Wildlife Photography Hides of Hungary Photography Holiday

Bence Máté's farm in Pusztaszer hosts over 25 purpose-built hides positioned at drinking stations, nest sites & feeding areas where birds approach naturally. The hides are specifically designed for bird photography with controlled lighting conditions & clean backgrounds, allowing frame-filling images of species that would be difficult to approach elsewhere.

You can photograph European Rollers performing their tumbling display flights above the puszta, perching at nest holes & engaging in territorial interactions. Five dedicated hides are positioned specifically for capturing European Roller photography, providing multiple opportunities throughout the trip to photograph their distinctive blue plumage & acrobatic flight displays.

Species regularly photographed include European Roller, Eurasian Hoopoe, European Bee-eater, Common Kingfisher, European Ground Squirrel, Little Owl, Long-eared Owl & Eurasian Otter. A variety of egrets, herons & other species may also visit the hides throughout the trip. As with all wildlife photography, sightings can never be guaranteed.

This is a dedicated hide-based photography holiday with 6 days of photography sessions from the various hides available on Bence's family farm. Photography sessions are designed around optimal lighting conditions & wildlife activity patterns, maximising opportunities to photograph the diverse species that visit the hides.

The farm hosts over 25 different hides including four drinking station hides, five for European Roller, six for Hoopoe, two for Bee Eater, one for Kingfisher, two for Ground Squirrel, plus a tower hide, shore hide, cinema hide for otters & theatre hide. Each hide is positioned at optimal locations where birds naturally feed, drink or nest, allowing close-range photography with clean backgrounds.

The 7-photographer limit ensures everyone has sufficient space in the hides, receives personalised guidance from David Miles & enjoys a more relaxed photographic experience. The small group size allows for better positioning in the hides & more individual attention during photography sessions.

You'll stay for 6 nights at Bence's Family Farm in Pusztaszer on a full board basis with single occupancy accommodation included as standard. The farm location provides direct access to all photography hides & allows for flexible timing around optimal wildlife activity periods.

No advanced skills are required. David Miles & the local guides provide experienced guidance suitable for photographers of all levels during the hide sessions. The controlled hide environment allows photographers to focus on composition & technique with professional support available.

Bring a camera capable of bird photography, telephoto lenses suitable for close-range subjects, spare batteries & memory cards. Please ensure your camera equipment is fitted with Arca-Swiss compatible plates, as these are required for use with the tripod heads in the hides. Detailed equipment recommendations will be provided before departure.

Six hides are dedicated specifically to Hoopoe photography, positioned where these distinctive birds probe the ground with their curved bills in sun-drenched grasslands. The multiple hide locations provide varied angles & lighting conditions for photographing Hoopoes with their characteristic crested plumage & feeding behaviours.

The farm features specialist hides for photographing European Ground Squirrels standing upright at burrow entrances, a cinema hide for Eurasian Otters playing in river pools, & hides positioned for Little Owls peering from stone wall crevices. Each hide is designed to capture specific behaviours & interactions of the resident wildlife.
