About this species
Perinet's chameleon is a small to medium-sized chameleon endemic to the eastern rainforests of Madagascar. It is characterised by its laterally compressed body, prehensile tail, & striking colour-changing ability, displaying shades of green, brown, & yellow. The species is named after the Perinet region, now known as Andasibe, where it is commonly encountered.
Tropical & subtropical moist broadleaf rainforests of eastern Madagascar, typically found in low shrubs & small trees within primary & secondary forest understorey.

Early morning hours are ideal as chameleons are often found basking on low vegetation to warm up, making them more accessible & less active. The wet season from October to April coincides with peak activity & breeding displays, offering the best photographic opportunities.
Use a macro lens to capture fine scale detail & the intricate texture of the skin up close. Approach slowly & avoid sudden movements, as chameleons are sensitive to disturbance & may change colour or retreat into dense foliage. A diffused flash or softbox can help illuminate the subject evenly in the dim understorey without harsh reflections.
