Additional species such as Purple Heron, Squacco Heron, Night Heron, Hoopoe & various cormorants may also be encountered. As with all wildlife photography, sightings can never be guaranteed.

Photography Experience

Why is Lake Kerkini particularly good for spring bird photography?

Lake Kerkini is a wetland paradise where spring brings intense breeding activity & new life hatching in nests around the lake. The timing coincides with courtship displays, rich breeding plumage & active feeding behaviours as birds prepare for nesting season.

Boat Photography

How do the boat photography sessions work?

Photography takes place from a dedicated boat with an experienced boatman we have used for 9 years. The boat allows close approach to birds in their natural environment as we drift through the wetland, providing opportunities for both portraits & environmental shots against the lake & mountain backdrop.

Time on Water

How much time do we spend on boat photography sessions?

This is a dedicated boat-based photography holiday, with morning & afternoon photography sessions from the boat on days 2-5. Photography sessions are scheduled at sunrise & sunset to make the most of the prime times for creative photography & bird activity.

Breeding Behaviour

What spring breeding behaviours can I photograph?

Spring brings Dalmatian Pelicans in courtship display with vivid orange pouches, European Bee-eaters with colourful prey in their bills, & various herons in rich breeding plumage. You can photograph nesting activity, territorial interactions & feeding behaviours as birds prepare for the breeding season.

Group Benefits

What are the benefits of a 6-photographer group?

The 6-photographer limit ensures everyone has sufficient space on the boat for comfortable photography, receives personalised guidance from Dan Trim & enjoys a more relaxed photographic experience. The small group allows optimal positioning for the best shots.

Photography Skills

Do I need advanced photography skills?

No advanced skills are required. Dan Trim & the local guides provide experienced guidance suitable for photographers of all levels during the boat sessions. The trip is designed as a photography holiday with support for developing your skills throughout.
