Indri at Andasibe

Andasibe, a stretch of humid mid-altitude forest built around the Analamazaotra, Mitsinjo and Maromizaha reserves a few hours from Antananarivo, is one of the best places to encounter the indri, the largest living lemur species. Photographers joining the Madagascar Wildlife & Rainforest holiday in November should be ready for the indri's haunting calls carrying through the canopy, often signalling exactly where to point a lens. The same reserves also shelter diademed sifaka, so it's worth keeping half an eye on the surrounding trees while tracking the indri. Patience with the humid forest conditions pays off here, as the indri's presence is one of Andasibe's defining wildlife draws.
