One of Skomers famous Puffins at The Wick - photographed on a NaturesLens Puffins Photography HolidayDue to overwhelming demand for places on our Skomer Puffins Photography Holiday which booked out all available places for the 2015 trip within a week, we are contemplating running a second trip if the numbers justify it. Therefore, if you missed out on securing a place on our 2015 residential puffins photography trip & would like to attend a possible second trip, please make a booking enquiry using the form here.

This event is now full – please consider emailing us if you would like to attend the 2016 event & be placed onto a list to be informed when we have an announcement to make regarding that photographic holiday.

Our Skomer Puffins Photography Holiday expands on the success of this event in previous years & based on a number of people’s feedback, we have increased our stay on the island from two nights to three nights. The cost of the trip is £450, this is for 3 nights on the island, as previously, we include evening meals, breakfasts, landing fees, plenty of laughter & the opportunity to photograph the iconic puffin at dawn & dusk.

Skomer is not only about the puffins, although they are without a doubt the stars of the show. The more sedate razorbills & Guillemots watch visitors from the rugged cliffs that make up the island’s terrain. Inland of the island, there are colonies of short-eared owls, these beautiful birds of prey fly & hunt during the day on the island. During the evening, Skomer becomes home to what is believed to be the largest population in the world of manx shearwaters. The island becomes alive with their calls as they return to their burrows.

British Owl Photography in Evening light

Long Eared Owl peering out of a tree photographed during the NaturesLens British Owl Photography workshop

We are pleased to announce an intensive British Owl photography workshop on the evening prior to our main May Welsh Owls Photography Workshop, on 9th May 2015. It is our intention for this workshop to focus on an extended session with a beautiful Long Eared Owl, without doubt a stunning subject. The Long-eared Owl is a medium sized owl, it has erect blackish ear-tufts, which are positioned in the center of the head. The ear-tufts are used to make the owl appear larger to other owls while perched. Long Eared Owl sat in a bluebell wood photographed during the NaturesLens British Owl Photography workshop

The third location will be amongst some gorse which always makes for a great contrast. Our final location will be in a different area of woodland & upon completion at this point the Long Eared Owl will be fed, allowing for some great shots of the bird feeding, but you have to be quick! We have just posted the event page & details for an osprey photography holiday, ospreys are a favourite subject of ours, nesting, diving & skimming the lochs of the Scottish Highlands, they were one of the first subjects that both pushed our abilities & gave us an adrenalin rush, our latest tour ventures further afield than Scotland however; we are heading to Blue Cypress Lake in Florida, where there are between 200 & 300 osprey nests located in the cypress trees around the lake itself.

An Osprey soars above Blue Cypress Lake in Florida - the kind of photographic opportunity that is available on the NaturesLens Ospreys of Blue Cypress Lake Photography Holiday

Spanning seven days, the NaturesLens Blue Cypress Lake Osprey Photography Holiday will include day & evening boat trips out on to the lake on most days, it also includes a day visit to the Viera Wetlands Centre a haven for birdlife & a day visit to an alligator farm with a large wading bird rookery – both offer great photographic opportunities. The timing of the trip is deliberate so that we can observe the parents bringing fish to their new offspring. We should be able to photograph Ospreys on their nests at eye level, diving for fish or gathering nest material. Continue reading
