2021 – Wildlife of the Scottish Highlands Photography Holiday

Scotland is home to some of the most loved of our British wildlife species, particularly the Highlands; many classic images have been captured of red squirrels in their habitat or posed on tree-stumps, red deer looking regal in the glens, mountain hare on the mountainsides, ptarmigan striding purposefully & more besides.
For 2021, we have put in place a new trip to capture images of the fabulous wildlife of the Scottish Highlands; running Sunday to Sunday, you will have six full days of photography led by James Roddie, who is guiding this tour for us. As the owner of Black Isle Nature Photography & a well-known photographer himself, we are delighted to have James joining us.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of Wildlife of the Scottish Highlands, in United Kingdom, during the Wildlife of the Scottish Highlands photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 7 night/8 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £1749 per participant.
Our holiday in the Scottish Highlands combines rolling hills & epic scenery with classic wildlife & the promise of warming food after a long day behind the lens – what could be more perfect? Explore the ancient Caledonian pine forest & the quintessential moorland before ascending to the high tops of the mountains. From the forest floor to the soaring peaks, the most beautiful scenes of Scottish wildlife await.
You will be collected from Inverness Airport if you are flying in, or train station if travelling by rail & taken to the hotel that we are making use of; with each guest having their single occupancy room – unless you are part of a photographic couple – & warming food at the end of each day, this is the ideal base for the week.
The surrounding nature lends itself to days of photography both within the area known as the Black Isle & further afield. The holiday itinerary will be driven by James & you, the guests. The first full day of photography will be spent capturing squirrel images. After that, the trip itinerary will be set daily, taking advantage of the conditions. For example, if the next day will be picturesque for the mountain hares, that is what James will suggest the group undertakes.
You will be transferred from location to location using transport that we provide unless you wish to provide your own for social distancing purposes.
Our Wildlife of the Scottish Highlands trip takes in fabulous mammals such as the cheeky red squirrel, confiding mountain hare, majestic red deer & birds such as red grouse, ptarmigan & the punk rocker of the bird world, the crested tit. This wintry holiday in the Scottish Highlands allows you an extraordinary glimpse of some of the country’s unique & beautiful wildlife.
Whilst we hope for snowy conditions, we cannot promise this. In recent years, temperatures have varied between spring-like one-day & a snowy gale the next. We will, of course, send a comprehensive tour briefing pack to each participant, stating what you will need to take with you.
In addition to the standard requirements of suitable clothing, camera, tripod & other requirements, current circumstances will require you to have a supply of masks & hand sanitiser, plus James will be taking temperatures using a contact-less thermometer each morning. These measures are in place to ensure the safety of the entire group.
Photographable Species: crested tit, mountain hare, ptarmigan, red deer, red grouse, red squirrel

2022 – Pumas of Patagonia Photography Holiday

A female puma with cub photographed in the Torres del Paine National Park the location for the NAturesLens Pumas of Patagonia Photography Holiday
Join David & Pui Hang on a holiday which includes seven full days of Puma tracking & spotting of the Pumas of Patagonia; we will use full days in the Torres del Paine National Park to really maximise our chances of not just encounters, but special ones too. We will be doing this in vehicles & sometimes on foot, in different parts of the area but utilising the services of our trackers who work with pumas throughout the year, so our chances are good. Once we have discovered an individual or family, it will be possible to return to them on an on-going basis.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of Pumas of Patagonia, in Chile, during the Pumas of Patagonia photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 10 night/11 day duration on a Full Board, Shared basis & costs £8499  £7499 per participant.
NaturesLens invites wildlife photography enthusiasts on a trip to Patagonia; Patagonia is one of the world’s top wildlife destinations to experience real wildness & also some dramatic wildlife photography. Located between rich subpolar forests & the vast Patagonian steppes, the backbone of the park is the Paine mountain range, with the famous & much-photographed Cuernos (horns) del Paine as its centrepiece. This 2,100 m massive granite formation rises abruptly over the surrounding plains, providing a unique & extremely photogenic backdrop.
Our primary focus on this tour is very much on the resident puma (also known as cougar & mountain lion) population of Torres del Paine National Park & its surrounding areas. We will be working with the local trackers involved in the National Geographic coverage of these magnificent animals. Some of the population are amazingly tolerant to people, so close encounters, while we are on foot, are a genuine possibility. We have deliberately chosen to visit early in the season because there less traffic in the park & on the ranch & the pumas are a bit more active during the day, which always helps with the photography! Also, if we are lucky, we may have the opportunity to photograph them in the last snows as winter turns to spring.
With glacial forest & stunning mountain landscapes never far away, guanacos, condors, flamingos, grey foxes & torrent ducks among many other species that we may well come across, this is a genuinely fantastic opportunity to experience the very best that this dramatic corner of South America has to offer at a particularly exciting time of the year.

