Best time

Early morning hours between 6am & 9am offer the best light & most active bird behaviour. The austral spring & summer months from September to January coincide with peak activity & breeding season, making this the optimal period for photography.

Approach

Position yourself near fruiting trees in forest edge habitats, as these birds are regularly attracted to fruit sources & will remain still long enough for clear shots. Use a fast shutter speed of at least 1/1000s to freeze any sudden movements, & a telephoto lens of 400mm or longer to maintain a respectful distance without disturbing the bird. Early morning light provides warm, flattering illumination that enhances the metallic & brassy tones of the plumage.
