Some trips sell themselves. Yellowstone in Winter is one of them – the name alone stops photographers mid-scroll. But there’s a harder truth attached to that reputation: when a trip this iconic has a maximum of six guests & only one place left, it stops being something to consider & starts being something to decide about today.

Our Winter Wildlife of Yellowstone Photography Tour is scheduled for 23rd February to 4th March 2029, & we have a single place remaining.

Here’s what that place gets you. Nine nights in one of the most distinctive wildlife landscapes on earth, split across two distinct phases. The first three full days take you deep into the interior of Yellowstone by snow coach – a mode of access that most visitors never experience – searching for bison in the thermal basins, red foxes mousing in deep snow, coyotes crossing open meadows against snow-capped ridgelines, Trumpeter Swans, otters & bobcats. You’ll also visit Old Faithful, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone & the geyser basins; these aren’t just tick-list detours, they’re genuinely distinctive photographic environments when the thermals are steaming against frozen air in late February.

From there the tour shifts base to Gardiner, your launchpad for four days working the northern tier of the park & the Lamar Valley – widely regarded as one of the best places on the planet to watch & photograph grey wolves. In winter, the snow-covered valley floor turns wolf-spotting into something that rewards patience rather than luck, as dark shapes moving across white hillsides become visible at distances that simply don’t exist in summer vegetation. You’re also in prime territory for elk, moose, bighorn sheep, bald eagles, pine marten & stoat throughout this phase. If conditions align, a fox mousing session here produces the kind of images that define a portfolio.

The trip is guided by myself alongside Adam Brubaker of Tied to Nature – a long-time Yellowstone specialist who spends his entire year devoted to this ecosystem & has been running winter tours here for many years. The guide-to-client ratio runs no higher than 1:3, which in practice means genuinely responsive, attentive guidance rather than group herding. Single-occupancy accommodation is included throughout, full board, with all park fees covered. The trip is graded hard for physical activity – Yellowstone in winter demands proper cold-weather preparation – but the reward side of that equation is proportional.
