You will depart from a tiny cove in Pembrokeshire; this three-night visit takes you to a location that delivers outstanding seabird photography opportunities year after year.

The three-night Comical Puffins of Skomer Island photography holiday has an itinerary designed for bird photography of puffins at various locations over the island; your opportunities will hopefully incorporate the golden light of sunrise & sunset.

Over the three-night trip, the locations should provide opportunities for capturing images of Atlantic Puffin & other species that call the island home.

What is the best time of year to see Puffins on Skomer Island?

Puffins are among the most iconic & beloved birds in the world, & the chance to view them up close is a memorable experience. Skomer Island off the coast of is one of the best places in the UK to admire puffins, with thousands of these birds nesting in the island's cliffs each year.

From April to June, the island is teaming with puffins as these birds come to shore to mate, breed, & raise their young. During this time, visitors to Skomer can see hundreds of puffins around the island. But to get the best views of these birds, you must visit Skomer during the peak months of May, June & early-July when the puffin population is at its highest.

May & June are ideal for seeing the wonderful courtship displays of puffins & their adorable young. During these months & into July, you may also observe puffins carrying fish back to their burrows as they use these tasty treats to feed their chicks.

How Many Puffins Are There on Skomer Island?

There are approximately 10,000 breeding pairs of Atlantic Puffins on the Skomer & Skokholm Islands, earning the islands the reputation of being one of Britain's most critical puffin colonies. The Atlantic Puffins arrive in mid-April to nest in burrows, many of which have been dug by the island's significant rabbit population. The final Atlantic Puffins depart the island by the second or third week in July.

We are currently finalising future dates for this tour. The definitive dates will be made available in mid-October 2023. However, we will take bookings before that on the understanding that the dates are not yet fixed.