Our photography will take place in the area surrounding the Laguna Amarga, where we are one of the few selected operators allowed to work inside the property & search for puma along the grounds of this magnificent private area, adjacent to the park & now, entirely committed to Puma conservation. This allows us the freedom to hop out of our 4×4 vehicles to walk off trail to get closer to where the pumas have been spotted.

Finding a wild puma in such beautiful surroundings, on foot, with no physical barrier between you & the cat, is one of the most exhilarating experiences to be had anywhere in the world.

The normal cost is £8499 for the itinerary proposed, however at the launch offer price, we are able to slice £1500 off that cost, subject to us being able to pay deposits over – this is for seven full days of puma spotting, which is more days than most comparable trips.

For the launch of our new Pumas of Patagonia Photography Holiday, we are requiring a £1500 deposit to hold a place. As with all our tours, this is a small group only; just 4 guest photographers plus a plentiful supply of guides & spotters!
Don’t forget, there is a saving of £1000 per person if we can fill this trip in the next few months!
Photographable Species: andean condor, guanaco, lesser rhea, puma

Join NaturesLens to capture images of the charismatic Dalmatian Pelicans on Lake Kerkini, in Greece, during the Dalmatian Pelicans of Greece photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 5 night/6 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £1499 per participant.
For the past 6 years, NaturesLens has been taking photographers to Lake Kerkini; in 2019, join David, one of the co-founders of NaturesLens, for a unique wildlife experience, getting up close & personal with the beautiful prehistoric bird that is the Dalmatian Pelican; capturing them on camera within their natural habitat of beautiful Lake Kerkini in northern Greece. This trip encompasses four full days spent getting to know this unique landscape, offering extensive opportunities to photograph these incredible birds, as well as neighbouring wildlife such as the Pygmy Cormorant & the majestic Greater Flamingo.
The Dalmatian Pelican is, by a small margin, the largest of the Pelican species, as well as one of the largest living bird species on earth. These magnificent birds have been in decline in recent years, partly due to habitat destruction on the part of us humans, but thankfully the population at Kerkini has prevailed & still thrives within this perfect haven.
This trip is best suited to those of you with mid-level to advanced photography skills looking for a new challenge. We pride ourselves in offering something special to clients in comparison to other trip providers, so we have coordinated this itinerary to allow you to capture these magnificent birds at sunrise & sunset.
Highlights of the trip include four boat trips on to the lake on consecutive days, four shoreline feeds offering you the chance to get up close to these magnificent birds & witness their feeding behaviours, & cosy accommodation in a nearby hotel as an oasis from the harsh winter conditions. All the details are taken care of for you so that you can relax & enjoy this unique wildlife photography adventure.
You will be on the lake before the sun comes up to see the Pelicans at first light, & after the morning’s activities, will break for a warming lunch as a much-needed break from the cold, discussing what the rest of the day will hold. As a group you will then embark on an afternoon of further exciting photography opportunities, remaining on the shoreline of the lake through to early evening to make the most of the changing light conditions. When the day comes to an end, you will return to the comfort of the hotel to relax in front of a roaring fire, freshen up & discuss your achievements from the day.
David, one of our photography guides, will lead you throughout this photography tour, providing guidance & advice as needed & helping you develop your skills. They will help you shoot these birds in wide & close up shots; capturing them in movement while feeding & fighting for fish, interacting with each other or in flight with the impressive backdrop provided by the lake & surrounding snow-capped mountains.
Our group numbers are strictly limited to allow for the highest quality experience for everyone involved, & as this photography is seasonal, we can only offer this trip to a small number of lucky individuals each year. Book early to avoid disappointment!

