Species regularly photographed include Golden Eagle, Black Kite, Red Kite, Griffon Vulture, European Bee-eater, Eurasian Hoopoe, Egyptian Vulture, Bonelli's Eagle & Lesser Kestrel. Additional species may also visit the hide locations throughout the trip. As with all wildlife photography, sightings can never be guaranteed.

How much time do we spend in the photography hides?

This is a dedicated hide-based photography holiday with morning & afternoon sessions daily from days 2-6. The twice-daily photography schedule maximises opportunities to capture the Golden Eagles & other birdlife around Cantalejo throughout different lighting conditions.

How do the custom-built photography hides work?

The hides are situated strategically within the landscape around Cantalejo to provide optimal opportunities for photographing Golden Eagles & other species. Designed specifically for wildlife photography, they allow comfortable working conditions while maintaining appropriate distances from the birds.

What are the benefits of a 5-photographer group?

The 5-photographer limit ensures everyone has sufficient space within the hides, receives personalised guidance from Ian Roberts & enjoys a more relaxed photographic experience. This small group size allows for individual attention during both morning & afternoon sessions.

What is the accommodation like?

You'll stay for 6 nights at a comfortable rural hotel in Cantalejo on a full board basis. Single occupancy accommodation is included as standard. The location provides convenient access to the various hide locations around the town.

What equipment should I bring?

Bring a camera suitable for bird photography, telephoto lenses for wildlife subjects, spare batteries & memory cards. A tripod is recommended for stability during hide sessions. Detailed equipment recommendations will be provided before departure.

Do I need advanced photography skills?

No advanced skills are required. Ian Roberts & the local guides provide experienced guidance suitable for photographers of all levels during the hide sessions. The structured approach allows beginners to develop their skills while experienced photographers can refine their techniques.

Trip cost includes 6 nights at the rural hotel in Cantalejo, all meals on a full board basis, guiding by Ian Roberts, morning & afternoon photography sessions, airport transfers & hide access. Single occupancy accommodation is included as standard.

Can I photograph birds in flight as well as perched?

Yes, the hide locations provide opportunities to capture both flight photography & perched shots. The Golden Eagles & other species like Black Kites & Red Kites regularly soar over the gorges, while the hides also offer chances for environmental shots showing birds in their landscape setting.
