Brazilian Ruby at Atlantic Rainforest

The Atlantic Rainforest, or Mata Atlântica, once ran almost continuously along Brazil's eastern seaboard, stretching from the northeast down through the southern states and climbing inland across steep, mist-shrouded escarpments, and it is within these surviving fragments that the Brazilian Ruby can be found. Photographers joining the Birds of Brazil holiday in May stand the best chance of encountering this species against the backdrop of these atmospheric, cloud-wrapped slopes. Given the terrain, patience and a willingness to work in changeable light will serve you well when framing this striking hummingbird. Time spent studying the rainforest's structure beforehand will help you anticipate where a clear shot might present itself.
