Red Kite at Extremadura

Extremadura's open dehesa landscape, one of the least developed and most sparsely populated corners of western Spain near the Portuguese border, offers superb opportunities to photograph Red Kites against this ancient, low-intensity agricultural backdrop. The wide, uncluttered holm oak terrain gives clear sightlines and a natural stage for capturing this species in flight or at rest. Visiting in April, as part of the Birds of Extremadura holiday, gives photographers the best chance of encountering Red Kites here amid the region's distinctive scenery.
