About this species
The black & white ruffed lemur is one of the largest living lemurs, native to the rainforests of eastern Madagascar. It is easily recognised by its striking black & white patterned fur and prominent ruff of white fur around its face. This species is critically endangered due to habitat loss and hunting, and plays an important role as a pollinator in its ecosystem.
Tropical & subtropical moist broadleaf rainforests of eastern Madagascar, particularly in areas with tall canopy trees and abundant fruit sources.

Photography notes
Early morning hours shortly after sunrise are ideal for activity & soft light. The dry season from April to October offers clearer skies & better visibility through forest canopy.
Position yourself near fruiting trees at dawn when lemurs are most active & feeding, as this provides natural behaviour shots with good light. Use a telephoto lens of at least 300mm to capture detail without disturbing the animals, keeping a respectful distance to avoid stress. Shoot in burst mode to capture dynamic leaping & social interactions between individuals.
