Yudanaka

NaturesLens visits Yudanaka on small-group wildlife photography holidays in Japan, with time here planned around Black-eared Kite, Ezo Flying Squirrel, Ezo Red Fox, Ezo Red Squirrel and Ezo Sika Deer rather than general sightseeing. Current itineraries using Yudanaka include Amazing Japanese Wildlife in Winter, with photography shaped around hide, flight, night or low-light and landscape and behaviour photography sessions. A hot-spring town in the Japan Alps of Nagano Prefecture, gateway to Jigokudani Monkey Park, where steam rises from volcanic pools against a backdrop of steep, snow-bound cedar forest. Japanese macaques (“snow monkeys”) bathe in the park’s hot springs, a behaviour unique to this troop & the signature subject of the visit, while Japanese serow & a range of montane forest birds inhabit the surrounding valley.
