Photography Holidays in the Uk Require Financial Protection by Law

The Package Travel & Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 apply to holiday travel arrangements booked on or after 1 July 2018. The regulations cover two types of travel arrangements – package holidays & linked travel arrangements – which have different levels of protection.

Almost all wildlife photography holidays, tours & workshops of longer than 24 hours duration are now classified as package holidays or linked travel arrangements – meaning that the provider must adhere to the Package Travel & Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018.

A package holiday or linked travel arrangement is a combination of at least two different types of travel services (some examples of which are listed below) – but it is how these travel services are sold which defines whether this is a package holiday or a linked travel arrangement.

Types of travel services covered by the regulations include:
  • transport – such as a in-trip transportation, flight, coach or train but not transfers from an airport.
  • accommodation.
  • a service – such as a tuition or guiding services – where this is a significant part of the holiday either because of its value or because it is an essential part of the trip.

For clarity, the wildlife photography holidays, tours & workshops offered by NaturesLens are classed as package holidays for the purposes of the Package Travel & Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018.

In accordance with the Package Travel & Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 all passengers booking with NaturesLens Limited are fully insured for the initial deposit, & subsequently the balance of monies paid as detailed in your booking confirmation form.

The policy will also include repatriation if required.

Yes, a package holiday booked with NaturesLens, or any other provider of photography holidays, requires both financial & legal protection. This means that the provider will be responsible for providing the holiday you have paid for. By choosing a package holiday with NaturesLens, you can have assurance that your money & your trip are secure.

In general wildlife photography holidays are considered legally as package tours since they include a minimum period of 24 hours or include overnight accommodation, & comprise of two or more of the following services: transport (such as a flight, coach or train), accommodation (e.g. hotel, villa or apartment), car rental, or tourist services (such as tuition, guiding services, tour guide or a trip to a historical attraction). This combination is essential to the trip & has significant value, meaning the package tour regulations must be complied with. We remain devoted to guest rights & safeguarding our customers in case of events such as COVID, as do many other providers of wildlife photography tours.

A package travel contract is the combination of two or more travel services, such as flights, accommodation, ground transportation, & tours, provided to a single customer for one journey or holiday.

On 1 July 2018, the Package Travel & Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 came into effect & fulfilled the commitments of the European Union's 2015 Package Travel Directive.

The Package Travel Regulations offer a full range of protection if a holiday provider experiences financial difficulties.

All UK & European wildlife holiday, tour, or trip providers must be part of a legal scheme that ensures a full refund for you if their services are no longer available, or if you are already abroad, that you would be brought home.

If these arrangements are not present, the travel provider is not in compliance with the law, & you would have no legal protection if a problem arises.
