About this species
The Indian Wild Dog, also known as the Dhole, is a highly social canid native to Central, South, & Southeast Asia. It lives in tight-knit packs & is known for its cooperative hunting behaviour, capable of taking down prey much larger than itself. The species is classified as Endangered due to habitat loss, prey depletion, & persecution.
Dholes inhabit a range of environments including dense tropical forests, scrub forests, grasslands, & alpine steppes, typically within protected reserves & national parks across India such as Nagarhole & Bandipur.

Early morning & late afternoon during the cooler dry season months of October to March, when packs are most active & vegetation is less dense, improving visibility in forest clearings.
Position yourself near water sources or kill sites at dawn where packs gather, as dholes are most active during early morning & late afternoon hours. Use a telephoto lens of at least 400mm to capture intimate pack interactions without disturbing natural behaviour. Employ a low angle & steady tripod to achieve sharp, eye-level shots that convey the energy & social dynamics of the pack.
