2021 – Spanish Golden Eagle & Lammergeier Photography Holiday

One of the Lammergeier poses on a rocky outcrop on the mountainside captured at the locations used for the Natureslens Lammergeier Golden Eagle Photography Holiday
Join Pui Hang for this five-day trip which will take place in the Catalonia region in north-east Spain & will focus on that region’s most emblematic species, the Bearded Vultures (Lammergeier) & Golden Eagle.
You will have the opportunity to photograph Lammergeiers feeding on the ground & in flight, with the spectacular mountains of the Pre-Pyrenees as your backdrop. The Lammergeier is a rare & magnificent bird that is in decline throughout most of its ancient European habitats. The 90 Lammergeier territories in the French & Spanish Pyrenees represents more than 75% of the total European population of this extraordinary bird.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of Lammergeier & Golden Eagle, in Spain, during the Spanish Golden Eagle & Lammergeier photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 4 night/5 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £1899 per participant.
Using a series of hides, you will have the chance to photograph up to 20 different individuals, in their natural habitat.
In this magnificent location, the Lammergeiers are the kings of the mountain.
The hides have been designed by professional photographers to take advantage of the best light & the best backgrounds. They are located at a height of approximately 1400 m in the Pre-Pyrenees near Lleida in Catalonia. Large, one-way windows enable you to capture stunning images of the Bearded Vultures (Lammergeier) & other scavengers as they perch on the ground & in flight.
The hides can accommodate up to a maximum of three photographers. There is a chemical WC & a folding bed for those rare moments when nothing is going on. The windows can be opened from the inside & cleaned should it rain (although you should pull down the blind first in order not to scare the birds). There are also shelves & hangers for storing bags, lenses & other pieces of equipment.
Accommodation is provided in a rural hotel located just a short walking distance from the hides.
During these three days of intensive photography, it will be possible to photograph the eight different plumages presented by the Bearded Vulture & obtain images of more than 20 different individuals.
Join NaturesLens for a wildlife photography holiday you will never forget.

2023 – Winter Wildlife of Japan Photography Holiday

Stellars Sea Eagle in flight
NaturesLens invites you to spend this 14 night/15 day tour travelling throughout the wonderfully diverse landscapes of Japan, specifically Central Honshu & Northern Hokkaido, getting up close to a wide range of native species which thrive in harsh winter conditions. Our Japanese Winter Wildlife photography holiday, which we have been leading for the last 7 years, covers a variety of areas, providing you with unique opportunities to undertake wildlife photography of the highest quality.
Guided by David & Ian, you will visit Central Honshu & Northern Hokkaido & gain an insight into the variety of landscapes & wildlife which exists throughout the country, made even more photogenic by dramatic winter conditions. The photographic opportunities on our Japanese Winter Wildlife photography tour are always without parallel – with opportunities to photograph the red-crowned cranes, Steller’s sea eagles, white-tailed sea eagle, whooper swans, & of course, the Snow Monkeys, during this photography holiday.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of the red-crowned cranes, Steller's sea eagles, white-tailed sea eagle, whooper swans, & the Snow Monkeys, in Japan, during the Winter Wildlife of Japan photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 14 night/15 day duration on a Half Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £6499  £5999 per participant.
Join David & Ian to travel deep into stunning snow-covered landscapes, capturing beautiful images of wildlife which thrives during harsher seasons in Japan. Our group will travel throughout several different regions, including the mountainous area around Yudanaka in central Japan, & north of the mainland to the island of Hokkaido, giving you an insight into the variety of landscapes & wildlife which exists throughout the country, made even more photogenic by dramatic winter conditions.
Our trip offers enthusiastic wildlife photographers the opportunity to rise early for two dawn visits to the famous red-crowned crane roosting sites of the Tsurui region of Hokkaido; spend two days at the Akan red-crowned crane feeding centre; & spend two days observing the beautiful whooper swans which inhabit Lake Kussharo, a frozen caldera lake in the eastern region of Hokkaido.
Not only this, but our trip is unique in offering six boat trips on the drift ice of the Nemuro Strait to photograph Hokkaido’s fabulous Steller’s sea & white-tailed eagle populations as they fly, feed, dive for fish & fight over scraps. These excursions will give you unique access to the native wildlife at each location, providing ample opportunity to obtain incredible images.
Our tour begins in Tokyo; from there we immediately transfer to Hokkaido, the most northerly island of Japan, which holds the most remote & only true wilderness in Japan. North of the island, the Shiretoko Peninsula is recognised for its world heritage site status, as the landscapes of dramatic coastline & soaring mountains are stunning, giving you the perfect backdrop to achieve editorial quality images of the wildlife inhabitants. As we travel across the island, you will have the opportunity to photograph a vast selection of Japanese Winter Wildlife, including red-crowned cranes, black-eared kites, whooper swans as well as white-tailed & Steller’s sea eagles as we cruise through drift ice environments which surround the island & across additional feeding sites on the Nemuro Peninsula to the east of the island.
We will then move onward to Yudanaka & spend two days at the Jigokudani snow monkey site with the Japanese Macaque, also known as the Snow Monkey, in the mountains, at their thermal spa, as they bathe & feed in the area. We give you the second day here so that you have the chance to fine-tune your photography having become more familiar with the environment & the behaviour of this species. After spending the morning with the snow monkeys of Jigokudani Yaen Koen, we will travel to Yamanakako. Our final location is on the shores of  Lake Yamanaka; the view of Mt. Fuji from the lake is breathtaking & has a distinctive shape – making for an iconic image to complete your Japanese Winter Wildlife photography holiday.
Japan is an extraordinary country, & our Japanese Winter Wildlife photography holiday provides wildlife photographers with unrivaled opportunities to capture uniquely beautiful photographs.
In order to present the best photographic opportunities the majority of locations that we make use of throughout this photography holiday are rural or remote in nature, as such food is often based on seafood & is traditional Japanese in style – westernised menus are frequently not available – if you wish to discuss this further prior to booking please contact us.
Group size is limited to between 4 & 6 participants, this is due to the nature of the photography excursions & the type of hotel that we prefer to make use of, so booking early is essential.

