NaturesLens visits Moyobamba on small-group wildlife photography holidays in Peru, with time here planned around Amethyst Woodstar, Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, Black-throated Mango, Blue-Necked Tanager and Chestnut-breasted Coronet rather than general sightseeing. Current itineraries using Moyobamba include Peru’s Ultimate Hummingbirds, with photography shaped around flight, garden and close-up and night or low-light photography sessions. The capital of Peru’s San Martín region, known as the “orchid city,” set at the transition between Andean foothills & Amazonian lowlands; the trip’s Waqanki Lodge gardens & feeder stations sit within the town’s outskirts. Around 20 hummingbird species are recorded at Waqanki’s feeders, including Rufous-crested Coquette, Violet-headed Hummingbird, Fork-tailed Woodnymph, White-chinned Sapphire, White-necked Jacobin & Black-throated Mango.
