Search wildlife photography holidays the way you think about them
A fast, typo-tolerant search that understands species, destinations, months, guides and photography methods, and ranks trips where several of those match at once. Press Cmd/Ctrl + K anywhere on the site, or use the button below.
Try it
Open the search and type a query. Results are grouped into holidays, articles and destination pages, with a short explanation of why each one matched.
Queries to try
puffins in june
Species plus month. Date intelligence rewards trips whose departure dates genuinely overlap June.
bears in europe
Species plus continent. Locations are hierarchical, so country and locality trips inherit their region.
snow monkey
Synonym handling: Japanese macaque and macaque searches reach the same trips.
hummingbirds places available
Asking for availability makes places remaining a strong ranking signal.
puffn
A deliberate typo. Fuzzy matching and did-you-mean suggestions recover the intent.
cranes not japan
Negative intent: exclusions remove or demote matching trips.
What is happening behind the box
Custom inverted index
Search does not use WP_Query. A purpose-built MySQL index with BM25-inspired scoring and per-field weights keeps results instant and relevant.
Structured intent
Species, destination, date, guide and photography method are treated as separate dimensions, with escalating bonuses when several land on the same holiday.
Facets and explanations
Each search returns facets for species, destination, month, guide, photography, difficulty, price and availability, plus a plain-English reason for every match.
Careful learning
Aggregate click learning needs at least three clicks and is capped at 12%. Session personalisation is capped at 8%. Behaviour only breaks close ties.
Editable ontology
Synonyms and wildlife families (raptors, primates, owls and more) are managed in WordPress admin, with a filter hook for site-specific rules.
Analytics and gaps
Anonymous query logging surfaces top searches, no-result and low-click queries, and content or product gaps in the Search Intelligence dashboard.