2021 – Winter Wildlife of Calera Photography Holiday

One of the magnificent Spanish Eagles perched on a fallen tree at the Valley Hide - photographed in the same hides & locations used for the NaturesLens Winter Wildlife of Calera Photography Holiday
Now on our calendar for the last 7 years, 2021 will see a new wildlife photography trip to capture images of the wildlife of the area of Calera y Chozas. Calera y Chozas is a municipality located in the province of Toledo, Castile-La Mancha, Spain, which we visit due to a great network of hides which has been established in the area. Our new photography trip to photograph the winter wildlife of Calera takes place during in December when the temperatures are lower & some of the species more prolific!
This will be a tour of seven days duration, including six nights full-board accommodation in a small but local hotel, with 5 full days of photography of the species that are in the area at this time of year – all against the backdrop of the – hopefully – snow-covered Gredos Mountains!
Join NaturesLens to capture images of the species that make up the Winter Wildlife of Calera, in Spain, during the Winter Wildlife of Calera photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 6 night/7 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £1699  £1549 per participant.
For one of the days during the week, you will spend an entire day in a hide which is dedicated to capturing images of the regal Spanish Imperial Eagle. This session will last from approximately 9 am until 4 pm.
For another day, you will spend a whole day in a hide which is dedicated to capturing images of marsh harriers, buzzards & kites, plus the occasional visit from another Imperial Eagle, the various species that frequent this hide often fight amongst themselves making for dramatic images – this session will last from approximately 9 am until 3 pm.
A third day will see you spend a day in the valley hide which is dedicated to capturing images of the Egyptian Mongoose & Kites, both Black & Red, plus the occasional visit from larger raptors such as the Golden & Imperial Eagles, the various species that frequent this hide often fight amongst themselves making for dramatic images – this session will last from approximately 8:30 am until 3:30 pm.
A further day will be split, with the morning spent in the black vultures hide which is dedicated to capturing images of the Black & Griffon plus Kites, both Black & Red, after lunch, your photography will be focussed on smaller birds at drinking pools & feeding locations.
The fifth day will see both sessions dedicated to photography of the Northern Goshawk, with both morning & afternoon sessions devoted to photographic opportunities with this impressive species of raptor.
There are options, however, these will be discussed during the first evening & we will try to accommodate requests.
If three people wish to substitute in a day for photographing Spanish Ibex in the mountains, this can be accommodated, there is a degree of fitness required for this, it is of moderate difficulty.
If Red Partridge is in the area, we will accommodate photography of these within the schedule where possible.
If activity at the European Cranes location is good, then this will also be discussed & we will accommodate photography of these within the schedule where possible.
We have been taking guests to capture images in this region of Spain, using these hides for the past 7 years, & we can honestly say that the range of bird species which thrive in Calera is a sight to behold – the addition of a winter trip to capture images of the winter wildlife of Calera should provide a view on the species of this area very different to that found during the Spring visit!
Our package offers a full-board accommodation & meal package, with airport transfers included, to ensure that all you need to worry about is taking unique & mesmerising photographs.
Photographable Species: black kite, black vulture, buzzard, egyptian mongoose, european crane, golden eagle, griffon vulture, ibex, imperial eagle, marsh harrier, red kite, red partridge

