The anticipation of a return to the Skomer Puffins

For the last few years, June & July have seen NaturesLens run 3 night photography holidays to capture images of the Skomer Puffins, & 2017 is no different!

It is almost time – two weeks out – for the first of our annual visits to capture images of Skomer’s Puffins – for several years now, we have taken large groups with multiple guides to the island, the first trip of 2017 is being led by myself & Sean Weekly, the second by Sean Weekly & Kevin Morgans. That means that the weekend after next will be ‘cooking time’, there should be plenty of warming food for the evening meals, some cakes & we might slip the odd box of wine in.

A small selection of images of Atlantic Puffins from John

John visited Skomer as one of the participants on our July Puffins of Skomer Island Photography Holiday, this trip was led by Dan, & like our June trip they spent three days on the island, with the clowns of the sea, the atlantic puffins.

Like our June trip they had some very mixed weather conditions, but on the last evening, everything came good for them & the sun bathed The Wick in golden light, enabling the participants to take advantage & capture some beautiful images of the Atlantic Puffins that call Skomer ‘home’ for a short series of months every summer.

John has kindly contributed in half a dozen of his images for inclusion in this blog post, including this rather stunning back-lit puffin coming in to land.
