About this species
The Red-necked Tanager is a strikingly colourful bird native to South America, found primarily in Brazil, Argentina, & Paraguay. It displays a vivid combination of green plumage, a bright red throat & neck patch, and a blue head, making it one of the more visually spectacular members of the tanager family. The species inhabits Atlantic Forest regions and is often seen foraging for fruit in the forest canopy.
Subtropical & tropical moist lowland forests, particularly Atlantic Forest in eastern South America, including forest edges, secondary growth, & areas with fruiting trees at low to mid elevations.

Photography notes
Early morning hours shortly after dawn are ideal, when birds are most active & feeding. The breeding season between September & January brings increased activity & bolder behaviour, making it the best period of the year for photography.
Position yourself at forest edges during early morning light when the birds descend to fruiting trees, as this offers the best opportunity to capture their vivid colours in natural light. Use a fast shutter speed of at least 1/800s to freeze movement, as tanagers are active & rarely sit still for long. A telephoto lens of 400mm or longer is recommended to achieve frame-filling shots without disturbing the bird's natural behaviour.
