Best time

Early morning during the dry season from November to April is ideal, as buffalo gather near water sources & open grasslands making them more visible. The Kaziranga trips in late March & early April coincide with excellent conditions, when vegetation is lower & animals congregate around shrinking water bodies, offering outstanding photographic opportunities.

Approach

Use a long telephoto lens of at least 400mm to capture close detail while maintaining a safe distance from these powerful animals. Early morning light in the grasslands & wetlands of Kaziranga offers soft, golden illumination ideal for highlighting the buffalo's dark coat & impressive horns. Position yourself low to the ground when possible to achieve eye-level shots that convey the animal's imposing stature & presence.
