It is a canopy species, but at fruit feeders & productive fruiting trees it descends to eye level & becomes remarkably confiding, making it accessible even to photographers early in their wildlife career. Photography Technique & Gear An 80-400mm or 100-500mm zoom is ideal – the toucan is large enough that an 800mm prime may crop too tightly unless you want the bill filling the frame. Overcast light prevents the yellow throat blowing out against the dark body. Toucans move quickly through branches; keep continuous autofocus active. The bill is the natural focus point & gives AF systems something unambiguous to track.
