Where is the Lobo region of the Serengeti?
The Lobo area of the Serengeti is located in the northern part of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. It is known for its stunning landscapes & abundant wildlife & is a prime viewing area for the Great Migration of wildebeests & zebras. The Lobo area offers excellent game viewing opportunities & is a popular destination for wildlife photographers hoping to capture images demonstrating the beauty of the Serengeti ecosystem.
What Wildlife of the Serengeti Do We Hope to Photograph?
During our stay in the Lobo region, you can expect to encounter diverse predators crucial to the area’s rich ecosystem. Lions, iconic residents of the Serengeti, are commonly spotted in Lobo, displaying their majestic presence & impressive hunting skills. Leopards, known for their elusive nature, also thrive in this area & can often be seen resting on tree branches or stalking prey. With their remarkable speed & agility, cheetahs can be observed hunting across the savannah plains. Additionally, hyenas, including the spotted hyena & the smaller striped hyena, play a vital role as scavengers & skilled hunters. These predators work together to maintain the dynamic balance of wildlife in the Lobo region. Visiting this area provides remarkable opportunities to witness nature’s raw beauty in action.
Each guest photographer on the trip will have sole access to a row of seats in the customised safari vehicles, thoughtfully designed with photographers in mind. This setup provides plenty of space for equipment & allows for flexibility in shooting from either the low-side windows or the open roof of the vehicle.
What is the Serengeti Migration?
The Serengeti Migration is one of the most spectacular natural events in the world. Millions of wildebeest, zebra, & other grazing animals move in a circular pattern between the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania & the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya in search of fresh grazing land & water. This annual migration is driven by the changing seasons & is a remarkable sight as the herds cross rivers, teeming with crocodiles & navigating vast savannas. It is a prime wildlife viewing opportunity & a must-see for nature enthusiasts.
When does the Serengeti Migration take place?
Twice a year, usually between mid-May & late June & again around October & November, the migration passes through the Lobo region. The timing of the migration depends on the rains. This strategic location allows our guests to witness this natural phenomenon up close, which enhances their overall experience of staying in the Serengeti.
