are hoping to add images of Crested Caracara & Harris Hawk to your portfolio.
Santa Clara Ranch is a 300-acre parcel of native South Texan brush where the wildlife roams freely, thanks to a conservation easement which prevents hunting & ensures that the native brush will remain untouched in perpetuity at the ranch. Water features & feeding stations have been placed throughout the property to attract wildlife which can be photographed from low-level & elevated hides positioned to optimise morning & afternoon light. The elevated hides are dedicated to raptor photography & in the past, have exceeded expectations with numerous raptors coming to perch just 35-40 feet away!
The price includes all ground transportation within Texas, comfortable accommodation on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis, all photography activities at the ranches, with the split being 3 days at Santa Clara Ranch, 2 at Laguna Seca Ranch, & 2 at Martin Refuge, plus guidance from our local guide, who is himself an accomplished & recognised Texan wildlife photographer.
Photographable Species: american kestrel, black vulture, cooper's hawk, crested caracara, golden-fronted woodpecker, great horned owl, green jay, harris hawk, indigo snake, leopard frog, oriole, painted bunting, red-tailed hawk, texas tortoise, thrasher, turkey vulture, western diamondback rattlesnake, white-tailed hawk

2022 – Spanish Birds of Calera Photography Holiday

One Of The Lesser Kestrels From A Large Clony Living In A Derelict Barn Photographed During The Spanish Birds Of The Calera Plains Photography Holiday
Join Dan Trim on an exciting photography excursion suited to wildlife enthusiasts, photographing the diverse bird species that inhabit the plains of Calera. With a wide selection of comfortable hides throughout the area at our disposal, we will provide you with the best bird photography opportunities possible, capturing them in flight, within their habitats & interacting with one another.
Working from dawn ’til dusk watching this wonderful range of species in action, this is an experience you won’t want to miss!
Join NaturesLens to capture images of owls, kites & other endemic Spanish birdlife, in Spain, during the Spanish Birds of Calera photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 8 night/9 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £2499  £2249 per participant.
We have been capturing images in this region of Spain, using these hides for the past 8 years, & we can honestly say that the range of bird species which thrive in Calera is a sight to behold. From the Little Owl to Black & Griffon Vultures, their characteristics & common behaviours are diverse, but they all live side by side making up a large proportion of the delicate local ecosystem which exists in this region. Birds can provide some of the most exciting wildlife photography opportunities, as their quick, unpredictable behaviour keeps us on our toes & enables captivating movement & in-flight imagery to be captured.
Our 8 night/9 day excursion to Calera offers opportunities to photograph a huge range of native species, including the Bee Eater, Little Owl, Great & Little Bustard, Black & Griffon Vultures, Lesser & Common Kestrel, Hoopoe, & the Black Winged Kite, as well as many others. We offer an all-inclusive accommodation & meal package to ensure that all you need to worry about is taking unique & mesmerising photographs.
Sunrise & sunset are often considered the prime times of day for creative photography, so unlike other holidays & tours, we ensure that our photography sessions make the most of these times of the day. This provides unrivalled exposure to the variety of species & the environment which inhabit this region.
NaturesLens provides 7 days of hide sessions, & on most days you will have the opportunity to use different hides in the morning & afternoon to photograph different species. This trip works on a rotation basis so that each member of the group gets the opportunity to take photographs from a variety of hides. The region is home to a wide range of Iberian Southern European specialities, & we will do our best to tailor your schedule if you make us aware of your target species, photography guidance is provided by Dan where needed.
The freedom we provide with the times of day for photography is important, as many of these bird species are very wary & cautious around humans, & it may, therefore, be necessary to arrive under the cover of darkness. It will also be advisable to approach slowly, & keep noise at a minimum whilst in the hides so as not to startle the birds, as well as to optimise your chances of photographing the birds whilst they are unaware of your presence.
The weather can vary between different times of day in this region at this time of year, so we advise that you bring layers & prepare for somewhat unpredictable weather conditions.
Join NaturesLens for a wildlife photography holiday you will never forget.
Places are limited, so book today!

