NaturesLens runs small-group wildlife photography holidays in Botswana, led by Pui Hang Miles. The trip is built around elephants, lions, African Skimmers & other wildlife along the Chobe River. The current trip is Wildlife of the Chobe River (7 nights). Groups are limited to five photographers, & single occupancy is included on current departures. Our Wildlife of the Chobe River trip runs in October, at the end of the dry season. Chobe’s elephant herds, among the largest on the continent, concentrate along the river in numbers that produce genuinely overwhelming photographic spectacle. River-based sessions also bring African Fish Eagles, African Skimmers, Hippos, Lions, Leopards & African Wild Dogs within reach. Photographic Conditions The dry season (May through October) is the prime photography window, as animals concentrate at permanent water & vegetation thins. Most shooting requires 300-500mm; a 70-200mm is useful for wider environmental shots from boats where subjects approach closely. Photography Themes Botswana offers outstanding opportunities for wildlife photography, with the chance to photograph species such as African Buffalo, African Elephant, African Fish Eagle, African Leopard, African Lion, African Skimmer, African Wild Dog, Black-backed Jackal, Chobe Bushbuck, Common Genet, Giraffe, Greater Kudu, Hippopotamus, Impala, Nile Crocodile & Saddle-billed Stork. These highlighted species represent only a small part of the wildlife found across the area, with many more species present depending on habitat, region & seasonal conditions.
