Pui Hang leads our Iberian Lynx photography holidays, based at a lodge near Andújar in the Sierra Morena of Andalucía. The trips run in both winter & summer, offering different photographic conditions & different looks to the lynx themselves. Current departures run from December 2026 to July 2028.
The Iberian Lynx is one of Europe’s rarest predators. The Sierra Morena population has recovered well from its critical lows, but sightings still require patience, fieldcraft & well-positioned hides. That’s what these trips are built around.
Winter Departures: December 2026, 2027 & 2028
The winter trips run 9–14 December 2026, 8–13 December 2027 & 6–11 December 2028. The lynx have thicker winter coats, the landscape takes on warmer tones, & the lower sun angle produces better directional light for much of the day. December is also the start of the lynx’s mating season, when the cats tend to be more active.
Summer Departures: July 2027 & 2028
The summer trips run 5–10 July 2027 & 3–8 July 2028. Summer heat concentrates lynx activity towards evening, so sessions make the most of the lower light at dusk, & the year’s kittens may be seen with their mothers.
What Is The Itinerary?
Both seasons follow the same format. Day 1 is arrival at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport & the transfer to the lodge near Andújar. Days 2–5 follow the same pattern: a morning hide session, a return to the lodge for lunch & a break, then an afternoon hide session, giving eight hide sessions of at least four hours each. Day 6 is the return transfer to Málaga.
The package covers full-board accommodation with home-cooked Spanish lunches & dinners, transfers from Málaga, & all hide access. The hides are comfortable, with bathroom facilities inside, & easily accessible, even for photographers with reduced mobility. Single occupancy is included.
About the Location
The Sierra Morena is one of the Iberian Lynx’s stronghold territories. The landscape is a mix of dense Mediterranean scrub, cork oak woodland & rolling hills — good habitat for both the lynx & their primary prey, the European rabbit. The hides are positioned in areas with established lynx activity.
