Griffon Vulture at Cantalejo

Cantalejo, tucked into the province of Segovia within Castilla y León on the northern edge of the Iberian plateau, offers a striking mix of rolling farmland, limestone outcrops and wooded hillsides that draws Griffon Vultures to the skies overhead. Visiting in April gives photographers the best chance of catching these huge birds riding thermals above the terrain, set against the varied backdrop this landscape provides. This location is one of the highlights of the Birdlife of Northern Spain holiday, where the open plateau scenery lends itself well to capturing vultures in flight against a wide, uncluttered sky.
