Kevin & Jean were guests on our imposing Brown Bears & Cubs of Finland trip back in July. They shared a hide throughout the trip, so I was intrigued to see how different their photography style would be. Here, we showcase some of Kevin’s beautiful images from the trip.

We always recommend that our guests take a wide-angle lens as well as a mid-range telephoto zoom & a long lens. This way, all bases are covered depending on how close (or not) the bears are from the hide. Kevin’s go-to lens on this trip was his 150mm-600mm Sigma Sport, which proved to be extremely versatile. Its broad focal range allowed him to capture these beautiful reflection shots as well as tight portraits of the cubs.

Bear visits were frequent, so by the end of the first night, everyone had shots that they were happy with. This then freed up the rest of the trip for them to experiment with shots or try something different.

Our group were very fortunate with sightings of bears, wolverine & even a wolf. However, the weather was a different story! At the time of our tour, Finland was unseasonably cold, which caught everyone by surprise. In previous years, it had been so hot that the hides, at times, felt like they were saunas!

I especially love the image of the bear cub above & the image of the bear scratching at the bottom of this post. Kevin has captured their personality & behaviour beautifully!

Unlike the hides at Wild Brown Bear, the openings for the cameras are set low to allow for eye-level shots. For this reason, it would be a good idea to pack a right-angle viewfinder if you own one.

Kevin said: “We enjoyed the trip & have some great images.”  Many thanks to Kevin for allowing us to share his beautiful images with you. I can’t wait to see what Jean has sent in!
