Atlantic Royal Flycatcher at Atlantic Rainforest

The Atlantic Rainforest, or Mata Atlântica, once ran almost unbroken along Brazil's eastern seaboard, stretching from the northeast down through the southern states and climbing inland across steep, mist-shrouded escarpments; though heavily fragmented today, the surviving tracts remain a stronghold for the Atlantic Royal Flycatcher. Photographers joining our Birds of Brazil holiday in May will find these remnant forest patches the key setting for locating the species. Working within these fragmented but still substantial stretches of rainforest gives a real sense of how extensive this habitat once was.
