The Pantanal is a vast wetland located in , primarily in but also extending into Bolivia & Paraguay. It is considered one of the world's most extensive freshwater wetlands & is renowned for its exceptional biodiversity. The region is home to an incredible array of wildlife, including jaguars, capybaras, giant otters, & over 650 bird species.

The Pantanal experiences distinct wet & dry seasons, with its wet season occurring from November to April. During this time, the region becomes a haven for birds & aquatic species, with expansive floods transforming the landscape into a thriving ecosystem.

How many Jaguars are left in the Pantanal?


Sadly, due to habitat destruction, poaching, & other threats, the population is declining. Estimates of the current jaguar population in the Pantanal range from as low as 1,800 to a maximum of 8,000 individuals. Conservation efforts are underway, but the numbers continue to drop, & it is critical that we take steps to protect this fantastic animal & its habitat.

How big are the Jaguars found on the Pantanal?


Jaguars are the largest of the that roam , & the ones found on the Pantanal are some of the biggest of their species. They typically range between 90-220 cm, with a tail length of 30-80 cm, & weighing between 56-96 kilograms. These powerful animals also have a shoulder height of around 80 cm & a standing height of approximately 1.20 meters. Jaguars are known to be quite territorial, so they are not usually seen in groups. However, due to their large size, they can travel quite far in search of food & territory to claim.

All personal luggage are the responsibility of the owner & we request that photography holiday participants limit their luggage to the equivalent of one suitcase, one flight bag, one camera bag & tripod. We do not wish to appear dictatorial in this matter & the request is made to ensure space & comfort for everyone in our vehicles.
