This exciting trip will take you through the diverse landscapes of Peru, allowing you to capture stunning photographs of exotic bird species in their natural habitats.
The range of birds that we should be able to observe & photograph during this tour is vast & includes many different types of hummingbirds such as Black-throated Hermit, White-necked Jacobin, Fork-tailed Woodnymph, White-chinned Sapphire, Rufous-crested Coquette, Black-throated Mango, Violet-fronted Brilliant, Gray-breasted Sabrewing, Sapphire-spangled Emerald, White-chinned Sapphire, Rufous-throated Sapphire, Black-throated Brilliant, Blue-fronted Lancebill, Green-fronted Lancebill, Green Hermit, Reddish Hermit, Black-throated Hermit, Napo Sabrewing, White-bellied Woodstar, Wire-crested Thorntail, Long-billed Starthroat, Many-spotted Hummingbird, Royal Sunangel, Amethyst-throated Sunangel, Buff-thighed Puffleg, Booted Racket-tail, Rufous-vented Whitetip, White-tailed Hillstar, Long-tailed Sylph, Marvelous Spatuletail, Andean Emerald, Brown Violetear, White-bellied Hummingbird, Purple-throated Woodstar, & the White-bellied Woodstar. The real highlight of the tour however is without a doubt, the Marvelous Spatuletail.
We will begin our adventure by meeting at Lima Airport & transferring to a local airport hotel. The next day, we will take a flight to Tarapoto City, where we will have the opportunity to capture images of the enigmatic Oilbirds at Puente Quiscarumi Bridge. From there, we will drive to Moyobamba City & check into a picturesque local hotel.
The following day will be dedicated to exploring more local hummingbird feeders, where we will have the opportunity to photograph over 22 species of hummingbirds. In the afternoon, we will take walks on the trails around the lodge to spot woodpeckers, tanagers, & pigeons.
The next day, we will visit another local reserve also renowned for its hummingbird feeders. This reserve is home to an impressive 28 species of hummingbirds. Afterwards, we will drive to the Abra Patricia Owlet Lodge in the primary cloud-rain forest.
At the Abra Patricia Owlet Lodge, we will have the opportunity to capture photographs of a variety of hummingbirds & tanagers. In the evening, we will undertake a guided walk to search for the elusive Long-whiskered Owlet & other owl species.
The following day will take us to the Fundo Alto Nieva hummingbird feeders, where you can photograph exclusive & unique bird species. In the afternoon, you can explore the lodge's gardens & surrounding areas to spot additional bird species.
Following this, we will travel to Huembo Lodge, where we will have the chance to photograph the mythical Marvelous Spatuletail hummingbird, which is endemic to the region. This endangered species is a must-see highlight of the trip.
After more photography sessions on Day 8, we will return to Tarapoto for an overnight stay. On Day 9, we will visit a conservation centre to photograph the endemic Koepcke's Hermit hummingbird. Along the way, we also hope to photograph various endemic tanagers.
On the final day, we will return to Lima & depart for home, taking away incredible memories and, hopefully, stunning photographs of Peru's unique birdlife.