2022 – Spring Birds of Lake Kerkini Photography Holiday

One Of The Squacco Herons Of Lake Kerkini Keeps A Wary Eye Out Photographed During The NaturesLens Spring Birds Of Lake Kerkini Photography Holiday
Lake Kerkini, in northern Greece, is a location already familiar to both the guests & guides of NaturesLens. Since 2013, Lake Kerkini has been the venue for our incredibly popular Dalmatian Pelicans photography holidays. Our new 6-day long Spring Birds of Lake Kerkini photography holiday leverages all that we have learnt about the area but visits the location during late-Spring, when the bird-life is prolific & new-life is occurring both on the lake & in the surrounding environs. Our tour is based at the same hotel close to the lake that we make use of for the winter visits, so we already know that the food & accommodation will be great. Similar to our winter visits, the rare Dalmatian & the more common White Pelican are to be found on the lake, but for this tour, our focus shifts to the impressive selection of nesting waterbirds on the lake, & also those in the lake-side environment, including hoopoe, little owl, bee-eater & more.
The Spring Birds of Lake Kerkini photography holiday begins with the group assembling at Thessaloniki Airport. You will be collected by our hosts & transferred to our super lakeside hotel which has real character. Based just 500m from the lake, you will stay here for 5 nights. Our tour includes full-board accommodation & meals are served in the superb restaurant, with specialities including oven-baked buffalo garnished with noodles or buffalo meatballs!
Join NaturesLens to capture images of Spring Birds & other wildlife of Lake Kerkini, in Greece, during the Spring Birds of Lake Kerkini photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 5 night/6 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £1749 per participant.
Over the next 4 days, you will be in a prime location with the best facilities to fully explore & capture images within this wetland paradise. Each morning, before sunrise, you will head out to the lake on a boat, during this time you will capture images of the multitude of waterbirds that make their homes within the waterside vegetation. In other areas of the lake, drowned trees reach skywards forming perches for cormorants & other bird-life that are happy to watch you as you drift by.
The bulk of afternoons will see the group split into pairs. We will have had hides set-up for a number of species, including, hopefully, bee-eaters, hoopoe & little owl, although this may change according to species availability. However, one afternoon will be spent on the boat until beyond sunset, hopefully capturing silhouette images of the birds against a suitably-coloured sky.
The Spring Birds of Lake Kerkini photography holiday suits keen photographers with a desire to experience the magnificent wildlife that this unique wetland has to offer; you will be able to capture editorial-quality images of a range of bird species that you will be proud to add to your portfolio. Places are highly limited to ensure the best experience for every guest, so book early to avoid disappointment.

You will have the opportunity to photograph Lammergeiers feeding on the ground & in flight, with the spectacular mountains of the Pre-Pyrenees as your backdrop. The Lammergeier is a rare & magnificent bird that is in decline throughout most of its ancient European habitats. The 90 Lammergeier territories in the French & Spanish Pyrenees represents more than 75% of the total European population of this extraordinary bird.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of Lammergeier & Golden Eagle, in Spain, during the Spanish Golden Eagle & Lammergeier photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 4 night/5 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £1899 per participant.
Using a series of hides, you will have the chance to photograph up to 20 different individuals, in their natural habitat.
In this magnificent location, the Lammergeiers are the kings of the mountain.
The hides have been designed by professional photographers to take advantage of the best light & the best backgrounds. They are located at a height of approximately 1400 m in the Pre-Pyrenees near Lleida in Catalonia. Large, one-way windows enable you to capture stunning images of the Bearded Vultures (Lammergeier) & other scavengers as they perch on the ground & in flight.
The hides can accommodate up to a maximum of three photographers. There is a chemical WC & a folding bed for those rare moments when nothing is going on. The windows can be opened from the inside & cleaned should it rain (although you should pull down the blind first in order not to scare the birds). There are also shelves & hangers for storing bags, lenses & other pieces of equipment.
Accommodation is provided in a rural hotel located just a short walking distance from the hides.
During these three days of intensive photography, it will be possible to photograph the eight different plumages presented by the Bearded Vulture & obtain images of more than 20 different individuals.

2022 – Central Spain’s Eagles & Raptors Photography Holiday

A Golden Eagle calling from a tree branch photographed at the locations used for the NaturesLens Central Spain’s Eagles Raptors photography holiday
Spend a week with nature capturing images of Central Spain’s Eagles & Raptors. The week will be spent in the areas surrounding Segovia, a historic city northwest of Madrid, less than 90 minutes from Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport. During this week our small group of photographers, lead by David will take opportunities in hides positioned to capture images of the Golden Eagle, the Spanish Imperial Eagle, Black Kite, Common Buzzard, Egyptian Vulture, Griffon Vulture, Red Kite, Azure-winged Magpie & more.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of Spain's Eagles & Raptors, in Spain, during the Central Spain’s Eagles & Raptors photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 7 night/8 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £2499 per participant.
Your time will be split into a stay in Cantalejo where our main photography targets will include Golden Eagles, Red & Black Kites, the Common Buzzard, Egyptian & Griffon Vultures. Following that a stay for the remaining 3 nights of the trip in El Escorial where we will be photographing the Red & Black Kites, the Common Buzzard, Egyptian & Griffon Vultures but the highlight of this area will be the Spanish Imperial Eagle. The bulk of the eagle and raptor activity occurs during the mornings, some afternoons will be dedicated to passerine, little owl & bee-eater photography sessions.
Sunrise & sunset are often considered the prime times of day for creative photography, so unlike other holidays & tours, we ensure that our photography sessions make the most of these times of the day. This provides unrivalled exposure to the variety of species & the environment which inhabit this region.
Our trip is based on a basis of single room occupancy on a full-board basis, with all in trip transportation included from Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport & back. The weather can vary between different times of day in this region at this time of year, so we advise that you bring layers & prepare for somewhat unpredictable weather conditions.
Places are limited, so book today! This trip is ideal to pair with the Eagles of Extremadura photography holiday – thereby making this into a two-week tour in Spain.
