The Pantanal’s open, seasonally flooded savanna holds the highest concentration of Jaguars on earth, & our trips along the Cuiabá River are specifically structured around river-based jaguar photography from motorised boats. Jaguars patrol riverbanks to ambush Capybaras & Giant River Otters, & encounters from the water give clean, unobstructed angles that are simply unavailable in forest environments. Beyond jaguars, the Pantanal’s extraordinary abundance extends to Giant Otters, Capybaras, Caimans, Tapirs, & over 650 bird species including the iconic Hyacinth Macaw – the world’s largest parrot – & the prehistoric-looking Jabiru Stork. Every game drive & river session produces a surplus of secondary subjects alongside the headline mammals. Photographic Conditions The dry season (June through October) is the prime photography window, when water levels drop, jaguars concentrate along river corridors, & vegetation thins to maximise sightlines. River-based shooting requires fast reaction & tracking ability – 400-600mm is the standard lens range. Hyacinth Macaws at nesting palms & feeding stations suit 200-400mm in beautiful warm Pantanal light.