The spectacular bird sanctuary, which is the focus of this wildlife photography tour, has its own historical story. The Maharaja of Bharatpur is credited with its creation in 1850, although conservation was the last thing on his mind. It was a tradition to shoot many ducks in the lake of the reserve in the honour of the British viceroys. In 1938, over 4273 birds including mallards & teals were killed by Lord Linlithgrow, the then Governor-General of India.
In 1965, the government banned the indiscriminate shooting of birds in Bharatpur & by 1982, the area was deemed a national park. Three years later, Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary was designated a World Heritage Site.
Close to 380 species have been spotted at Bharatpur Sanctuary, making it one of the most inviting destinations in the world for ornithologists, amateurs & nature lovers. These species fly from distant places like Siberia & Central Asia specifically in winter. Migratory birds at Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary include several species of Cranes, Pelicans, Geese, Ducks, Eagles, Hawks, Shanks, Stints, Wagtails, Warblers, Wheatears, Flycatchers, Buntings, Larks & Pipits.
Bharatpur is an ideal host for so many bird species because of its strategic location to attract migratory waterfowl in the Indian subcontinent before dispersing to various regions. In addition, the wetland is a wintering area for massive congregations of waterfowl. It is the only regular wintering area in India for the critically endangered Siberian Crane. Apart from Feredunkenar in Iran, Bharatpur Sanctuary is the only place where the Siberian crane migrates. The cranes arrive in December & stay until early March.
This bird paradise also hosts mammalian species such as nilgai, samha, chital, blackbucks, jungle cat & wild boar. The large rock python (which can be spotted at Python Point beyond Keoladeo temple) as well as its nemesis, the mongoose.
Photographable Species: bar headed geese, barn owl, black neck stork, blackbuck, brahmini duck, brown fish owl, brown hawk-owl, chital, cinereous vulture, collared scops owl, common pochard, common teal, coot, dusky eagle-owl, egyptian vulture, eurasian eagle-owl, eurasian griffon, fishing cat, gadwall, greylag, jungle cat, leopard, long-billed vulture, mottled wood-owl, nilgai, northern shoveller, openbill stork, oriental scops owl, painted stork, pallas's fishing-eagle, pintail, red-headed vulture, sambar, short-eared owl, spotted owlet, tufted duck, white eyed pochard, white-rumped vulture, white-tailed eagle, widgeon, wild boar, woolly-necked stork

As usual, our small group size ensures that you have excellent use of the hides, allowing you to capture dramatic images from the best angles, with photography guidance provided by Ian where needed.
A picturesque landscape, with a superb network of hides, the fantastic range of birdlife that co-exists within the estate of El Taray which is found in the Castile-La Mancha region of Spain, all contribute to an experience not to be missed. As a counter to our summer holiday, which includes a vast number of species, this winter photographic holiday is one which will add some specialist species to any photographers portfolio.
During several days in January 2019, David captured images of Harriers, Bonelli’s Eagles, Goshawks, Buzzards & Kites, all living side by side in the local ecosystem. Also, dependent upon weather, there is the opportunity for crane photography on a magnificent pool with a dedicated hide or starling photography, from within a hide actually within the murmuration.
Our Winter Birds of Toledo photography holiday provides you with 4 1/2 days packed with photography sessions, where your photography will benefit from unparalleled access to locations; the hides are situated strategically within this beautiful landscape to provide the best opportunity to photograph a stunning range of bird species.
We provide full-board accommodation – with this being on the estate itself, this means no travelling in the morning or the evening back to a hotel, plus all the food is catered for the group – a light breakfast before heading to the hides & ending with a meal after the evening photography session, with a lunch in between. Everything is taken care of for you so that experiencing & photographing the species & their environment is all you need to consider.
This trip suits enthusiastic photographers with a passion to experience the magnificent birdlife that the winter months on the estate surrounding Laguna del Taray offers; capturing editorial-quality images of a range of bird species to treasure for years to come.
Places are minimal to ensure the best experience for every guest, so book early to avoid frustration.
Photographable Species: bearded reedlings, bonellis eagle, buzzard, common kestrel, european crane, golden eagle, goshawk, hen harrier, iberian grey shrike, imperial eagle, little owl, marsh harriers, red kite, spanish sparrow, starling
