Great Grey Owl at Białowieża Forest
Białowieża Forest, straddling the Polish–Belarusian border, remains one of Europe's last great tracts of primeval woodland, its ancient deciduous and mixed stands offering a rare sense of untouched wilderness for photographers. It is here, amid this mosaic of old-growth forest, that the Great Grey Owl can be sought during January, when the bare winter canopy allows for clearer sightlines into the trees. Patience is rewarded in a landscape that has changed little over centuries, giving images a genuine backdrop of primeval Europe. Those joining the Wildlife of Białowieża Forest holiday will have this remarkable setting as the stage for their pursuit of this striking owl.
