Why Is Single Occupancy Included on Most Trips?
Most wildlife photography holidays charge extra if you want a room to yourself. On most NaturesLens trips, single occupancy is included as standard.
We do this because wildlife photography days rarely follow the same routine for everyone.
Some people:
- Go to bed early
- Stay up reviewing images
- Wake well before dawn
- Need quiet time during the day
In a shared room, those differences often lead to small compromises. One person’s alarm wakes the other. One wants the lights off, the other wants them on. Over several days, that can affect sleep & energy levels.
Having your own room removes that issue. You can keep your own routine without worrying about someone else’s.
Why Many Trips Use Shared Rooms
Shared rooms are common in the travel industry because they allow operators to:
- Use fewer rooms
- Keep headline prices lower
- Run larger groups
That approach works well for many general wildlife or sightseeing holidays.
Our trips are built differently, with small groups & photography-first schedules, so single occupancy fits naturally into the way the trips run.
Better Rest, Better Days in the Field
Wildlife photography often involves:
- Early starts
- Long waits in hides or on location
- Changing weather conditions
- Sustained concentration
Good sleep makes a noticeable difference. Being rested helps with patience, decision-making, & overall enjoyment of the trip.
A private room gives you:
- Control over light & noise
- Your own schedule
- Space to relax & review images
Linked to Our Small-Group Approach
Single occupancy works because our trips are designed around small groups.
Smaller groups allow us to:
- Use smaller hotels & lodges
- Stay closer to wildlife locations
- Keep daily travel times shorter
You can read more about this here – why we only take small groups on wildlife photography trips.
Simple Pricing, Fewer Decisions
Including single occupancy also keeps pricing simpler.
There is:
- No need to find a roommate
- No single supplement to calculate
- No awkward room-sharing arrangements
What you see in the trip price already includes your own room on most departures.
Good for Solo Travellers
Many of our guests travel on their own. Having a private room makes the experience more comfortable without changing the social side of the trip.
Field time, meals, & conversations are shared. Your room is your own space.

In Short
On most NaturesLens trips:
- You get your own room
- There is no single supplement
- You can keep your own routine
It is a simple decision that helps make the trips run more smoothly for everyone.
