  • Keen wildlife photographers of all experience levels are invited to join Nick & Ian for this seven-night photography holiday on the Isle of Mull in Scotland. You will spend a packed seven-night trip capturing images of Mull’s Wildlife in Spring.
Over the duration of this trip, the locations should provide you with opportunities to capture images of Mull’s wildlife, with a particular focus upon the Atlantic Puffin, Eurasian Otters & the White-tailed Sea Eagle.
The seven-night photography holiday has an itinerary designed to present opportunities to capture images of the wildlife that makes Mull such a special island to spend time upon – in addition to the main species; there should be opportunities throughout the week for other species, including Hen Harrier, Short Eared Owl, Golden Eagle, Stonechat, Wheatear, Buzzard, Heron, Red Deer & Corncrake.
During one day of the holiday, accompanied by Nick or Ian, you will take a boat tour to the Treshnish Isles & land on the idyllic Isle of Lunga, the largest of the islands that make up the Treshnish Isles. Surrounded by wildflowers & stunning scenery, the main attraction you will be able to photograph is the large Puffin colony nesting in burrows in the grassy hill; these comical birds are inquisitive & will come within a few metres of you. Lunga is also a habitat to ever-increasing colonies of Guillemot, Razorbill, Kittiwake, Fulmar, Shag, Great Skua & Seals.
After spending up to 6 hours ashore exploring the Isle of Lunga, you will leave Lunga & take the brief 15-minute crossing to the geological spectacle of Staffa, ending in a visit to the world-famous Fingal’s Cave.
Before heading back to Mull, you may have opportunities to observe the White-tailed sea Eagle nest & experience the beautiful surroundings of Coll, Tiree, Calgary beach, Ardnamurchan Lighthouse & the fantastic small isles to the North & perhaps, an opportunity to sight some of Mull’s iconic marine mammals.
Two further morning tours will see you board Lady Jayne with Mull Charters, the only operator on Mull to offer specialised White-tailed Sea Eagle photography trips. Mull Charters work within the RSPB’s Code of Conduct to guarantee the eagles stay safe & undisturbed. With the direction of Nick or Ian plus, of course, Martin of Mull Charters, you should be presented with excellent photographic opportunities as the eagles descend in towards the boat & peel away at the last moment.
Join NaturesLens to capture images of the otters & other wildlife of the Island of Mull, in United Kingdom, during the Mull’s Wildlife in Spring photography holiday. This photography holiday is of 7 night/8 day duration on a Full Board, Non-Shared basis & costs £2249 per participant.
Throughout the duration of this photography holiday, Nick & Ian will be on hand to guide & lead you; Nick & Ian will be providing assistance & advice as needed & helping you develop your skills. They will both help you capture images of the fantastic wildlife of Mull with the impressive backdrop provided by the rugged island itself; Mull is the second largest of a group of islands that make up the Inner Hebrides.
The accommodation is located in Salen, at a location which frequently finds otters around Salen pier.

    Recommended Equipment

    Recommended Camera Equipment

For this photography workshop, we recommend that you bring the longest lens that you own whether this is a 400mm, 500mm or 600mm. If the longest lens you own is a 300mm lens but you have a 1.4x or 2.0 extender this would be suitable for our workshop. In fact, you should pack your extenders as this will allow you to further vary your focal length on this photography workshop.

You will also want a zoom such as a 100-400 or a 200-600, a shorter zoom such as a 70-200 may be useful, & you will want a wild angle for landscapes.

We recommend that you bring weather covers to protect your expensive lens from the weather in case it rains.

You should also pack a tripod that can go down low on the ground or beanbag to help steady your lens.

    Recommended Clothing

For this photography workshop, the weather can be changeable so we would recommend that you pack layers of thin fleeces or mid shirts & jumpers since you can remove items of clothing as you start to warm up. You don't need to bring camouflage clothes but please do pack neutral coloured clothes so that you blend into the landscape. You should also bring a warm waterproof coat & waterproof trousers in case it rains, so you are covered for all eventualities.

Silk gloves or a thin pair of thermal gloves with rubber grip on the fingers & palm will help to keep your hands warm. Silk gloves are great for wicking away moisture from your hands, leaving them dry & therefore lovely & warm. Gloves where the fingers are cut away so that you can operate your camera with them on would be a good substitute.

Don't forget to pack sensible waterproof walking boots & a warm hat to protect your head in case it is windy.
