Oropendolas nest in large, pendulous woven colonies – sometimes 50 or more hanging nests swaying from a single emergent tree – & the constant activity of birds flying, calling, & displaying makes their colony trees one of the most cinematically productive locations on a Costa Rica photography holiday. Use continuous autofocus for flight frames; the contrasting yellow tail is a strong AF anchor. Shoot early in the morning when light is at its best & activity is at its peak before the heat of the day slows movement at the colony.