2021 – Wildlife of the Scottish Highlands Photography Holiday

Scotland is home to some of the most loved of our British wildlife species, particularly the Highlands; many classic images have been captured of red squirrels in their habitat or posed on tree-stumps, red deer looking regal in the glens, mountain hare on the mountainsides, ptarmigan striding purposefully & more besides.
For 2021, we have put in place a new holiday to capture images of the fabulous wildlife of the Scottish Highlands; running Sunday to Sunday, you will have six full days of photography led by James Roddie, who is guiding this holiday for us. As the owner of Black Isle Nature Photography & a well-known photographer himself, we are delighted to have James joining us.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of Wildlife of the Scottish Highlands, in United Kingdom, during the Wildlife of the Scottish Highlands photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 7 night/8 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £1749 per participant.
Our holiday in the Scottish Highlands combines rolling hills & epic scenery with classic wildlife & the promise of warming food after a long day behind the lens – what could be more perfect? Explore the ancient Caledonian pine forest & the quintessential moorland before ascending to the high tops of the mountains. From the forest floor to the soaring peaks, the most beautiful scenes of Scottish wildlife await.
You will be collected from Inverness Airport if you are flying in, or train station if travelling by rail & taken to the hotel that we are making use of; with each guest having their single occupancy room – unless you are part of a photographic couple – & warming food at the end of each day, this is the ideal base for the week.
The surrounding nature lends itself to days of photography both within the area known as the Black Isle & further afield. The trip itinerary will be driven by James & you, the guests. The first full day of photography will be spent capturing squirrel images. After that, the tour itinerary will be set daily, taking advantage of the conditions. For example, if the next day will be picturesque for the mountain hares, that is what James will suggest the group undertakes.
You will be transferred from location to location using transport that we provide unless you wish to provide your own for social distancing purposes.
Our Wildlife of the Scottish Highlands trip takes in fabulous mammals such as the cheeky red squirrel, confiding mountain hare, majestic red deer & birds such as red grouse, ptarmigan & the punk rocker of the bird world, the crested tit. This wintry holiday in the Scottish Highlands allows you an extraordinary glimpse of some of the country’s unique & beautiful wildlife.
Whilst we hope for snowy conditions, we cannot promise this. In recent years, temperatures have varied between spring-like one-day & a snowy gale the next. We will, of course, send a comprehensive trip briefing pack to each participant, stating what you will need to take with you.
In addition to the standard requirements of suitable clothing, camera, tripod & other requirements, current circumstances will require you to have a supply of masks & hand sanitiser, plus James will be taking temperatures using a contact-less thermometer each morning. These measures are in place to ensure the safety of the entire group.
Photographable Species: crested tit, mountain hare, ptarmigan, red deer, red grouse, red squirrel

2022 – Pumas of Patagonia Photography Holiday

A female puma with cub photographed in the Torres del Paine National Park the location for the NAturesLens Pumas of Patagonia Photography Holiday
Join David & Pui Hang on a tour which includes seven full days of Puma tracking & spotting of the Pumas of Patagonia; we will use full days in the Torres del Paine National Park to really maximise our chances of not just encounters, but special ones too. We will be doing this in vehicles & sometimes on foot, in different parts of the area but utilising the services of our trackers who work with pumas throughout the year, so our chances are good. Once we have discovered an individual or family, it will be possible to return to them on an on-going basis.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of Pumas of Patagonia, in Chile, during the Pumas of Patagonia photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 10 night/11 day duration on a Full Board, Shared basis & costs £8499  £6999 per participant.
NaturesLens invites wildlife photography enthusiasts on a tour to Patagonia; Patagonia is one of the world’s top wildlife destinations to experience real wildness & also some dramatic wildlife photography. Located between rich subpolar forests & the vast Patagonian steppes, the backbone of the park is the Paine mountain range, with the famous & much-photographed Cuernos (horns) del Paine as its centrepiece. This 2,100 m massive granite formation rises abruptly over the surrounding plains, providing a unique & extremely photogenic backdrop.
Our primary focus on this holiday is very much on the resident puma (also known as cougar & mountain lion) population of Torres del Paine National Park & its surrounding areas. We will be working with the local trackers involved in the National Geographic coverage of these magnificent animals. Some of the population are amazingly tolerant to people, so close encounters, while we are on foot, are a genuine possibility. We have deliberately chosen to visit early in the season because there less traffic in the park & on the ranch & the pumas are a bit more active during the day, which always helps with the photography! Also, if we are lucky, we may have the opportunity to photograph them in the last snows as winter turns to spring.
With glacial forest & stunning mountain landscapes never far away, guanacos, condors, flamingos, grey foxes & torrent ducks among many other species that we may well come across, this is a genuinely fantastic opportunity to experience the very best that this dramatic corner of South America has to offer at a particularly exciting time of the year.

Our photography will take place in the area surrounding the Laguna Amarga, where we are one of the few selected operators allowed to work inside the property & search for puma along the grounds of this magnificent private area, adjacent to the park & now, entirely committed to Puma conservation. This allows us the freedom to hop out of our 4×4 vehicles to walk off trail to get closer to where the pumas have been spotted.

Finding a wild puma in such beautiful surroundings, on foot, with no physical barrier between you & the cat, is one of the most exhilarating experiences to be had anywhere in the world.

The normal cost is £8499 for the itinerary proposed, however at the launch offer price, we are able to slice £1500 off that cost, subject to us being able to pay deposits over – this is for seven full days of puma spotting, which is more days than most comparable trips.

For the launch of our new Pumas of Patagonia Photography Trip, we are requiring a £1500 deposit to hold a place. As with all our tours, this is a small group only; just 4 guest photographers plus a plentiful supply of guides & spotters!
Don’t forget, there is a saving of £1500 per person if we can fill this trip in the next few months!
Photographable Species: andean condor, guanaco, lesser rhea, puma
