Imagine the thrill of photographing the vibrant birds of Brazil across three carefully selected bases in the Atlantic Rainforest, each offering its own blend of species, light, & atmosphere. The itinerary of this 8 night wildlife photography tour has been redesigned around photography rather than simply covering as much ground as possible, giving us more variety, more flexibility & more time to make the most of every opportunity.
Our first full day concentrates on the birds that make southeast Brazil such an exciting photographic destination: Red-breasted Toucans, Saffron Toucanets, colourful tanagers, woodpeckers & hummingbirds, with the day shaped around whichever species are performing best. Staying several nights means we don’t have to treat any encounter as our only chance – we can return to the most productive areas, revisit species & work on improving compositions, backgrounds & behaviour shots.
We then move on to a second photographic base deeper in the Atlantic Rainforest, with a fresh set of feeders, perches & forest habitats, where we hope to encounter species such as Spot-billed Toucanet, Green-headed Tanager & Swallow-tailed Hummingbird. Our third & final base has a strong hummingbird focus, with Brazilian Ruby, Violet-capped Woodnymph & other hummingbirds alongside specialist photographic setups around feeders, hides & water. Trogons, manakins & other forest birds are all part of what makes photographing here so rewarding.
With eight nights across three locations, we have much more variety than a single base can offer, without turning the holiday into a constant series of long transfers. Our final full day is deliberately flexible, so we can concentrate on the photographs we still want once we know which species & setups have been producing the best results.
The 2027 departure has moved to late May, within the period when seasonal feeding conditions can offer particularly good opportunities in the Atlantic Forest, & the revised itinerary gives us more flexibility if activity varies between locations. This is more than just a holiday; it’s a chance to build a collection of photographs you’re genuinely pleased with, in the astonishing beauty of Brazil’s birdlife.
We’re holding the price at £4,499 per person – the same as this year – & that includes your own room, so there’s no single supplement. I’ll be leading the holiday personally with a very small group.

This trip is one of our wildlife photography holidays in Brazil & part of our programme of South American wildlife photography holidays.
We’ll spend our eight nights across three carefully selected photographic bases in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, each chosen for the opportunities it offers. That gives us much more variety, but without long transfers dominating the holiday, and we still have time to settle into each location, understand what is working photographically & make repeated visits to the most productive areas.
At our first base we’ll concentrate on Red-breasted Toucans, Saffron Toucanets, colourful tanagers, woodpeckers & hummingbirds, with several nights to work on strong perches, uncluttered backgrounds & behaviour that gives us something more than a simple record shot.
Our second base brings a new set of feeders, perches & forest habitats without losing the character of the Atlantic Rainforest. Spot-billed Toucanet, Green-headed Tanager & Swallow-tailed Hummingbird are among the species we hope to encounter, and because the group is small we can spend longer on the opportunities producing the strongest images.
Our third & final base opens up a different collection of birds, with a hummingbird garden & specialist photographic setups around feeders, hides & water. Brazilian Ruby is one of the species we are particularly hoping to photograph, alongside Violet-capped Woodnymph & other hummingbirds.
Together, these bases – with their photographer-first approach & variety of species & setups – create an itinerary designed to give everyone the best possible opportunity to build a collection of Atlantic Forest photographs they’re genuinely pleased with.
The following is the proposed itinerary for this photography holiday, it should be considered provisional & subject to change.
- Day 1 - Assemble at São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport (26 May); first photography around the lodge & feeding areas - transfer to our first base in the Atlantic Rainforest - overnight at our first base
- Day 2 - Toucans, toucanets & colourful Atlantic Forest species - Red-breasted Toucans, Saffron Toucanets, tanagers, woodpeckers & hummingbirds - overnight at our first base
- Day 3 - A second chance to refine the images - revisiting the most productive areas to improve compositions, backgrounds & behaviour shots - overnight at our first base
- Day 4 - Final morning session at our first base - transfer to our second photographic base - overnight at our second base
- Day 5 - A full day of photography at our second base, with a different mix of species & photographic setups - overnight at our second base
- Day 6 - Final morning session at our second base - the longest transfer of the holiday - transfer to our third & final base; explore the local feeding areas & hummingbird garden - overnight at our third base
- Day 7 - Hummingbirds & specialist photographic opportunities - Brazilian Ruby & other hummingbirds, with setups around feeders, hides & water - overnight at our third base
- Day 8 - A flexible final day, concentrating on the photographs we still want - overnight at our third base
- Day 9 - Final morning of photography (3 June) - transfer to São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport for onward flights

Travel Insurance – it is a requirement when booking on any wildlife photography holiday scheduled by NaturesLens that you have adequate travel insurance, we suggest a policy from TrailFinders or Campbell Irvine.
NaturesLens photography holidays do not include flights unless it is explicitly stated on the event page. When it is time to book your flights, we will send you the details in plenty of time to allow for bookings at the best available price.
The photography holiday itinerary is subject to change & is to be considered provisional.
NaturesLens photography holidays require a minimum number of participants in order to be viable. If this minimum number is not met, the photography holiday may not go ahead.
In the event that the minimum number for a photography holiday to go ahead is not reached, NaturesLens reserves the right to cancel any given photography holiday. In that event 100% of monies received will be returned. However, NaturesLens is not responsible for expenses incurred by its customers.
Not all mentioned wildlife can be observed & photographed at all times of the year, thus some activities may be considered seasonal & not available.
Please note the cuisine on many of the NaturesLens photography holidays is authentic & typical of the region in which you are travelling. International or western cuisine is often NOT available. If you have any concerns over the food arrangements or have any special dietary requirements, please contact us prior to making a booking.
All personal luggage are the responsibility of the owner & we request that photography holiday participants limit their luggage to the equivalent of one suitcase, one flight bag, one camera bag & tripod. We do not wish to appear dictatorial in this matter & the request is made to ensure space & comfort for everyone in our vehicles.
