Kaziranga National Park lies in the northeastern Indian state of Assam, straddling the southern bank of the mighty Brahmaputra River. This UNESCO World Heritage Site encompasses a mosaic of tall elephant grass meadows, swampy lagoons, & dense tropical forest, all shaped by the annual flooding of the Brahmaputra, which deposits nutrient-rich silt & sustains the park's exceptional productivity. The braided river channels & oxbow lakes that punctuate the landscape provide critical habitat for both terrestrial & aquatic wildlife, making Kaziranga one of the most ecologically significant floodplain ecosystems in South Asia.

The park is world-renowned as the stronghold of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros, whose numbers here represent a major conservation success story, while Bengal tigers patrol the grasslands & forest edges as the park's apex predator. Herds of Asian & Indian elephants move through the terrain alongside wild water buffalo, hog deer, swamp deer, & wild boar, all thriving amid the varied grassland & wetland habitats. The Brahmaputra's waters harbour the elusive Ganges river dolphin & playful smooth-coated otters, while the skies & wetlands host bar-headed geese & the striking greater adjutant stork, a rare & distinctive scavenger. Indian hornbills add colour to the forested margins, & Indian rock pythons can occasionally be found moving quietly through the undergrowth, completing this remarkably diverse wildlife assemblage.
