Specific Location

Huembo Reserve

NaturesLens visits Huembo Reserve on small-group wildlife photography holidays in Peru, with time here planned around Amethyst Woodstar, Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, Black-throated Mango, Blue-Necked Tanager and Chestnut-breasted Coronet rather than general sightseeing. Current itineraries using Huembo Reserve include Peru’s Ultimate Hummingbirds, with photography shaped around flight and garden and close-up photography sessions. A small community-run reserve near Pomacochas in the Utcubamba valley of northern Peru, established in 2007 specifically to protect a single, spectacular species. Marvelous Spatuletail, a hummingbird found only in this valley & considered among the most extraordinary birds in the world, viewable at close range from the reserve’s feeder stations.
