Yundola Pass

NaturesLens visits Yundola Pass on small-group wildlife photography holidays in Bulgaria, with time here planned around Amanda’s Blue, Apollo, Chequered Skipper, Clouded Apollo and Dingy Skipper rather than general sightseeing. Current itineraries using Yundola Pass include Bulgarian Mountain Butterfly Macro, with photography shaped around field photography sessions. A mountain pass in the Rila-Rhodope massif above 1,300m, used as a base for reaching alpine meadows up toward 2,600m near the Belmeken dam. Purple & Freyer’s Purple Emperor & Purple-shot Copper are found on the approach, with Bulgarian Ringlet, Ottoman Brassy Ringlet, Shepherd’s Fritillary & Balkan Fritillary among the high-altitude specialities above the pass.
